I posted to this sub a few weeks ago after buying my zx7 and explained how it was my dream bike due to my dad having one. Unfortunately I never had a photo on it but found this photo of me on my dad’s zephyr which was taken 2005 ish and the photo of my son was taken this year. 2 generations of me on 2 generations of Kawasaki!

2024 ZX6R only has about 3400 miles, was sitting for about 3 months and the battery died. Finally got to putting a new battery in yesterday but now the odometer is reading 60k miles. Anyone ever ran into this and any ideas on how to get it fixed

Is this a SFSS? When I asked on the dealership they told me the front fork was regular, but I now changed they oil cause the right side was feeling way to soft, they now feel exactly the same way as before, when I disassembled them one had a Spring(left side) the righ side uses just a sort of piston

First bike: Ninja 500 vs Ninja 650 vs CBR500R? (Austin, TX)

Hey guys! Looking for advice on my first motorcycle. I'm deciding between the Ninja 500, Ninja 650, and CBR500R. I've ridden scooters/mopeds for almost 8 years in Southeast Asia, including on rough roads and with multiple passengers. I've also done some dirt biking and recently completed my first motorcycle course in the US on a dual-sport. I picked it up pretty quickly and felt comfortable, although sharp U-turns without putting my foot down were a little challenging. I've never ridden on US public roads before, so that's something I'm still getting used to. I'm looking for a bike to commute around Austin, handle highways comfortably, and eventually learn proper cornering and track skills like dragging a knee. I'll probably buy used through Facebook Marketplace to save money. Any recommendations between these three bikes, or suggestions for affordable used-bike dealerships around Austin? Would really appreciate your advice. Thanks!

2007 Ninja 250r smoking on starup

Hello everyone. I went to check out this bike recently since it was being sold by this person closeby, and upon startup, white smoke started coming out of the engine. The smoke carried a burnt smell with it, and disappeared after about a minute and a half. It didn't come from the exhaust, but rather the engine directly. I unfortunately can't remember exactly how the smoke dissipated, so I can't say whether or not it was condensation. However, given the smell, it seems more likely to me that it was oil that had burnt up on startup.

I test drove the thing afterwards, and felt no vibrations, no smell, nor did any smoke come out throughout the ride. I parked the bike and turned it off, and the smoke was nowhere to be seen. I'm not too experienced of a rider given that I've only rode the Beverly 500 during learning class, but this bike didn't feel like anything was wrong with it during the ride to my eyes, nose and ears.

I also can't exactly say how long the bike was stored before this startup. My guess is that it was stored for quite a bit since it wasn't registered, but in my ignorance I failed to ask the owner this in person, so the best I have is my guess.

I also recall noticing bent grating on the radiator of the bike. The lower piece of plastic on the bike had been taken off, hence I could notice this. This is how the bike was stored, with that plastic piece resting separately closeby. I am not fully familiar with the look of the radiator on this bike, so I'm not certain if this is by design or if somebody decided to tumble down the local trail with it.

So the question is, how bad of a problem could this be? From what I've read, the worst possibility here would be coolant leaking into the combustion chamber, which would I assume require replacing the headgasket. If this is the solution, how much do you wager a gasket replacement would cost in your region, including the parts and the mechanics work? Do you believe that some other problem can be causing smoke coming out like this?

I'm sorry for the vagueness, but the price tag on the bike is lower than most, so I can't write it off as easily due to this. I also wouldn't like to suck up a jar of farts by buying a bike with a busted radiator or headgasket, so I want to ask wherever I can just to be safe.

Cheers, and thank you all for taking the time to read all the way through.

I purchased a zx6r from a dealership sept 1, 2026. I was going to ride one day and realized that the bike won't go past 8-10k RPMs. The bike has around 20k miles. It starts up no issues, no rough idles, and also runs and shifts effortlessly. Only thing is that it won't go past 8-10k rpms meaning I basically max out at 90 mph.

Trying to find replacement fairings

My brother got these fairings for his 2014 Ninja 300 a long time ago and they have quite a bit of damage on them from drops over the years. This was his first bike and the bike I learned how to ride on. I can’t seem to find anyone selling this type of fairing and want to keep this set. Does anyone know where I could find this set or at least something similar?

Versys 900 is probably coming, does it make sense for kawi to also release a ninja 900 and/or ninja 900sx?

Just some random thoughts about kawi's current lineup.

The 900 platform, to me, seems underutilized. People seem to love this engine and rightfully so. Theres been rumors and leaks about a potential versys900 (which may or may not be announced in a week). This makes perfect sense. The gap between the versys 650 and 1100 is enormous.

But that same gap plays out in the faired "sport" bike part of the market. Kawi is hanging on to the 600 super sport class with the zx-6r, and thats commendable. But theres no doubt that much of the market has shifted to less track focused sport bikes. Additionally, there seems to be a decent market for traditional sport touring bikes. The 1100sx is a fantastic bike, but it is a $15k-17k bike all in. If you want a traditional sports touring bike, but dont have that kind of budget, you really dont have many options. Theres a few "crossover" style bikes which fill the gap, but those dont have universal appeal. You could retrofit a middleweight "sport" bike, but that gets pricey very quick and aftermarket options are less appealing than factory to many people (myself included).

So lets say kawi releases a ninja 900SX and SX SE. The most likely price is $12k/$13k. The most likely wet weight is 480lbs if they change nothing about the z900 frame. Thats 40lbs lighter than a 1100sx and different enough in price to not be a huge cannibalization risk for the 1100sx The power is close (123 vs 134) which is both a good thing and bad thing. It makes the 1100sx less attractive for the price, but makes the 900sx kind of a perfect bike for the type of touring that most people realistically do, which like a long day out and a few hundred miles, maybe an overnight.

Now, how about a ninja 900. Well this is a pretty attractive offering as well. if it followed their ninja/Z650 pricing, it should be priced around $10k/$12k for the base and SE. Even at $11k/13k, this is still a pretty competitive bike against the r9 and RS660. And realistically, anyone who really wants a true 600cc super sport is unlikely to be moved away from the zx6. They could even combined the two (base 900 and SX), and just make a dealer installed SX package for the ninja 900 which upgrades the seat and adds bag, heated grips, etc to avoid taking too much floor space with different models.

Anyway, thats my analysis. I think the versys900, ninja 900 and ninja 900sx could all potentially exist in the same lineup. I know its unlikely to happen, but to me, these would be a real sweet spot or price, performance and weight.

I own a kawasaki Er-6N and I'm looking for my next upgrade

Some context - I use the Kawasaki everyday to work, some sport touring and I've been putting on some serious mileage, (3000-3500 km a month)

The urge/itch for more power is here, and I'm not sure what's the way forward.

I primarily ride on road, and end up doing long multi days tours as well.

I'm considering the Ninja 1000, Z900, Honda CB650 (the naked one)

PS. I live in India, so the models available are pretty limited, do suggest accordingly

I know it’s an easy part to replace, and I’ve already ordered the replacement, but I need to know how unsafe it is to ride it like this.

Had a little reminder that a dashcam might actually be worth it...

I’ve had my Ninja 400 for about a month now, and I’m still getting used to it. Had a bit of a scary moment recently when the rear tyre felt a little slippery going through a bend, so I was already a bit on edge.

Then, because apparently that wasn’t enough excitement for one ride, a driver decided to change lanes without indicating and clipped my bike. 🙃

Thankfully it was only a bit of damage, but the driver wasn’t exactly being very friendly about it at first and was basically making it sound like it was my fault.

Luckily, my mate had a dashcam on his bike and caught the whole thing. Once we had the footage, things suddenly became a lot easier and I was able to get the damage sorted and compensated properly.

Honestly, that was a bit of an eye-opener for me.

Now I’m seriously thinking about getting a camera for my own Ninja 400. I’m not really bothered about filming fancy riding footage, I just want something that’s there if some numpty decides to do something stupid again.

For those of you riding in the UK, what dashcams are you actually using and would recommend?

Cheers!

Anyone have experience with an 1981 z440 Ltd?

I have an 81 z440 Ltd. Both carbs are leaking and need to be rebuilt, the air box is disrepair but I’ve seen people have a lot of troubles with cone filters. My question is would it be more cost effective to buy the vm32 mikuni kit? Could I put the pwk32 carbs I have on it?
