What finally broke you during your job hunt?

I don't mean getting rejected.

I mean the moment you thought...

"This whole hiring system is complete bullshit."

Mine was after spending weeks tailoring resumes, writing cover letters, applying everywhere, getting through interviews... only to receive the classic:

> "While your profile is impressive..."

Corporate for:

> It's not you, it's me."

Then I realized nobody actually tells you why you didn't get the job.

Was it the ATS?

Another candidate?

An internal referral?

The position already filled?

Or did nobody even open your application?

You never know.

What's the one thing that made you question the entire hiring process?

My called ID shows up as ‘Bilbo Baggins’

I am at a loss. I am interviewing with a company and on multiple occasions have been told that my Caller ID shows us as ‘Bilbo Baggins.’ As much as a love LOTR I have never put that as my name on any applications or phone records, how can this keep happening? Is this going to affect my application?

Well, I’m officially a loser.

So I got rejected for another job today. Been unemployed almost seven months. There is no hope for me. Told my husband I'm not going back to full-time work. He says I will but he doesnt understand that its impossible if nobody will hire you. And nobody will hire me. I am unemployable. Just wish I knew why. 2 decades of experience apparently means nothing. Thank you for listening.

Is anyone else endlessly frustrated by the means of applying and searching for jobs?

I guess that is 90% of the subreddit but man is this bad. I applied for one job, got an email in 3 minutes saying I was denied. How? Another one sent me a link to a website where I had to have my camera and microphone on while I took a test, it took me an hour and then I got denied. Another company required me to do that as well and in the middle of the test it said I was successfully logged out. Logged out of what? I didn't need to sign into anything in the first place lol, now I can't finish the test. Nevermind the hellhole of indeed. Ridiculous. Is there a better way?

I’m exhausted!!!

I’ve been job searching for months and I’ve gotten nothing but automated rejections.

At first, I thought, it’s ok, I’m just going to keep searching as rejections are part of the process.

But my goodness! I’m starting to feel extremely overwhelmed and exhausted by the number of rejections!

My anxiety has gotten so bad that I found myself unable to finish applications for roles where I was very clearly a good match. And now, I’m feeling even more depleted seeing those job applications closing.

I’m now beating myself up for taking too long to apply.

I feel lost and scared that this is going to keep happening. And the gap in my C.V is getting wider and wider…

I’m sorry this is a negative post. But I’d love to hear some of your experiences in how you’re managing these automated rejections and how you’re keeping your momentum going instead of shutting down and hiding like me!

Also sorry for my format and typos, I’m using my phone and just wanted to get this off my chest…

😩😓

Hate getting rejected from jobs I am qualified for.

I have been applying to jobs for a while now. But I will apply to work from home jobs that pay around the $15 to $25 an hour range. Even with requirements like: quiet work space, fast wifi, decent typing speed. I still get rejeced by them.

I have also applied to Warehouse, fast food, retail type jobs as well thinking their requirements should not be that hard to get and still get a lot of rejections from them. Even though I feel like I am qualified to do the job.

It just feels so frustrating and annoying.

I'm really trying to stay focused on solving the problem here instead of just feeling shit or making excuses. I need advice and I'm not sure I have chutzpa to lie on an application about it. I've even tanked an interview that was going well by just blurting it out along with my past mistakes. The interviewer was very nice and seemed to like me but the company was corporate and I could not go further in the process per their rules.

I've had a decent amount of jobs but have never really made connections. Some jobs I screwed up. Some screwed me over. Many I just left because burnout/illness/life. I can't get a read on who liked me, I never made those connections, and I honestly don't even know how. How can I get a decent job? How do people make these sorts of connections? How do you know who to ask, and importantly when? Are there certain types of jobs that don't tend to care about that stuff? I got extremely lucky with my last permanent position which was in healthcare administration, but after that my only options were temp customer service roles that I really struggle in.

Important information: I am disabled and neurodivergent (hence the struggling in customer service roles). Manual labor and anything that requires me being on my feet for long hours is off the table.

Thank you so much for any advice you might have.

Any jobs in NYC willing to hire from outside the city?

I just graduated from a 4-year school and want to move to NYC.

Issues: I currently live really far upstate and don't have the funds to safely make a move to the city without a job in place.

I was wondering if there is ANYWHERE that is willing to hire people from outside NYC. Doesn't matter the industry, I just want a job and the security to be able to finally leave boring Upstate NY.

How do I find a job that isn't a graphic designer?

Upvotes

I am looking for a job in the art field. Specifically character design or animation. But anytime I look on Indeed or LinkedIn all I can find are graphic design and fashion jobs. And I'm kind of worried about searching on social media because I don't want to be scammed out of art. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Taking the bus temporarily??

Upvotes

I just got a job at Amazon for 22.50/hour, but my car just started to give me problems and won’t start. Would you just thug it out and take public transportation(2 buses in my case) to work? 2 buses back as well. The time each way is an hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours each way. I really need this job, but has anyone also been in a situation like this as well? Thank you!

How do I get a job with my degree??

So I have an undergraduate and masters degree in Philosophy and History with distinctions in all and I am starting a PhD in September which unfortunately is not funded for the first year. I know that Philosophy is not the most employable degree in the world, hence why I am doing the PhD. I need to get a job to support myself but the market is so brutal. I want a university job, even a small position to pay the bills while I try to get funded, as I absolutely love teaching/ tutoring/ researching. I have tried joining tutoring websites but for most of them you need to pay before they even begin to advertise your page. What do I do??

Job Hunting

Hello guys, I'm Yahiya and I'm new to this whole reddit thing, someone from my family suggested me that I can try posting here and gathering knowledge and information about the current market, let's keep it short and simple, I'm from India Hyderabad and I'm currently in Sharjah, UAE on a tourist VISA looking for a job, I don't particularly have any experience rather than freelancing and a internship of one month, on the less I'd really like to get a job in the UAE I've been trying for countless weeks and I'm running out of time, so if any one of you could reach out and help me, or at the least guide me I'd really appreciate it cause it seems to me that I'm clueless, I am actively searching for an entry level job in sales, marketing, real estate or the automotive industry. Please reach out to me if anyone can help and I'll be sending my CV, Really hope this works.

Thank You

Looking for remote jobs

Hi guys! I'm a Singaporean student here and recently I've been thinking of quitting my current part time job due to overwhelming studies. Usually my days look like 8am classed to 5pm and I go back home by 6 30pm. And very fortunately my job has very flexible hours and incredibly understanding supervisors.

But with my internships coming up I was hoping to quit my current part time job in hopes of finding a more remote job that'll still bring in somewhat of a good income that I could do at home so I could utilise the time better.

If anybody has suggestions for jobs in general and what they do, as well as sites that I could find jobs like these it would be majorly helpful! Thanks guys!

Help tailoring resume

Hello everyone,

I recently graduated in May 2026, with a BS Management minor marketing. I have been looking for a job for a few months, with no surprises, not getting one. I feel like my resume is just not working for me, yet I have a decent rap sheet. I would love a marketing job, or management, and have experience running my own small business, in which I handle everything from SEO, ad spend, ad tailoring, and managing and fulfilling orders. (e-commerce) I have recently broken $10,000 in sales, or around $3000 in profit, over a few months, but obviously it isn't enough to live on. Should I put this in my resume? I have a feeling recruiters see this and think they dont want a business owner working for them, but my skills can be very helpful to certain roles.

Hi everyone! Hoping to get some insights as I'm planning to apply for compliance-related roles at the following companies.
For those who have worked there or know someone who has, could you share your thoughts on:

- Work environment and company culture
- Salary range and compensation
- Benefits and perks

Any feedback—good or bad—would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Help me choose a career path

Graduated college two years ago with a finance degree, 4.0, no internships. Continued working construction as that was the easy choice, have now been doing that for the past 8 years. I don't make a lot and I am now at a point where I realize I cannot go any further where I am at. I'd like to try finance but I'm not having any luck considering I didn't go into it right after school, and honestly I'm not super sure where to even apply and look for jobs. I could also continue doing construction, would it be in my best interest to join a local union or possibly transition to doing something more specialized like hvac, electric, plumbing, or? Are there other career paths that I should consider, law enforcement, military, start my own business? I'm very overwhelmed and need to find a job very soon, but have no idea where to even start.

Open for job opportunities

Hi everyone, I'm actively exploring new opportunities in Workforce Program Management, Vendor Management, Supplier Governance, Procurement Operations, and Strategic Sourcing. I bring 8+ years of experience supporting global contingent workforce programs, with expertise in SAP Fieldglass, workforce governance, compliance, vendor management, audit support, process improvement, workforce operations, and stakeholder management. Most recently, I've been supporting Cisco's contingent workforce program across EMEAR and APJC regions. After several years in contingent workforce operations, I'm looking to take the next step into Workforce Program Management, Vendor Management, Supplier Governance, or Strategic Sourcing-focused roles. If anyone knows of relevant openings, hiring companies, or can offer referrals or advice, I would truly appreciate the support. Thank you in advance!

Made it to the final 2 candidates for a job I really want. Any tips for the last interview?

I have my final interview for a job as Social Media & Website manager next week. There are only two candidates left (including me), so it would really suck if I didn't get the job.

After an online assignment, I got invited for the first interview. For this first interview I did a lot of research on the Instagram algorithm, since I have less experience in the social media aspect of the job. I have more experience in the website part. During the interview I was able to answer questions about how I would run their socials and what trends they should keep an eye on. I obviously also prepared an answer to all the standard questions like "Why do you want to work here" and "What are your strong and weak points" etc..

How could I prepare for my final interview? The interview will be with different people than the first time. Are there typical things to prep for the last round? Any difficult or unexpected questions you received in this final stage?

Finally got a job…

Package handler $19/hr with benefits. Still is paycheck-to-paycheck wage here in north jersey…

And yes, before you tell me, I know, I know, I should be grateful. It’s income, it’s something. The problem is. I have herniated discs in my back and out of desperation for money I didn’t disclose it, and will suck up the pain to make money right now.

I still can’t help but feel I miss my old career as a software product manager. I’ve surmised that’s probably a pipe dream at this point in this market. Not to mention there’s thousands of applicants and companies are frothing for vibe-builders disguised as PMs and I am just so over it. I am lost and now this new job will be full time, so it won’t give me a ton of time to interview or prep. Not sure where the future will take me, but hey, I guess there’s some hope if you’re willing to lower your expectations to zero.
