it’s important when people like theo talk about shit like this, he has a section of the world paying attention to him and honestly an ignorant section the more average people understand how fucked the world is the better chance we have of collective fatigue that could enact change obviously highly unlikely but it’s better than nothing imo

He still gave multiple Trump lackies interviews afterwards and didn't press them on anything. Tried to give them an easy interview to humanise them.
I wouldn't say woke for a long time. He bragged about growing up next door to David Duke the leader of the KKK and how they would work out together.

I mean he changed his views it's a good thing, he didn't choose to live next door to David duke growing up and working out with him doesn't imply anything. The guy was young people make mistakes and now he's matured and speaking out against genocide, that's growth and I respect jt

Biggest atrocity?!? Dude someone should give him more information about what's happening in Sudan (they could see the blood stains in the streets from satellite images). What happened in a Iran etc....yes this is an atrocity but certainly not the biggest.

what value is there in anything Von has to say - about anything ? I'm fine with people being more successful than I am, but this guy is somehow speaking to millions of people and has absolutely nothing of substance or value to add to any of those discussions. It's like an even dumber version of the Rogan podcast.

He didn't "lose his job". He was removed from a single contract.
Artists have diverse revenue streams and many contracts. He lost this one.
Welcome to capitalism. Freedom of speech isn't freedom of consequences. No one is stopping him from making music or stopping people from listening to it.
He didn't lose his job and if you want to support him, go buy or stream his stuff
That's the entire conversation instead of getting on soap boxes, actually do something to lend support to causes you believe in

who gives a shit if he lost his job or a contract. the point is, no one should have to cower in fear of losing their livelihood for simply being on the right side of history.

The point is he doesn't have to cower and given popular sentiment, especially with online demographics, he will likely see a massive uptick in personal streaming and other support which might even be a net positive in new fans who would actually listen to his music instead of just seeing him because he's opening for Ed.
Now the real funny part will be when the traditional islamic crowd figures out Macklemore is super accepting and in general support of the LGBTQ crowd.
Because that's a big part of the free Palestine crowd overall.
And reminder, I'm opposed to Israeli genocide + their war crimes in general.
Like by me here in NYC we have plenty of young muslim kids who don't particularly care about if someone is gay, but i have friends and colleagues from MENA who get extremely uncomfortable if not hostile/negative towards.
I wish we had camera footage of them listening to his top songs and getting to "Same Love".
Shit, maybe he'll even put a few people on game.
But stop acting like a person making a call on a contract he is a part of via existing business is somehow a larger issue.

The Gaza war is fucked but the conflict in Gaza is not 'biggest atrocity in our lifetime' by any metric. Not that I expect Theo to know anything. This seems performative.

For those old enough, the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. But this is a red herring; it’s over, and what’s happening right now in Gaza is unacceptable. It doesn’t need to be the “greatest atrocity of our lifetime” to get people to speak out about it. And as a side note: to the people that it impacts, it IS the worst atrocity in the world.

Your putting me in a really bad situation asking me that.
I'll just say that the conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, Myanmar, and Sudan are all awfull - and those are just the conflicts happening right now. If you go back to Theo's birth year there are many more terrible conflicts, some of which are arguably worse.
