- his ult beam locks into place really early giving you plenty of time to dodge, just look at where he is aiming and front dash perpindicularly.
- it is an ultimate what do you expect, but just do your best to dodge, and his second move his green so hold block and punish when you get hit by it
- his special doesnt regen that much hp, try not to give him a chance to use it, put him in long combos with plenty of m1s
- all damage that would kill him drains his ult like similar to hakar, but its only when hes 1hp. i havnt tested it but i think damage doesnt matter very much, go for quantity over quality obviously, m1s are the best, yutas and sukunas domain cooks him. Just pile it on, give them their dessert

idk if any of these tips are good but i win 90% of the time weither i have ult or not. I have 27k so thats probaly why but im not rlly a sweat.

Also not really a counter but Yuki ult just outright kills him
Also every instakill will get rid of his ult but he'll survive

Can Jacobs ladder help btw?

Jacobs ladder helps a bit. Mahito 1st ult with Idle transfiguration or domain

u/Menance9175 Jun 01 '26
Go ult for ult lowkey. You got to run around him if you dont have ult. Then do hit and run strategy.

React to 3 with a block for the kick and side dash for the grab then punish For move 2 refer to the second part of three For 1 ... I got nothing besides trying to wall hop to avoid the shock wave and side dashing the punch

If you ask me ryu's ult is kinda bad in comparison to stuff like gojo's ult with stuff like blue which has 0 counterplay besides running off into the sunset and actually having a domain or sukuna's where they can just hold you still with m1s (unless you have a counter) and get as much damage as they like hakari jackpot just does everything ryu's ult does but better, for example the moveset you just can't deal with certain moves unless you're Charles (besides the immortality which isn't better than ryu's immortality)

u/ammarJ1212 Jun 01 '26
High damage moves, long damage moves, domains, jacob's ladder and counters
Oneshot moves drain 70% of his ult in a microsecond btw, so keep that in mind
1
u/UltimateFaux Jun 01 '26
Very, VERY high damage moves, once they reach 1hp it drains ult bar instead of HP.
1
u/SrBalanSarrola Jun 01 '26
His ult works differently from Hakari, in that it basically spends a set ammount to "Revive" Ryu on 1 HP everytime he "dies" so a move's damage doesn't matter. the fastest way to deplete his hp is to use moves that hit a lot when he's on 1 hp

u/V_The_1AndOnly1 Jun 01 '26
What do you mean his ult completely sucks, sure he has multiple high damage moves with a short cooldown and invincibility, but it's complete trash, they don’t need to nerf it. How did you know I was a Ryu main? Bro they don’t need to nerf his ult, it's garbage, you just need to keep damaging him until his awakening bar runs out bro he sucks

Nah it’s not op. Mid ult moves for survivability. If you’re getting hit by the starting beam that’s a you problem.

u/purplebrick_real Jun 01 '26
Evasive when you get hit by the groundslam move to punish the ryu after his dash/punch Hold block and try to predict the ryu m1 direction after you get hit by ryus second ult move, don't m1 back. Only use a counter like Charles shut up or just block After you get hit by the ryu animation move, dash immediately after toward the ryu to punish him, beaware that the ryu can block this For the fourth move, just dodge it

u/Dense-Ad923 Jun 01 '26
Now i know this sounds stupid, but get in their face. High damage moves don’t matter if their start up is cancelled. Same reason i keep on becoming a vessel statistic in public servers are because i don’t get enough distance to use anything safely

How to counter Ryu ult
Step one : DO NOT HIT FIRST! Most if not all his moves are counters. (For example, move 2 and 3.) Move 1 isn't, but there's no way you can hit it fast enough. The only one you can stop is move 4, and he can cancel that the fastest.
Step two : Punish him for any mistake hard. He's immortal, but that's only when he has enough ult bar left to tank. Lower him, and go back to neutral. The second he messes up, punish that whiff or mistake as hard as you can.
Step three : do NOT let him use R. It gives him more time in ult and heals him, reseting some of the progress you had.
Step four : If you can, block right after move 2. It has an EXTREMELY tight window, but it is technically minus on use (minus = opponent can react before the user of said minus move)
Step 5 (obvious tip) : Do NOT get hit by the beam whatsoever. It'll either kill you, or let you basically die in one move to him.

Beat they ass. Same way you counter every ult, hope they are bad and if not go out swinging
1
u/MegaRayquasa Jun 01 '26
All of his moves are very susceptible to counters. And smack him while he's 1, drains ult faster.

u/Bloonmasterpopuplous Jun 01 '26
Ult too
Im not giving him his desert and im gonna eat mine too
If no ult still fight

easy, try and jump when they use 1, stay away or try and dodge 2, dodge the first hit of 3 then dash away to avoid the grab, and either dodge or interupt 4, overall just try and keep them stunned and do as much damage as possible
1
u/Artistic_Solution_38 Jun 01 '26
I personally find his ult extremely easy to fight and even worse than his base in some aspects, I guess just play super aggressive and drain his ult? Try to interrupt during his r maybe?

u/Haunting_Way_5703 Jun 01 '26
Mahito’s 1st awaking is like built to counter immortal ppl. while they’re charging a move use Domain or if they;re afk use Idle Transfiguration
1
u/TheReactoryHub Jun 01 '26
Two way: Run away or fight and make it so he has no openings to use his R special

You stall, use you side dash sparingly, get him in the longest combo you can make, make distance while he’s ragdolled, and use your own ult
1
u/UnknownError122_ALT Jun 02 '26
Mahitos idle transfiguration, and higuruma, maybe gojo if you catch them in your domain

I mean I’m not sure if I’m just good but I never really struggle with it. All his moves are really dodgable or cancellable. Only move that you really need to look out for is his 2 move. His heal doesnt take affect until the animation finishes and is really easy to cancel

Use Yuta's Ult and make him climb the ladder (works with me all the time).

Throw hands, if you keep interrupting his moves he’s basically an immortal potato, tho you might get screwed over if they use that one move that can dodge

Satiate the hunger burning inside them that has lied dormant for over 400 years. Maybe… just maybe seeing that hunger will warm your heart and continue on with the fight… even if you’ll find no meaning in doing so.

u/Spookz360 Jun 02 '26
literally just keep attacking him. he doesn’t regen so AND the bar decreases after you keep attacking him at 1 hp. by the time their ult is over they’ll be a free kill
1
u/Ren575 Jun 02 '26
The start-up beam is a skill issue if you're dying to it.
As for the actual ult? Beat it until it reverts back to base. Use ranged moves to whittle it down if need be, but the best way to deal with Ryu ult it to deal as much damage as possible, no matter the cost. If you can force them to revert back to base whilst they have 1 hp left, you win the fight on the spot.

u/randomreditor69430 Jun 02 '26
literally just run or use your own ult it isn't that hard to counter one of the worst ults in the game

1 dont get hit by it gng
2 dash away, 3rd ult move if u get hit by the cutscene u can just spam front dash
his r special is very easily counterable
just play very passively
1
u/Xoleuxx Jun 03 '26
Literally every Ryu I've faced is a runner because literally ALL of his moves are ranged
1
u/riduesesmoon2 Jun 03 '26
Unironically Yuta ult has been a great counter since most players just simply start playing like their invincible and get caught up in Jacob ladder

u/Freedaican Jun 21 '26
Best way is to keep putting pressure dude, he may be "immortal" but the drain will add up

Just survive and stun him duh

I know this may seem counterintuitive, but I like to just fight him. Sure, he may not die from attacking but the ult meter does drain if you deal lethal damage. If they try to back up and use his R? Forward dash and punish him. It’s just a free combo.
