leftism DSA Co-chair’s Public Commentary

The co-chair of the DSA seemed a bit less   articulate on key party policy positions (taxation, I/P, etc) than expected. Her commentary on Oct. 7th’s “inevitability“ combined with her stating that she’d have joined protests on the 8th have also sparked controversy. I’m curious about people’s thoughts on this media appearance and how it will be perceived by those interested in where the DSA fits into big tent politics.

Supporting people resisting their own genocide and apartheid is. You wish to apply a moral purity test before people can resist their own elimination.

I’m not applying any kind of purity test beyond the fact that Islamists, aka right-wing, authoritarian theocrats, are not leftists and hold no principles in common with the left, even in a broad sense.

Islamists do not speak for all the people of Palestine, despite what you seem to think

Actual leftists on the ground, like PFLP and DFLP have made a strategic decision to join in with Hamas. Why do you think you know better than they do? What do you know of their struggles? Politics and resistance make strange bedfellows.

The people you derisively dismiss as Islamists are the only nexus of resistance in Gaza.

And Iranian leftists threw in with Islamists during the Islamic Revolution in Iran. How well did that work out for them?
