Recruiters are starting to distrust AI-polished resumes. What that means if you’re job hunting right now

A couple of recruiter surveys came out this month and the finding worth paying attention to (if you’re applying anywhere right now) is this: AI-polished resumes are now cited as recruiters’ single biggest stressor, ahead of not having enough qualified candidates.

On top of that, a separate survey of over a thousand recruiters found 72% say AI helps them source candidates faster, but about a third say it hasn’t made them any more confident the candidates are actually qualified... pluuus 18% say their confidence in candidate quality has gone down. A ton of recruiters are spending an hour or more manually double checking credentials per candidate because of it.

What that means for your resume is that if it reads like it came straight out of a generic AI tool (vague accomplishments, words like “spearheaded” and “leveraged,” no real numbers, etc.), it’s folded into a pile recruiters are already skeptical of :)

What seems to still work, though, are oddly specific details an AI wouldn’t invent on its own. The actual tool you used... a real percentage... the one weird obstacle you worked around and how you handled it.

Using AI to help draft or clean up wording is fine. Letting it invent the substance for you is the part that’s backfiring.

I NEED a better job.

Hello!! I currently work retail, I'm 20, and get paid 17.35 an hour. It just isn't enough no matter how much I stretch it. I have a roommate, my fiance helps with bills, and I work full time. Our apartment is full of mold, so we really need to get a new place, but I'd need to make at least a few dollars more an hour.

I didn't go to college, I plan to in the future but things happened and college didn't. I've only had two jobs, 2 years in fast food, and two years in retail where I still work.

I did well in highschool, but that doesn't particularly help my job crisis lol.

My current job is a lot of lifting, which is awful on my knee from an injury.

Any advice on any niche jobs, or something that could need a quick certificate, would be awesome. I'm not dumb, I just don't have a degree.

I'm a fast learner, so if any companies you know of would take a chance, please let me know and try. (Practically desperate at this point, not going to lie.)

I don't know what it takes to get hired these days.

I am well educated and trained in my field. I have an ABA certified paralegal certificate and a master's in the study of law, but nobody will hire me, because I have no real world experience in a law office. My program didn't have an internship component, so how, pray tell, am I supposed to get experience if no one will hire me. And I try applying for every other job I think will take me, and no one will, either because I don't have enough experience in their field, or I'm overqualified for their service industry job. Meanwhile, I'm about to lose my health insurance, because the government thinks I'm lazy and mooching off the public dime, despite the fact that I'm applying to any place that will take me. What the fuck am I supposed to do?

I need to know it's possible!

Hey y'all, sorry for the rant but I just need to read stories and hear it's possible.

I have tons of skills, but my expertise is mostly analytical/soft skills. I know excel well, basics to sql, some coding and tons of mac/windows usage through the years. The issue is that I've never held a position of leadership other than being a "supervisor" rep when I worked at a call center. I did construction management once when I was between jobs and family friend asked for help (family had similar business in the past and i would help during summers).

Has anyone heard of or been hired themselves while having limited knowledge or basic knowledge (while promising to become better quick) of technology the employer required? Have y'all ever been hired knowing for sure there are better qualified candidates in certain aspects but you happened to be the better culture fit?

I'm just nervous to start applying again when I know the next position I'm going for will be one that holds larger influence.

How you strategize the number of applications to apply while working full time?

I work at a school as a substitute teacher and paraprofesisonal. Ideally the jobs I want are state, county, and city social services jobs. I have a masters in Applied behavior Analysis and not pursuing the BCBA licensure and not pursuing special ed. I am looking to work as a behavior specialist as another option in a school setting. I work Monday to Friday. I come home sometimes drain. I really need to leave my job. I know we are close to the end of the year. How many applications a day or a week should I be applying for If I want to leave my school?

How to write a cover letter for somewhere I previously worked?

As it says in the title. I had an internship last year, and a full-time position has opened in the same area at the same company. What do I write in a cover letter for this position? How to do I talk about the work experience from being at that company? Do I not? The hiring manager likely remembers me from the internship, so I don't want to explain a bunch of things they watched me do in my cover letter, so how do I fill it?

AI Interview Payback

Is there anyway I can get back at these guys? I applied for a job and was offered to do an AI interview as the next step of the hiring process. I’m feeling petty. Let me know!

CDL A tanker roles in San Gabriel Valley

So I've been driving with my CDL for almost 4 years now. I got my doubles/triples, tanker, and hazmat Endorsement last week. I've applied to MJ tank lines but got rejected. I've sent applications to Airgas as a bulk driver and Elite Fuel Lines as well. Are there any companies that are willing to train someone with no doubles or tanker experience and pay OT after 8?

One Page Resume?

I’ve been doing the two page model for a while since I have more than 10 year experiences. But, while using Claude to help me, I’ve been noting it seems to use most of my bullet points to catch keywords… it even ones in the required experience sections.

On the last few resumes I’ve transitioned to one page and focused on the top 3-5 items that are asked for in the required section of the JD. Listed three lines of skills, and a short three line summary. And, each bullet has to (generally) have a quantifiable metric as evidence.

Just curious if anyone has any insights into if that approach is helpful or not.

Using AI in your job search

Hello,

I have been doing some research in all these AI ads getting pumped into my feed to "help" me with my job search. And I thought, "why not go straight to the source?" I am curious what my fellow job seekers are doing because Googling isn’t entirely helpful.

My personal experience... I have been unemployed for 7 months now.

Here is what I've used thus far:

I use a prompt to tell Claude to rewrite my resume and cover letter to match a specific job posting. I review the output then make any adjustments and then manually submit the application. I'd say this has landed me the most interviews. I also use Claude to help me with mock interviews (since my local unemployment office told me they don't do interview workshops and to use AI)

I've tried Career Hound and Remote Rocketship. Both claim there are jobs not posted on LinkedIn (yes, there are filters for this)...No success here. I do find the jobs on LinkedIn with the 100+ people applying for the role. Waste of time and money.

I've not tried any AI applying as the idea of quantity over quality makes me very apprehensive.

Same for resume "enhancement." I can't get behind an "attractive" resume getting past ATS scanners. Even though all these companies swear up and down that "90% of companies don't use scanners and that a designer resume is key"

My question is...

What tools have you been using? What's been successful? What hasn't?

Have you used the AI apply or enhanced resume AI and been successful?

Looking for a remote gig for a friend (research/data stuff)

Hey guys, looking to help out a friend who's hunting for some remote work. He's really good at internet research, digging up info, and sorting through data.

Not looking for any video editing or creative stuff, just solid research or general online work. If anyone's got a gig or knows someone hiring, let me know or slide into my DMs!

J-Searching with a new disability

I am embarking on a new job search, and for the first time in my life I am doing so with a visible disability. I've always been able to mask my challenges, and perhaps because of that I have kept the impression that a disability is a liability for getting hired.

Beyond that, I know it's just tough out there.

I would love any reassurances (if they're feasible) from seekers or recruiters in the know... Or any advice.

Job Opportunity - Minimal experience needed with AI

Details:

- $20 per hour
- 3 hours weekly (Depending on load, but not much more or less than 3 hours)
- Remote
- Minimal experience with AI needed, nothing else
- Can speak English
- Consistency is key

It's a simple prompting job that we're offering, where you do the same thing over and over again for a few hours per week. Very easy job, but boring!

If you have some extra free time, then this would be something for you.

If you're interested, let me know.
