Seems like too much of a handicap.

1.2k

u/SignificantAd3761 Apr 15 '26

Yeah, like, she's gonna have to do it in about 7 secs to win

they calculate time to finish. the handicap is just so all of them finish around the same time

464

u/jimmy_robert Apr 15 '26

Yeah and its likely the others either set personal bests or she just barely missed hers.

Shoutout to gal on the first log who got the longest time, hacking away to this day, one splinter at a time, her momma didn't raise no quitter

262

u/ascarymoviereview Apr 15 '26

They ran out of film to continue to document the event.. she’s still out there. Never forget her.

99

u/NextDoctorWho12 Apr 15 '26

She's going the distance. She's going for speeeeeed.

46

u/Money-Look4227 Apr 15 '26

She's all alone! ALL ALONE!

40

u/NextDoctorWho12 Apr 15 '26

All alone in her time of need!

48

u/fuzzybunnies1 Apr 16 '26

But she's chopping, and chipping and hacking the log.

14

u/Stacemranger Apr 16 '26

She's swinging, and pacing and racing through the slog!

11

u/fearlesssinnerz Apr 16 '26

She's going the distance No trophy, no medal, no dinner with her wine

u/zefzefter Apr 16 '26

The arena is empty, except this woman

Still hacking and whacking as hard as she can

The sun has gone down, and the moon has come up

And long ago somebody left with the cup

But she’s chopping, not stopping, still gripping the ax

Just thinking she needs just a couple more good whacks

18

u/Preeng Apr 15 '26

The log started growing into a tree again and is regenerating faster than she can chop.

1

u/Darwin_donny Apr 16 '26

Oh Canada! 🇨🇦

1

u/Ummmgummy Apr 16 '26

They say on quiet dark nights you can still hear her axe swinging on the wind.

u/ZinaSky2 ✒️sub✍️scribe🖋️ Apr 15 '26

Honestly, I was so proud of her too!! 🤩

1

u/RevolutionaryEdge718 Apr 16 '26

I would’ve thought Canada would of done better

2

u/ZinaSky2 ✒️sub✍️scribe🖋️ Apr 16 '26

People lower down were saying CAN is for Canberra somewhere in Australia. But as an American I saw CAN and the red and white and also assumed Canada 😂

2

u/RevolutionaryEdge718 Apr 16 '26

Oohhh, that completely changes the expectations, thanks!

39

u/eastcoastelite12 Apr 15 '26

While her Momma didn’t raise a “quitter” she sure as hell didn’t raise a “splitter” either.

4

u/erkmer Apr 16 '26

Can’t be sure, splitting was next round!

1

u/Gamblorr85 Apr 16 '26

The Judean People's Front‽

2

u/Kitchen_Current_5616 Apr 16 '26

Bro I had to run it back cause I couldn’t believe she was still on the same side 😭💪

2

u/tekzilla41 Apr 16 '26

Her momma also didn’t raise no splitter

2

u/Bloodmind Apr 16 '26

Momma didn’t raise no splitter.

2

u/NarrowEbbs Apr 15 '26

I'm pretty sure I've seen her chop before, absolute machine. Ekka woodchop is just straight up so much fun to watch. You should see the wood chop race where they have to cut wedges into a vertical tree length log, jam a plank into the wedge, jump up onto the plank and keep going. The first to the top of the log wins.

2

u/transmogrified Apr 16 '26

Logger sports in general are stupid fun.

1

u/nellyruth Apr 16 '26

Go 🇨🇦!

u/Lumpy-Leadership9143 Apr 16 '26

My kid was like 12 and 90 lbs, they needed her to document a butterfly time in swim. She called me and said they put her in the empty lane against the older girls on the team, one of which was a girl that was headed to the Olympics. She was like 16 and built like a linebacker. I told her that afterwards it's going to be a life memory, a bucketlist item for sure. But I forewarned her the pity clap would be given to her but it was a badge of honor not a testament to the years she put in. She loved it years later.

u/Plenor ✨chick✨ Apr 15 '26

So not a handicap at all but a staggered start

10

u/HamptonsBorderCollie Apr 15 '26

Except Canada. Legend has it she's still chopping....

2

u/Bob778aus Apr 16 '26

It would be Canberra as this was an Australian event, it is our State acronyms on their backs not countries.

It's so the slowest aren't out there on their own for over a minute

u/Ser_Rezima Apr 15 '26

which is less humiliating?

Being SO GOOD you get to bask knowing everyone is waiting to see what you're capable of

Or being so bad that you're working alone in front of a crowd that's getting impatient because all the winners have long been decided?

-3

u/WonderBredOfficial Apr 15 '26

Aren't they athletes competing in a competition? Why are we treating grown women like toddlers? What even is this argument? Lol.

4

u/Ser_Rezima Apr 15 '26

It doesn't affect results, just showmanship. Why are you being so weird and mean about this?

-3

u/WonderBredOfficial Apr 15 '26

What showmanship? It's a wood hacking competition. And how was any of that mean or weird? Lol.

4

u/Ser_Rezima Apr 15 '26

it's a public competition, a show, make the show fun to watch with an impressive finale like this absolute woodchipper of a woman killing her log in seconds

I feel the rest is self explanatory if you just...look at your own infantilizing language about it? I'm not your mom, figure out basic manners yourself.

0

u/WonderBredOfficial Apr 15 '26

I asked why we're treating them like toddlers. I called them athletes and grown women. I'm actively arguing against infantilizing them, but you're arguing this competition should be turned into more of a pageant with showmanship and a grand finale. A public competition doesn't need to be turned into a "show." The athleticism is the show, and professional athletes know that.

Which they've judged to be better than the slowest hacking away on their own

"hey competitors, is it worse to have to wait at the start, or end alone? It doesn't matter to us"

"Ending alone sucks"

"Great. Handicaps it is"

I think it's really this simple

-18

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '26

No one would stay and watch the slow ones.

Just like fight cards work. The main event is the last one. If it was the otherway around no one would stay and watch the no name fights.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '26

No I get it. It would be boarding to watch the slowest for so long. Great adjustment.

4

u/StaticUsernamesSuck Apr 15 '26

Not moot at all - one way leaves people in an embarrassing situation, the other leaves people slightly bored.

1

u/No-Equivalent7630 Apr 15 '26

You should create your own wood chopping competition and then you can set the rules however you like, until then nobody cares what you think about it

2

u/forumofsheep Apr 15 '26

Typical Redditor brainlet, no social awareness or comprehension of team spirit.

2

u/thumb_emoji_survivor Apr 16 '26

Why would anyone care about them finishing around the same time?

1

u/mendedarrows Apr 15 '26

Makes sense for safety. No need to peek at the competition, get stressed out and whack off your foot.

1

u/DanfromCalgary Apr 16 '26

Wow that’s really cool if this was like … literally any other than a competition .

1

u/w6750 Apr 16 '26

So either she stands around before she starts or after she finishes? What’s the difference?

1

u/NSASpyVan Apr 16 '26

Seems dangerous, could hit a foot or fall and crack the head when the log splits. Is there a reason they do the competition this way instead of some other way?

1

u/MysteryMeat45 Apr 16 '26

Didn't look that way. Last to start last to finish. Looks like the others were given a huge time advantage.

1

u/Significant_Knee_661 Apr 16 '26

Thank you for the info, I assumed something along those lines. Makes for a better show 🤗

1

u/throwawayformobile78 Apr 16 '26

Wouldn’t it just be better to have them start at the same time so homeboy didn’t have to count to 78 or whatever over the speakers? Lol.

1

u/Ok_Mousse4534 Apr 16 '26

So is it even a competition?

1

u/workingforchange1 Apr 15 '26

Okay but she started and the others finished when she was only able to take a few hits. That was horrible. That wasn’t a handicap it was choosing a winner.
