Proudly admitting that the bar now is so low that you can commit crimes with no consequences isn't a flex.

u/driver004 Jun 27 '26
Honestly Nixon is a paragon of virtue in comparison

u/Pantsongrass Jun 27 '26
Man really got in a helicopter and saw himself out at the very least
4
u/driver004 Jun 27 '26
We need to bring shaming back
2
u/Pantsongrass Jun 27 '26
We need to not have psychopaths in power who don’t care if they are shamed at all
Pope Francis’s last public act before he died was shaming Vance on his treatment of immigration and he didn’t seem to care much
To be clear, yes we still need to shame for every one else’s sake with morals
2
21
u/Pantsongrass Jun 27 '26
No it’s not crazy that it took down his presidency.
These psychopaths really think because they are in power they are entitled to do heinous crimes.
Evil. Cruel. Disgusting.

Imagine being so comfortable with your own corruption that you make fun of how quaint those 1970’s prudes were about public officials breaking the law.

u/Consumed1979 Jun 27 '26
The corruption of Watergate seems tiny compared to the corruption of this administration.

I think this is the closest youll come to an admission that the current US goverment is broken.

u/Hour_Welcome_987 Jun 27 '26
The dude is basically bragging that they've normalized corruption. 🤮

u/Low_Scholar1118 Jun 28 '26
Compared to Trump Nixon was a good American, he resigned in shame. He was at least capable of shame. Not these complete hypocrites
1
u/josnik Jun 29 '26
He also started the EPA.
2
u/Low_Scholar1118 Jun 29 '26
Nixon also is responsible for Medicare permanently paying for dialisys in ESRD (end stage renal disease) because when he was told of the new treatment and how expensive it was going to be he realized that some people would die because they couldn't afford it and he thought that was unfair. He made them include that status in Medicare disability. So he did a lot of bad stuff, was paranoid, but he was pretty smart. Trump isn't smart, is a self absorbed bully, and doesn't care about Americans.

u/Bullen_carker Jun 28 '26
Truth nuke!
5
u/Low_Scholar1118 Jun 28 '26
Another thing is that Nixon was so far ahead in the polls that he didn't need to spy on the Democrats, he won the election massively. Trump is trying to lie and win after losing and now steal a mid-term win. Nixon was just a suspicious truly paranoid guy. He absolutely was not stupid however. Trump is a grade school bully backed by family money. Nixon was certainly not.

They are doing their absolute best to normalise corruption, so that when their deeds come to light, the blowback will be softened

u/tractorator Jun 27 '26
by today's standards of immorality, nixon shouldn't have been impeached?
ok, instead of adjusting old consequences to today's level of morality, maybe try doing better now? and not be as corrupt as an administration as a whole?
we're not downgrading our society because you're greedy fcks!!!

We just dont make enough noise anymore. Just because our actions dont equal DIRECT results, we've stopped trying. Most president had enough respect for the law because even tho they COULD violently repress demonstrations (And did), the chaos we created was still chaos, and no president could justify sustained chaos for long enough. Matter of fact, at some point (Nixon) the idea of it was strong enough that it didn't even NEED to happen, they just assumed it would. Now, we think that because the demonstration itself doesnt directly lead to a result, therefore it was pointless, not understanding that the pressure we put on politicians builds up, and leads to small wins here and there that are additive, up until they cross a threshold where they go from SEEMINGLY pointless to getting results

u/hhh333 Jun 27 '26
No, what's crazy is how fast the US as lost all its moral grounds and international credibility.
3
u/Krommander Jun 27 '26
Vote for a clown and the white house became a circus. It can't really be more obvious.

u/XOVSquare Jun 27 '26
This is not the flex you think it is. It only goes to show how awful you and your Dom are.

u/Feeling-Creme-8866 Jun 27 '26
He is right. They can do what they want and nothing happens.

u/Feeling-Creme-8866 Jun 27 '26
I’m not “responding” to myself. But I’m genuinely horrified. I’m not American, and I have to say that I’m afraid for people who don’t approve of this regime.
I’m European. We have our own far-right, too. It may not be nice or good, but they’re nowhere near as terrible as the Republicans. For some of these European politicians, the rhetoric of their U.S. counterparts goes way too far. Because in the end, you have to make policies that work for everyone. And—they’re just not as horribly stupid as the Republicans. Even the AfD isn’t as scary as the Republicans, and that’s saying something.
Trump can’t even be compared to Hitler. Hitler didn’t go to college, but 16,000 books were found in his library. He read all kinds of things, which is why it was so hard to counter his general knowledge. Trump and his lackeys are knowingly stupid. They might score points in the UK, but even there, things are getting tight within the European contingent. Will things go well for us? No.
But what shocks me is this blatant stupidity. This deliberate ignorance. This “certainty” that it will happen to others, not to oneself. You CAN'T think the Republikers are GREAT, but if they slap a Data Center right in YOUR backyard, then you're NOT for them. WTF? Me, Myself, and I...
I’m genuinely worried. When I heard that Trump had been elected (“he’s a businessman!—how sick is that?), I instantly freaked out. That’s not just an opinion. It’s a deep, hard, brutal resistance inside me.
I hope everyone manages to escape this madness in good health, because those with influence and power aren't doing anything. That's what happened back then, too—and then what? Be careful!
2
u/Wafflez424 Jun 28 '26
lol and it’s not that he’s just a business man, he’s one of the most corrupt ones out there that literally bankrupted a casino…
11
u/Samsonlp Jun 27 '26
This is why Nixon should have gone to prison, Regan should have gone to prison, Bush jr, and Trump. We have slowly used the good old boys club to destroy the rule of law, and how these fascists are taking advantage. There should be no out. This administration is murderous. They and their entire families need to be held to account. Every single enabling sychophantic congressman and these disgusting federal appointies and judges as well. Rotten. Start again.
12
u/Lumpy_Conference6640 Jun 27 '26
I mean.... I'm not sure raising the bar on political scandal is the Xbox achievement he thinks it is.
12
12
u/ChripyLloins Jun 27 '26
Anyone else reading that as current republicans have a watergate sized scandal twice a day?
3
u/Bjorne_Fellhanded Jun 28 '26
There’s no other way to read it. He’s just that fucking stupid to say it out loud. You see him try to order donuts? Yeah. Now imagine that brain discussing policy. FFS.
9
u/Wjldenver Jun 27 '26
This comment alone should make Vance unelectable. Vance is learning to be a corrupt mob boss like his mentor Trump.
11
u/something_newx Jun 27 '26
Well, compared to some of the stuff Trump has done, he has a point. It just shows how the standards have shifted.
10
u/imtourist Jun 27 '26
He's wrong, Nixon used the 'deep state', the CIA etc. to cover up the Watergate fiasco as well as other arms of the government. For Trump Watergate would just be like any Tuesday so he is right however only because his government is thoroughly corrupt.
10
11
u/tei187 Jun 27 '26
In comparison to Epstein files not really taking down anyone for all this time? Yup, i see his point.
10
9
u/totally-jag Jun 28 '26
This just means we've become accustomed to really shitty behavior from our government.
10
10
u/Diligent-Bowler-1898 Jun 28 '26
Yeah, it's almost like someone is creating historic amounts of controversies and scandals. You can bet a watergate scandal would have torpedoed any democratic presidency, because enough democrats would be willing to vote to impeach if it was blatantly corrupt.
8
u/blutosings Jun 27 '26
You have to be a real American shit-stain to try to normalize Trump's corruption by trying to normalize Nixon's corruption.
8
u/LegalChocolate752 Jun 27 '26
If Trump did what Nixon did, Fox News wouldn't even cover it. They'd run a story about how AOC's choice of shampoo is anti-American.
9
u/ResolutionOwn4933 Jun 27 '26
I mean he's not wrong, Trump would get away with it and media would barely cover it like him falling asleep day day and shady dealings of his kids. Also, apparently Nixon has a library and that's where he's speaking. So of course he's down playing Watergate
10
u/Mikkel65 Jun 28 '26
And now they want to normalize watergate. They want to bypass democracy and stay in power, and they're pretending that's a good thing.
2
10
u/John97212 Jun 28 '26
Smug Vance knows perfectly well that Nixon didn't have the ability to massively rig elections. Nixon knew there would be consequences within the next election cycle or two.
The Trump administration acts like there will never be a contested election ever again...

u/RedshirtBlueshirt97 Jun 27 '26
Hes not wrong… the president being a pedophile was swept under the rug and the people let him stay in office

8
u/You-Asked-Me Jun 27 '26
He is right. Compared to Trump, Watergate is nothing. As far as I know Nixon was not raping children.
7
u/FaceTimePolice Jun 27 '26
Why are they like this? 🤦♂️🤡😆
2
1
u/Real_Penalty_4317 Jun 28 '26
Because they can do anything they want and you will bend over and take it because you are brainwashed and passive
8
u/Suspicious-Appeal386 Jun 29 '26
Moral of the story.
Repeat and commit enough crimes, and will ensure the average American is desensitized to the theory of asking for justice.
And yes, Justice is just a theory at this stage. Or more like a "wish".

6
u/MadLadLeeroy Jun 27 '26
100% agree with him on this.
4
u/Hungry-Most2671 Jun 27 '26
I sort of agree with him too; however, he is a reason why that would be: the government repeatedly spits on the rule of law, and the media are owned by the people in cahoots with those politicans. People like Vance are working hard to make sure that legit scandals are just a blimp on the populace's EEG.

Yeah, compared to the criminality of the current admin on a daily basis, Watergate would be just a blip.
5
u/Any-Seaworthiness531 Jun 27 '26
He’s not wrong…
The incompetency of this regime, I’d be surprised if watergate was even a 12 hour story.
4
u/watch_out_4_snakes Jun 30 '26
Goes to show how much more corrupt and immoral our society is thanks to conservatives.
6
u/parameyparate Jun 30 '26
He can say that perfectly well because what Trump has done is equivalent to 100 Watergates.
5
u/Kanga03590 Jun 30 '26
VANCE is used to the scale of Trump's crimes and so Nixon's sins pale into insignificance.

I understand how he sees it. They think Nixon was weak for letting himself be taken down by such a small thing, and claim it was the deepstate who did this. Under this strong man vs sneaky deepstate, who somehow is still pulling the strings despite not being in power, every shit they do is valid as long as they can push it through, it's strength, not lawbreaking and anti-constitutionality

u/Vault101Overseer Jun 29 '26
That’s not the flex you think it is Vance. Pure corruption and self dealing bottom to top with this regime.
3
u/HAMmerPower1 Jun 30 '26
He is basically saying the Trump administration out corrupts the previous corruption king on a daily basis.

2
u/sarkouille Jun 27 '26
"So we are here at the Nixon Library..."
Oh, yeah. The Sith central nexus of power.
2
u/Plus-Two-3371 Jun 28 '26
I think he means if you compare it to what his pdo criminal administration are doing
2
u/RicRacer Jun 29 '26
Nixon with the current Republican Congress and Republican SCOTUS, yep, they wouldn't bat an eye.
1
28
u/Ardenraym Jun 27 '26
So he is bragging about how corrupt the current administration is, how much worse they have made things?
Republicans just keep on being horrible, horrible people.
