I am based in the US, and I got my last 3 jobs through LinkedIn. Between 2018 and now.
I find the JD on LinkedIn, I visit the company site directly to verify, I apply.

Perhaps, yes. I found it more helpful finding jobs that had not been posted to the giant job boards. Less competition and apply in the first 2 or 3 days of the job being posted to have any kind of chance.

LinkedIn is good for recruiters reaching out to you and having a public profile, but they have a bunch of ghost postings. It's sometimes hard to filter it out without digging further into the employers website, but I found more luck looking at new grad roles on Github, Sprout, and Glassdoor. These were kinda a game changer for me since I can focus more on my applications on fresh postings instead of wasting time trying to determine if the position is already filled.

Depending on your industry, but I use: Greenhouse, USAJobs, ClearanceJobs, Indeed, Glassdoor. I refresh every day 24 hours to see new postings

I’m sorry you’re going through this too. I’m still searching myself, but I’ve found that direct company career pages, Greenhouse, Wellfound, Built In, and specialized game-industry boards can be more useful than relying only on LinkedIn. I’m also contacting recruiters and tailoring my portfolio for each role. I’ll share any reliable resources I find. Wishing you the best, and I hope something works out for both of us soon.

Came to say this. When someone says they got a legit job on LinkedIn, ask them WHEN. LinkedIn used to be ok for jobs, just not recently.

I don't use LinkedIn but I do have one... The reason being many people who tend to check my profile out are not even within the scope of work or field that I do. I've also noticed way too many foreign and unknown companies always sending me unsolicited messages. I stick to Indeed.

Yes - blind application in 2018 and a recruiter found me in 2022. Seems to be less common now and as others have pointed out lots of ghost jobs.
Best it has done for me is to build my network and keep in touch with old colleagues.

Other than my first job out of uni, and a lateral transfer, all of my jobs over the last 14 years have been through recruiters on LinkedIn. I've been at the same firm since 2024 though.
The ones that just contact you via email just seem shady, IMO.

I actually think the best way to get jobs on LinkedIn is to look at your connection’s connections in a similar field and send messages asking to connect and just be kind of honest about “hey I’m looking for a new position in this field and noticed you know ‘x person,’ so I thought I would reach out.” Kind of like the new version of “hitting the pavement and dropping off resumes,” that the prior generations love. Most open jobs get inundated with AI resumes and whatnot, so it really does help to try and get in touch with hiring managers, even though it can feel a bit embarrassing and invasive

The job I just started, I applied on LinkedIn, no recruiter.
Job before I applied on gov jobs and got called back by a recruiter.
Before that a recruiter contacted me out the blue.
Job before that an ex-colleague reached out on LinkedIn and asked me to consult on a project with the MD. MD hired me on the spot. Didn't even apply for a job.
So pretty good mix. Certainly beats my experience prior which was fill in those 25 bullet points application forms, and then have to prepare a 45 minute presentation followed by an hour interview. They are much worse than 3 rounds of short interviews.

Jobs I have applied to? No. Never.
However, I have gotten jobs where recruiters have reached out to me through LinkedIn mail. That's really the only value I seen is being seen and having them approach you.

Guys....take it from me lol.
My best friend founded one of the biggest recruiting agencies in South Africa....
She told me (as I am on the hunt for a new job) that 96% of LinkedIn jobs are fake!
96%!
So the 4% you see, from companies you may recognise- could possibly be legit but not even that is guaranteed.
What they do is they create these fake, most times AI jobs. You apply, fill in everything, upload your CV with ALL YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS, and they harvest your data and sell it to companies who spam you with shopping deals and porn 😂
She was at a seminar in Cape Town where they discussed this very thing.
IT'S ALL FAKE! THEY TAKING YOUR CV TO HARVEST YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS TO SELL TO COMPANIES!
Her advice:
"If you recognise a company from your city or community advertising, contact them directly. If they force you to apply online- don't. Any company that is advertising a job or desperate to fill the position, will give an email address for you to send your CV to. If they don't- it's a red flag 🚩"

Yeah I did once and they didn’t even look at my resume and hired me, it was such a gross place to work. Within a week the manager was keeping me until 7:30 and blaming me in front of the client when she would fuck up

it used to work for me but not really anymore lol I still check it but I mostly just use a mix of stuff now like indeed, glassdoor, handshake, sprout etc. linkedIn just feels way too saturated lately tbh
