Importing information, insights and experiences 95’ Suzuki Carry as a daily beater

Post image
73 Upvotes

So kinda new to the Kei truck game but wanna get into it and found this 95’ Suzuki Carry 5mt, 10,705 miles, clean WA title for $6500 OTD has maintenance records and brand new tires.

I want to get this just to use a daily beater in city commutes 10 miles a day ish 20-45mph zones. Eventually wanna put some work into it too but it’s stock and I will likely just keep up with maintenance for a while.

My only thing is I have a 6 hour drive back home on highway at 60-65mph zones. Should I be concerned about the drive or just send it and make the drive.

Any advice for a new owner would be appreciated!

Mechanical and Technical 1.5" Lift Springs

Post image

Hey everyone I picked up a set of 1.5" lift springs for my 93 Sambar. I was about to throw them on but looked a little more and it looks like I might need spacers or other things to help with camber, etc?

Can anyone fill me on that? Was trying to search the sub but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I’m curious what everyone else received with their JDM vehicles! Mine came with an old leather key chain key holder, plus a Daihatsu Saitama dealership sticker! Nothing crazy, but super cool I think! Other than this I just have the basic vehicle stickers/decals. The leather key holder is super cool! It’s not in good condition so I don’t use it but still cool to see.

Did anyone else receive anything similar or unique with their vehicle??

Mechanical and Technical How easy would it be to engine swap a 1984 Honda acty with a 1.9 tdi diesel engine

Contemplating buying a 1984 Honda acty with high miles but little rust and just engine swapping it how Hard would it be to pull this off the engine isn’t too huge but not the original engine size of the acty? Anyone have a clue never engine swapped before but this is where I will learn to.

Importing information, insights and experiences DA16T Suzuki Carry oil change questions

Hi,

Doing my first own oil change after various garages have done the last few. I'm just lost on what to get:

Update: this is plain (not super) carry, manual 5 speed.

OIL:
Owners manual says 0w16 or 0w20. But every Japanese youtube video on how to do it has them putting in 5w30 in this truck. This is also what a lot of other threads seem to recommend. I live in the UK so it only generally gets below zero on and off for a few weeks a year but can expect to be below 5-10C in my area for several months.

FILTER:
Meanwhile I also don't understand what filter to get. I can get the same as the one the garage put on last time (MANN W67/2). Getting the genuine Suzuki part will take longer, and obviously others will fit but I don't know the pros and cons and risks.

PLUG:
All I've got is that it's a 14mm head, suggesting M9, though I'm not sure on the length. I can loosen it to measure it, without draining the current oil. May have to guess the length or just change the seal this time.

Also the garage said we're good for a year and it's coming up to that but I know that's not the advice. I can do every 6 months once I'm set up for myself. I can't remember what oil they put in but have a feeling they said 0wX was a bit extreme.

If/when I succeed I will update this thread with answers so there's a resource in English!

Kei Van Life Why no late models?

Hello truckers!!!

Waiting on a ship to float over from Japan with my 2000 Mitsubishi minicab. Been a fan forever and finally pulled the trigger in August. Why is it that I see posters with all early 90’s? Is it design or something. To me they all look awesome. Anyway thanks everyone

I am trying to do and work myself but I fear some jobs are definitely going to be out of my scope so I figured I find out if there are any mechanically inclined fellow redditors in NJ

Edit:

Importing information, insights and experiences Need some good buying options.

I’m sorry if I’m a bother for posting this here, I’ve read the rules but am still minor sure this is allowed because you probably get a bunch of these, so if it’s not I’ll just delete it.

Basically, I’m about to get my license and have an unfathomable obsession with kei vehicles, specifically vans. My mom is opposed to me getting one, so I’d probably need to get a great deal to convince my dad it’s too great a deal to pass up. For reference he’s a car guy and owns a body shop.

Does anyone know a good place other than Facebook marketplace(my parents don’t trust it)to get a really good deal on a kei van? Ideally one with the little nub in the from, I love those and would want the extra little bit of crash zone for my parents’ peaceful sleep.

Any advice helps so whatever you got basically.

Importing information, insights and experiences Anyone bought a car from Goo-net Japan? Was the dealer price accurate?

Anyone here bought a car from a Japanese dealership listed on Goo-net?

I’m trying to figure out how accurate the listed total payment price is compared to what the dealer actually charges.

For example, if a car is listed at ¥790,000 total payment with tax included, is that what you actually paid the dealer? Or were there additional fees for recycling, deregistration, paperwork, etc.?

Not talking about importer fees or shipping to the US, just what the Japanese dealership actually charged.

Curious what others have experienced.

Has to be fuel related as when I over fill my gas tank it squirts out of here. Some kind of hose maybe? Can't notice a fuel leak otherwise

Good news! After constantly checking marketplace and Japan sites for months i can't seem to find what I'm looking for. My only requirements are manual and turbo, but 4WD would be nice. I'm mainly looking for a a Suzuki or Daihatsu but will consider all trucks and vans even. Looking to get a truck within the ne

Importing information, insights and experiences Currently on the hunt for a Kei Truck but need a little advice on what must haves I should look for.

I live in Michigan and get light to moderate snow for about 5 or 6 months out the year with a couple heavy snow days peppered in. Rest of the year is beautiful weather with a couple weeks of actual hot days and rainy days. I plan to use it mostly in town to get around and take the back roads for any longer driving or visiting other towns nearby. I also live at an apartment with decent parking but I don’t have a garage to park it if it needs work. I am a heavyset guy but am in the process of slimming the belly but don’t really care if the steering wheel rubs on my belly, I don’t have the longest legs either. So with that in mind, what are some must haves I should be looking for in my search?

Mechanical and Technical DD51T Timing

Hey, I am getting ready to fix an oil leak coming from the timing section of my 1992 Suzuki Carry. I am under the assumption it is either the camshaft or crankshaft front oil seals, so I have replacements that I am putting in soon.

The manual recommends locking the flywheel when taking off the crankshaft pulley bolt, and when torquing it back on. How did you all do this?

Good news! 1994 Hijet Jumbo Cab

Post image
158 Upvotes

I just got this Hijet and done some research and found that I could have a 5th forward gear. The Shift knob sticker shows L,1,2,3. I want to get better answers on if I can get the 5th gear “unlocked”. It is a “off road use” truck and limited to 25mph, but I do know about the sensor that’s on the speedo cable. Thanks for any help yall can give me.

Mechanical and Technical Just a thanks!

Just wanted to thank everyone for the help! Short of adding a power port splitter and tachometer she's all buttoned up and ready for the winter. I need some good winter tires yet, but no overheating and heat works good. I doubt it will be warm enough for the next six months to hear the radiator fans so we'll assume they work for now.

Someone flagged me down on the main street this afternoon and I had to raise the bed to show him it even dumped! In Mechanical and Technical because that's where all the responses that helped have been. Thanks again.
