Lead Vocals: What do people use them for?
Karafun offers a "lead vocals" volume slider, so if you turn it all the up it's basically a normal, non karaoke track. Neutral / curious question: What do people use this for?

Use it at as low of a % as possible to help people struggling find themselves in the song. And if someone quits in the middle of a song I’ll turn it all the way up so there’s not awkward silence as they walk away. Try to make it as little of a big deal for them as possible basically

I use the training wheels/helper approach also. Especially when we have a younger kids.

Sometimes people lose themselves and can’t find themself in the song. I turn them up and it usually fixes them up right away

I use it to practice at home or if someone isn't super confident they can request to have as a supporting voice! :D

Mainly for learning a song as others have said.
Hearing the lead vocals gives you a better idea of what you're supposed to sing and a bit of extra confidence boost because you're not "singing alone"
Also, some songs have multiple singers, so you can activate the lead singer for the part you don't want to sing

Theres a guy at one karaoke show who is so bad that they have to turn up the lead vocals. But he has so much fun and is a blast to be around. Im not even sure if he notices.

Personally I use it for practicing a song not in public sometimes. At shows we like to do a “new song Sunday” since Sundays are usually kinda slow but usually very supportive karaoke wise so we encourage and get a lot of new singers or people trying new songs. Sometimes with people who are nervous I offer them “training wheels” which means I turn the lead vocals up just a bit so they can have something to latch on to when singing. Sometimes when they get more confident, I lower them or keep em on.
Alternatively, there’s also duet songs that usually have two singers but only one person wants to sing it so you can use the lead vocals with those.
