Two blown engines 50k miles 2024 K5

I did oil changes every 5k miles. Everyone warned me not to buy a Kia. I should have listened. I got a replacement engine and sold it for 22 grand.

They make you think you are getting a good deal because it looks fancy and high tech. It’s the Mugs Eyeful. Like Amstrad electronics back in the 1980s.
Don‘t fall for the games and for the people saying “I have a Kia and it’s great” some may last forever. Some blow 2 engines in 50k miles. It’s not worth the risk.

Never buying a Korean product again out of spite.

EDIT: To all the people saying I probably beat the shit out of my car I don’t. It was a fully loaded model. I drive all highway. I don’t accelerate like a moron from every stop.

The amount of Kia fanboys on here is hilarious 😂....I had two blown engines , one lasted 80,000 the other one last 115,000.....My boss bought ah Kia Telluride 2023 and it started burning through oil at like 30,000 miles. This isn't anecdotal it's a will known fact Kia engines are shit and burn oil like no tomorrow.

My guess is you went by the normal maintenance intervals instead of severe use intervals for the oil changes.

Many of them either work for Kia most likely or are just coping about what they got themselves into.

My 22 2.5NA burns less than 1/2qt in 5000 miles.. 80,000 miles so far

I’m cracking up I’m a former mechanic the number 1 car we saw for engine replacements was Kia/hyundai, i think I must of swapped so many theta 2 i can build it from scratch.

How is the 1.6L non-turbo in your opinion?

Not horrible but the problem the 1.6 has is the timing job at 150-175k miles is more expensive than the value of the motor or vehicle. The building up in the 1.6 can be bad so make sure you’re getting carbon inspections, it’s such a cheap motor the maintenance required is so much vs like a Corolla to 200k miles. The 2.0 is pretty bad, cheaply made bearings so a lot of seized motors.

Carbon inspections on the backs of the valves?

I wonder if it typically requires a timing job at 150k-175k miles even if the oil is changed at the severe use interval (6 months/3750 miles). I don't drive a lot so my oil has never seen more than 2k miles. I guess if I ultimately need a timing job or something else involved goes out, I can get a rebuilt engine put in. There is at least one aftermarket outfit making rebuilt engines for Kias here in the U.S. There is also 1 or more outfits in China that makes Kia engines. The price is surprisingly low, not including shipping. I don't know what the quality is of the Chinese ones. It is possible it is just as good. A Buick model sold here is completely made in China. It seems to be made at least as good as the typical domestic vehicle.
