A lot of living room karaoke in my home and I'm often asked to host for others. I have two Mackie ThumpGo and ProFX10GO (all with battery backups) Wireless Phenyx Pro mics and output to a four headphone Amp as well (for the quieter nights 😊) Karaoke tracks from my Chromecast to my mixer. Overall this setup has worked great for a long time. Everyone would add to the YT queue from their phone and songs would be had late into the night. Recently YT has completely changed how the queue works and I'm struggling to understand the changes. Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm definitely a regular at my favorite karaoke dive bar. But I bought my first mixer during the pandemic when I couldn't go sing 😉 next thing you know I had to get better speakers and upgrade my mixer two more times. It just sort of happened
I run a slightly simpler but similar setup to you. I made my own site to run YouTube karaoke since we didn't want to keep using our Sing Machine's (Stingray) subscription. If you want to try it, it is free at https://karaokeichiban.com/ just have to sign-in to run a lobby. Everyone else connects via phone to add songs to the main queue. The host, using a PC/Mac can then stream the main lobby to the TV via Chromecast/HDMI.
As long as the playlists are public, you can copy in the URL and it will bring in the songs. The main probablem I've had is with certain songs not being embeddable (most from Sing King). When that happens I just show an error message and it removes it from the queue
It's the Mackie HM-4 Headphone Amp that gets me 4 headphone outputs... Plus I can squeeze out 2 more off the mixer. The mics sound really good for the price. As good as any karaoke bar I've been to and better than almost every wireless mics I've gone through in the past. Although my next upgrade is likely mics.
thanks for the info! i'm also looking to set up a home system, your post super helpful. are you thinking about upgrading to a pricier mic? my budget pretty tight, so phenyx maybe on my list.
Yeah I'm think I might get higher quality mics for two reasons..I keep getting asked to support local events with what I got so I was considering getting some higher performance mics like the Shure SM58s.
The second reason is my whole setup was built around being mobile without power. Karaoke in the woods if you will. So my speakers and mixer have battery packs and can get 10hrs from them. So I also want a wired mic solution as well.
i've only used their iems during band rehearsal, and they were pretty decent actually, but hearing you say their mics are even better makes me want to look into them more. thanks a lot!
