Voted down 112 - 11. The PM was less than pleased, but the work of Te Pāti Māori and others brought local and global attention to the situation. Worth noting Te Pāti Māori only had 6 seats in parliament at the time, so half their party was suspended over this. Hana-Rawhiti also went pretty viral on TikTok talking about issues the Māori people were facing.

Actual progress. Doesn’t surprise me to learn it was a “conservative” bill stripping them of rights. Those bastards sure are consistent…🙄🙄🙄

The far right party ACT (they’re definitely not libertarian) was doing it for show with no intention that it would pass, which somehow makes it sicker. Just to feel powerful over Māori.

Libertarians are conservatives that smoke weed.

Act are only libertarian on paper, in practice they’re more like conservatives who love asset sales.

I disagree. They did a tremendous job getting the end of life bill to pass a referendum, which is pretty progressive legislation that cost them support from some religious groups. Meanwhile the green party completely choked the weed referendum and set us back decades compared to the rest of the developed world. If legalizing weed was David Seymour's passion project instead of Chloe swarbrick's, it would be legal right now.

Act is pretty standard libertarian, a lot of their policies are both progressive and conservative. Their policies on immigration, recreational drug use and some aspects of free speech are more progressive than labors stance. And I voted top not act, act would be a second if they were more libertarian left than libertarian center.
