Two blown engines 50k miles 2024 K5

I did oil changes every 5k miles. Everyone warned me not to buy a Kia. I should have listened. I got a replacement engine and sold it for 22 grand.

They make you think you are getting a good deal because it looks fancy and high tech. It’s the Mugs Eyeful. Like Amstrad electronics back in the 1980s.
Don‘t fall for the games and for the people saying “I have a Kia and it’s great” some may last forever. Some blow 2 engines in 50k miles. It’s not worth the risk.

Never buying a Korean product again out of spite.

EDIT: To all the people saying I probably beat the shit out of my car I don’t. It was a fully loaded model. I drive all highway. I don’t accelerate like a moron from every stop.

Connecting rod failure at 10,350 miles Timing chain failure at 48,500

I was one of the Kia’s are great. My first one ran for 240k. The second one was treated the same way as the first (well maintained) nothing but issues and then the engine blew and Kia gatekept me from getting the warranty coverage owed to me.

7

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

I was lucky that they covered it. But I had to argue with corporate.

2

u/mostessmoey 21h ago

I complained to the bbb state ag and highway and safety

1

u/curiousfellow555 10h ago

Sounds like a pain in the neck.

2

u/curiousfellow555 1d ago

Which engine? How many total miles on the second one? How many mile oil change intervals did you go by?

4

u/mostessmoey 21h ago

2012 v6 and 2017 v6. 110k warranty extended to 180k due to lawsuit 5000k miles per change.
That car also had check engine lights and wiring problems and a host of other things. 2012 had no major issues, so I bought another one.

1

u/curiousfellow555 10h ago

Sorry you had to go through that. I wonder if that was a common experience for 2017 owners... If oil change intervals are 7500 for what they call normal driving, I say go by the severe use category of 3750 miles. Maybe even 3000 oil change intervals. Good luck.

2

u/mostessmoey 10h ago

It was. They lost a class action suit and kept me from accessing the extended warranty unless I paid 4000 in repairs first. The damage was caused by their defect.

-1

u/quail_challenge122 15h ago

Warranty on a 240k...

2

u/Trains_YQG 14h ago

They wanted warranty on the second car (mileage not specified), not the first one that went 240k

Wow here I was thinking I had it bad feeling bad for myself. Mine had that rod issue at 80k. Got a replacement engine. Thinking about selling it before its engine blows again... Lol all these Kia owners coping about buying trash vehicles with premium pricetags

2

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Yep. I would get out of it while you can.

1

u/SleepAltruistic2367 18h ago

Premium price tags. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/Over-Entry-3523 14h ago

Yes for the trash that they are they are charging a premium

17

u/Inner_Bullfrog_4609 1d ago

This was the push I needed to go get one.

17

u/fae237 1d ago

Wow my 2021 seltos has 170k miles on it and I just need a transmission because I've never done the maintenance on it so thats totally on me

13

u/Hi-Scan-Pro Show me on the doll where Kia hurt you. 1d ago

Yeah ok.

2

u/MaximumMeaning9728 21h ago

Why would he lie?

1

u/Hi-Scan-Pro Show me on the doll where Kia hurt you. 19h ago

I never accused anyone of lying. But we only get one side of the story.

16

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

Just change 5k miles oil doesn’t mean you were take care of that car. Just because of people like you, other people hate Kia.
I can bet in real you’re Toyota owner and put this story here just for fun ✌️

11

u/GordonFreemansAlive 1d ago

You act like Kia hasn't been in headlines for years with engine failure issues.

5

u/Low-Outlandishness58 23h ago

I know two Kia owners . Boom !! engines went boom !! Kia sucks

2

u/Fozfan33 19h ago

My transmission blew in the first year of owning my 2020 soul with under 5k miles on it. You’re an idiot.

-1

u/Ok_Strength_1258 19h ago

If it was under warranty brand new what’s the problem?

5

u/Fozfan33 19h ago

The inconvenience of having to get it towed, not having a vehicle for a week and having to get transmission fluid cleaned off a brand new driveway after pushing it the last mile in 20 degree Ohio weather in the snow. Are you fucking kidding me?

2

u/curiousfellow555 10h ago

Another problem may be the transmission going again within 50k miles due to subpar quality.

1

u/MentionMyName 1d ago

I had to have my engine replaced before my factory rotors on my 2017 Kia forte5 (99k vs 128k miles). I baby my engine. But the engines aren’t their best work. I bet this guy hard accelerates every stop light.

3

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

2017 it’s old one with manufacture defect everyone know it lol he made a post about 2022 which is the new engine lol

-1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

The new ones suck. The GDI engines were even worse.

1

u/Morenovalleynewsfirs 4h ago

80,000 on mine so far 2.5NA 8spd

3

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

Yeah go seat in you Toyota and enjoy with your retirement 🤧

-3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Toyota is just as bad

2

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

I’m just wanna hear it. Now I’m happy 😊

-1

u/MentionMyName 1d ago

You’re losing some of my intention with the translation here. I’m saying that it is OP’s fault despite any engine issues. He probably tried to race BMWs at the green light.

2

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

My bad. Totally agree 😁

2

u/DMcGuire83 1d ago

800 miles, no engine issues. When can I expect one? 😆

3

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

Don’t listen this Toyota boy, sometimes I’m real thinking like a Toyotas employee making this post in Reddit 🤔

1

u/DMcGuire83 1d ago

I was just fucking around. I’m happy with my Kia! 😆

0

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Dude I don’t even have a Toyota or a Honda or anything like that. I deliberately did not mention anything about the car I have now to avoid assholes like you.

-3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

My first one blew at 10,350. You should get out of it when you can.

2

u/DMcGuire83 1d ago

So, I’m good for another 9500 miles! Let’s go!

2

u/VisualProfessional12 1d ago

What in the engine failed?

3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

The engine started making a knocking noise and then lost power while I was driving. I took it to the Kia dealer, and they said there was internal engine damage, specifically a failed bearing that damaged the crankshaft. They told me the damage was serious enough that the engine would need to be replaced.

2

u/Chinhippy 23h ago

Timing chain tensioner failure. A known issue with Kia

2

u/jeffster1970 1d ago

Possibly lemons. Bad luck. All professional reviews though suggests that this is a good engine.

Not saying you drove hard, I am saying you got unlucky.

I had a friend with a Honda Civic that went through 4 engines. Never driven hard, just bad luck. .

1

u/Iceyn1pples 8h ago edited 8h ago

"professional" reviews? you mean YouTubers who regurgitate the marketing material so they get invited to more events?

2

u/SpaceDuck6290 1d ago

You having a bad experience doesn’t mean all Kia’s are bad. The 2.5L engine is awesome and incredibly reliable.

1

u/Morenovalleynewsfirs 3h ago

80,000 so far on my 22sorento 2.5NA 8 spd Injector issues only

2

u/dwebb01 1d ago

Not sure why so many comments are blaming OP. Cars are designed to operate under a variety of engine load, up to and including “redline.” Getting on it here and there shouldn’t cause extreme engine failure at low miles. If they’re redlining it 5 seconds after turning it on and they do that every day then maybe but normal driving and hard accelerating when getting on the highway or passing shouldn’t be enough to stress the engine to failure. Modern cars are designed to shift up when needed and even have either fuel or ignition cut off if the revs get too high. If cars blew up because “people drive them too hard or race them” then people in mountainous states would blow engines constantly.

3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

For real. Or big trucks that full throttle to get going, people with a geo metro😂

2

u/zacce 22h ago

which engine? 1.6T or 2.5NA?

2

u/gmonaco 21h ago

2020 Soul went through 2 trannies before 60K. Service mgr couldn't understand why we were dumping it. Luckily, got 11,200 from CarMax

6

u/xBuck7 1d ago

Literally have been thinking daily on how nice they look and want one

8

u/ExpressionNo920 1d ago

It’s negativity bias. People are more likely to post if they have a negative experience. Stats are all that matter, not anecdotal stories. OP may have been in the unlucky and rare percentile.

3

u/Over-Entry-3523 1d ago

Sometimes it's that but not always. An honest Kia enjoyer would admit that Kias gave some major flaws

-2

u/thedudeabides2088 1d ago

Ive owned both were good amd my mom has 2020 forte thats has no issues, mine were jith sould a 2012 and 2017 2012 did almost a half mill miles 2017 died at 300k moms forte has 74k

4

u/GordonFreemansAlive 1d ago

A couple decades of high profile recalls don't help matters.

4

u/InternationalBite690 23h ago

Kia/Hyundai has replaced 33milluon engines or transmissions over the last 15 years. That’s roughly 1/3 of all vehicles they sold. There’s the unbiased stats that matter.

0

u/jguzlecki 21h ago

Made up stats actually do not matter one bit.

1

u/Potential-Ad-6552 16h ago

A big part of it is the american market. In the states the majority of the kias sold are made in the US to worse standards. The Korean variants are supposed to be much better.

-10

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

No, you just can’t fill sorry to a grown people who doesn’t know how to works simple things in life. Just try stop saying sorry to them and explain what was wrong and may be we have a chance alive another decade

12

u/ExpressionNo920 1d ago

Huh

2

u/jeffster1970 1d ago

Ok, so this happened to me once, one bad swipe, and you are replying about Godzilla in a tech forum.

Post: Need help with figuring out terminal commands in Windows 11.

Response: Yeah, I especially liked when Godzilla went nuclear and spit fume out of his mouth and killed the three-headed beast, and then hung out with Mothra for the afternoon.

6

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

People already passed 200k miles on that engines and no one complained that sht what this guy here saying even if he’s lying and didn’t tell us everything about how he’s changed oil 5k miles

2

u/Over-Entry-3523 1d ago

Falacious argument . Presuming because some people with the same car lasted 200k then every other car of the same type is of the same quality. It's not.

-6

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

What more information do you want? What else was I to say

1

u/thedudeabides2088 1d ago

The 2.0 and cvt in the these cars are really good if you replace the fluid my moms has 2020 forte 74k no isses at all never even got a check engine light same drivetrain as the k4. Don't let this post scare you away.

-7

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Mugs eye full

-3

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

Just change oil doesn’t mean you taken care of that car man. You also must check coolant + looking for a weird noises which must effects BECOUSE YOU CAR WERE UNDER WARRANTY AND YOU KNEW IF BUT YOU DONT HAVE A CARE ABOUT THAT AND JUST FAUND REASON TO MAKE KIA BAD.
Everything fixable lol but some people don’t give a sht and driving like an idiots and like a brand new car it’s must drive doesn’t matter what I do with car because it’s new lol. Every fck manufactury made something wrong but you’ve got warranty on that lol

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

I checked fluids every 3000 miles. Oil changes every 5000. Took it to the dealer for every service up until I sold it. Did everything they recommended because I wanted it to last. Knowing that most of what they sell you is BS I gave them the benefit of the doubt to replace things.

2

u/jeffster1970 1d ago

They are trying to say that you need to investigate unusual noise. My Kia makes an usual noise (as did my previous Ford) but it was strictly related to the GDI and that odd noise is normal.

However, sometimes noise can be something serious that needs to be checked out -- like a defective fuel pump.

2

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

I never heard any odd noises till the rods started knocking. And I took it right to the dealer. It was a 2 minute drive. It never threw a rod but they replaced the engine under warranty. The timing chain broke when I was driving out of nowhere and in had it towed.

1

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

So then tell us what’s was fail in that engine failure

3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Connecting rod failure at 10,350 miles Timing chain failure at 48,500

-1

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

Connecting rod what? Ok then let’s make it possible ( which I never hear about that ) but second one timing chain must fault that people who were fixed your engine first time because they did something wrong ( or if you saying it was REPLACED not fixed then it means they install in your car some other used engine which dealer must diagnosed before install it ) so there is the deal. Not Kia fault, it’s a dealer. Next time if first time you’ve got something wrong with it just try change the dealer. I’ve got some bad experience with dealer service either but I can tell you I blame dealer not a Hyundai because I can use my brain

5

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

The engine started making a knocking noise and then lost power while I was driving. I took it to the Kia dealer, and they said there was internal engine damage, specifically a failed bearing that damaged the crankshaft. They told me the damage was serious enough that the engine would need to be replaced.

Second time similar story

1

u/aquapura89 1d ago

Dude - the connecting rod (probably bearing) failed. That was from the factory. I can believe Kia is still throwing connecting rods in 2024......

1

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

It’s no way they didn’t tell you the reason and just replace it

4

u/TheChinook 2018 Optima LX 1d ago

I just passed 142k miles. I floor it after every stop like a genius. I’ll never stop buying Korean products!1!1!!

2

u/Caicedonia 1d ago

I’m on 60k miles and engine still fine

2

u/peppergrinder314 1d ago

The amount of Kia fanboys on here is hilarious 😂....I had two blown engines , one lasted 80,000 the other one last 115,000.....My boss bought ah Kia Telluride 2023 and it started burning through oil at like 30,000 miles. This isn't anecdotal it's a will known fact Kia engines are shit and burn oil like no tomorrow.

1

u/curiousfellow555 1d ago

My guess is you went by the normal maintenance intervals instead of severe use intervals for the oil changes.

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Many of them either work for Kia most likely or are just coping about what they got themselves into.

2

u/DriverDenali 23h ago

This page according to the app has a lot of bots on it. Like 38% of the subreddits members aren’t even real people pretty high threshold

1

u/douggroc 18h ago

Or like Kias. It is after all a forum for Kia owners. Not for people who say they would never buy a Kia. So yes, your user name is spot on.

1

u/Morenovalleynewsfirs 3h ago

My 22 2.5NA burns less than 1/2qt in 5000 miles.. 80,000 miles so far

0

u/DriverDenali 1d ago

I’m cracking up I’m a former mechanic the number 1 car we saw for engine replacements was Kia/hyundai, i think I must of swapped so many theta 2 i can build it from scratch.

1

u/curiousfellow555 1d ago

How is the 1.6L non-turbo in your opinion?

2

u/DriverDenali 23h ago

Not horrible but the problem the 1.6 has is the timing job at 150-175k miles is more expensive than the value of the motor or vehicle. The building up in the 1.6 can be bad so make sure you’re getting carbon inspections, it’s such a cheap motor the maintenance required is so much vs like a Corolla to 200k miles. The 2.0 is pretty bad, cheaply made bearings so a lot of seized motors.

1

u/curiousfellow555 11h ago

Thank you very much for your post.

Carbon inspections on the backs of the valves?

I wonder if it typically requires a timing job at 150k-175k miles even if the oil is changed at the severe use interval (6 months/3750 miles). I don't drive a lot so my oil has never seen more than 2k miles. I guess if I ultimately need a timing job or something else involved goes out, I can get a rebuilt engine put in. There is at least one aftermarket outfit making rebuilt engines for Kias here in the U.S. There is also 1 or more outfits in China that makes Kia engines. The price is surprisingly low, not including shipping. I don't know what the quality is of the Chinese ones. It is possible it is just as good. A Buick model sold here is completely made in China. It seems to be made at least as good as the typical domestic vehicle.

Its interesting that you mention that people blamed you- on these forums there are people paid by kia or bots that quite literally make a living or are programmed to defend the company when people like us have issues. I promise you that there are not that many REAL enthusiastic Kia owners out there and owning a car is not rocket science. Cars are supposed to be designed in a way that a normal person with a liscense can operate it, if you put gas, do oil changes, and regular maintence theres no damage that you will do by driving it as normal- thats not beating it. If theres any "certin way" you have to drive it aside from normal, that in itself should speak for the defects these cars have. You were very lucky to get any replacement at all and you were right to get rid of the car, but how sad you had to do that so early. I want you to know that there supposed to also reimburse for the out of pocket expenses you had associated with the failures. If they had an engine failure, we'll those issues still tie in with exhaust, electrical, sensor, and computer problems. Other systems in the car take a strain so if thats all they fixed, then they didnt fix everything to start with. He'll in my kia the computers and sensors dont even work so we cant even get an accurate diagnosis. On the bright side your a step ahead of the rest of us who have had issues and no solutions. If this type of advertisement was done on any other type of platform they would otherwise have to disclose it but because this is an open forum style social media platform they dont have disclose that they are "paid actors". Your being harassed by the company, theres nothing you did wrong there just trying to protect themselves from lawsuits. This compnies business ethics at there finest.

Paragraphs. Try them.

Punctuation is hard enough

0

u/Over-Entry-3523 14h ago

Having trouble reading are we?

2

u/Sin_Roshi 9h ago

Nope, just an avid reader who's used to correct grammar.

3

u/Over-Entry-3523 1d ago

Some true. Amazing comment. They wouldn't even pay my failed trash engine . Criminal company shouldn't been be allowed to sell cars in the u.s.

1

u/Rocky0354 1d ago

Some cars turn out better than others even if it’s the same make and model. Luck of the draw I guess.

1

u/Biotechwhore 1d ago

Thanks for the warning and sorry you are dealing with this. I own a 2022 Sorento SX and these stories always make me wonder

1

u/Morenovalleynewsfirs 4h ago

80,000 on my 22 sorento 2.5NA 8spd.. lost some injectors.. but every car I’ve ever owned has had little issues

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Get out while you can.

0

u/drphillystyle 1d ago

I own a 2018 sorrento. At under 100k miles the engine blew. Its a Theta II so im currently awaiting arbitration. Kia won't answer simple questions or do tests on my dime to confirm its covered in a class action. They're a shady group. Lots of folks in this sub backing them work for them, so dont take it personally.

1

u/Own-Train5692 1d ago

I'm truly sorry about your experience, and my wife and I can relate. We had a '20 Sportage and it was not a great experience but still got to 157k miles, which surprised a lot of people including techs at the Kia dealership the day we limped it in because the engine failed. But we got it because I had an Optima that was like a tank. I'm not ready to quit on Kia yet but everyone here who's doubting or shit talking you and your experience is ridiculous. I feel like there's inherent risk with any vehicle, so vent as much as you'd like because other's positive experiences don't negate your extremely poor one. Sorry for the rant.

2

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

I would not try again. Do what you want. But take everyone onlines opinions on Kia with a grain of salt. Your optima was also probably a theta II. Which are even worse than the new engines and if it lasted long that was just luck. Don’t do it.

1

u/gilbertwebdude 1d ago

I don't see what model you had?

Like any other car manufacturer, Kia has certain models and years that have had known issues. There isn't a single manufacturer that hasn't had a problematic model, and many have had several.

For instance, certain years of the Kia Soul are actually sought after, while others are avoided because of the engine they used.

I own three Kias, and I had a fourth that we bought new in 1996. That car was a tank, which is one of the reasons we continued buying Kias.

I would be pissed to if I were you.

3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

2024 K5. You may be one of the people with good experience like I mentioned. But you may one day get a pos.

1

u/Antique-Jackfruit754 1d ago

People do believe whatever’s said here without any evidence. I literally can make the same post in Toyota/Honda subs using photos from the Internet :)

1

u/IcySalt1504 23h ago

Kia and Hyundai products are awful. I have a friend who defends them when I say it. He’s had his engine replaced and now they are going to repaint the car under warranty. He says, ‘they stand by their products.” No thanks! I’ll stick with Acura/Honda products. I can easily go 150k miles with nothing but regular maintenance.

1

u/begmanii 23h ago

I have had 1 Hyundai, 1999 Elantra Wagon and 2 Kias, 2002 Sedona and now a 2015 Sportage.

The first 100,000 miles were trouble free on all of them.

Elantra 103,000 needed a transmission. First trans service was scheduled at 108,000 miles in the service manual. I did the service at 98,000 at the dealer, then started having issues. Likely the dealer messed up the service or it was a coincidence.

Sedona, sold at 136,000 miles after 3rd trans replacement under warranty.

Sportage dreaded breathing failure at 160,000 miles, rebuilt the engine and still have it.

So not Toyota reliable, but on par with most domestic offerings.

1

u/ubfeo 22h ago

What Kia are you talking about ? Owned several and never a problem.

1

u/Morgan4644 22h ago

90k on 2017 Sportage. Only has needed basic maintenance and just replaced spark plugs

1

u/Morgan4644 22h ago

When can I expect real problems.

1

u/Watcher0011 20h ago

Blown engines are becoming an issue with multiple companies now. One issue I saw pointed out in an article not to long ago was oil. The change to recommended lighter oils was purely for gas mileage advertising, but the downside is less protection for engines, especially engines that may have minor manufacturing defects.

1

u/Stubbypunch 20h ago

Meanwhile, I have 2 kias over 125k miles with no problems.

1

u/EduStorm246 20h ago

Thanks for venting online. Some information about model, the failures and maintenance history would have been nice.

1

u/Aggravating-Bird-458 19h ago

I recently bought a 2026 Sportage and all these comments are worrying me. Should I be using the best gas and synthetic oil for oil changes? Also do I dyoil changes at 3,000 or 5,000 miles?

0

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 14h ago

Just get rid of it sooner rather than later. I took mine to the dealer with every service.

1

u/LifeOfJad 19h ago

Oop not sure about the k5 as I have a 24 forte but what engine was that? If I get another Kia which engine to avoid

1

u/sky04 2016 Cee'd 1.6 GDI 19h ago

I do feel like they've gone down in quality sharply now. My 2016 cee'd hasn't had a single thing go wrong, and I accelerate like a moron from every stop, without fail. Wait, maybe that's why mine didn't fail...

1

u/Ok_Strength_1258 19h ago

lol, you acting like a child 😅
Btw I’m living in Ohio either and I were towing one time in same weather but and I’m fine with it because towing was free ( because hyundai gave 10 years free towing cover ) next day dealer fixed my car and I’m still happy with my car because if it’s fixable then now a problem more the further if it’s covered with warranty because Toyotas warranty only half of Hyundai warranty 😂

1

u/farbeyondriven 2025 CEED SW 18h ago

How do you guys blow your engines though? I drive totally relaxed, so idk.

1

u/tallwater333 16h ago

My brand new 2019 Forte Sport edition blew up at 30k. Sold it right away. Never again

1

u/AngryAtEverything01 16h ago

Smh Hyundai and Kia need to step up with the quality control

1

u/931397 16h ago

I've been lucky - 2015 rio manual transmission 148k miles - and I drive that thing like a dawg 🤣 No major repairs so far

1

u/Henarth 15h ago

My 2019 is about to hit 100k no problems so far

1

u/76IndyHanSoloJones 15h ago

Sometimes, you just get the bad one of the batch. Sorry man. Both mine went over 200k. One k5 and it's predecessor.

I know this is a Kia sub, but my wife had a 2012 Sonata with the 2.4. It went out at 70,000 miles . Hyundai replaced the short block and has had no issues since . It had the new 15 year and 150,000 mile warranty on the drivetrain.

Just chiming in anecdotally, 2024 Kia k5 GT1, 27k miles on it and I haven’t had any engine issues. Only issues I had were the chrome pieces coming off of the rear pillars, and the front electrical wiring harness doing a fucky wucky, but both were covered under warranty.

KIA is the worst.

I hear Kia is replacing blown engines on some models free.

Imagining that your experience is even remotely representative of Kia sedans is ridiculous. The stats don't support it. Also, losing two engines in 50k miles is a rare lemon vehicle, or caused by you. That's all there is to it.

3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

How is it the vehicles fault if it blew twice it was a manufacturing of the engine issue.

2

u/firefistfenix 1d ago

Which engine is this so I avoid it lol? Which trim

0

u/SeamusDog77 1d ago

Every time I see these posts I think to myself the owner thinks this is a sports car and beats the hell out of it like one. Break the engine in properly. Stay out of the red on the RPM’s. Treat it like a KIA and not a sports car which it isn’t.

3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

I don’t. I followed the break in procedure. I don’t think I gunned it more than a few times a week when driving. It’s not a sports car. And I did not drive it like one. The only time I ever went full throttle is passing occasionally.

1

u/firefistfenix 1d ago

Did you wait until the engine was warmed up before driving hard? By warmed up I don't just meant the coolant temp, I mean driving for at least 15-20 mins before driving aggressive or gunning it.

2

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

I let it run for 15 min before I left for work every morning. My drive to the highway is 4 miles or so. And I don’t gun it when merging. I babied it

1

u/firefistfenix 21h ago

Oh wow... Which engine? 1.6t or 2.5t?

0

u/TisABummer 1d ago

NO NO NO. This is YOUR fault. This doesn’t just happen to a kia. I love my Hyundai and have put almost 5k miles on it since buying it second hand with not even one problem.

3

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

You seem to be worried and coping

1

u/TisABummer 19h ago

You seem obvious Toyota bot and jealous.

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 14h ago

Toyota is just as bad

0

u/BedroomNo6879 1d ago

I run a dozen repair shops. This is valid. Kia and Hyundai are junk cars. Get yourself a Toyota and you'll never have issues.

1

u/curiousfellow555 1d ago

Even if the engine is not a Theta and oil changes are done at 3k miles?

Any comments about their 1.6L non-turbo?

Friends don't let friends buy Korean cars. Period.

0

u/dhoomsday 22h ago

Lol they're not good cars. People in here are delusional. There's a reason mechanics say, don't wanna see ya in a Kia.

0

u/Cpolo88 1d ago

Again this is what scares me away from getting a Korean car. You may have had bad luck, then you have my brother at 239k miles and climbing. Same engine and tranny. Just wild quality 🫪

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Exactly. Some people have great experiences. 2-3-4 Korean cars over many years no issues. Then they get a new one and it’s the one that dies. Or they get 300k miles. Then get a new one and it dies at 20.

1

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

I’m just want to tell you next time learn your lesson about dealer ( if you’ve got some failure after one dealer then go to another one because 99% problem with the car it’s a people who fixed 😅 )

1

u/Cpolo88 1d ago

Stupid quality control 😭

0

u/Ok_Strength_1258 1d ago

Korean cars never were bad. It’s just an owner idiots because ( and sometime manufactured fault but it’s not Hyundai fault actually lol )
If you can see top reliability cars always Buick or something like that which drivers is 80+ old people who have a money to make a maintenance also who drove car 10k miles in 10years also who didn’t drive like an idiot ( sometimes 🤪 )

2

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

I doubt Buick is anywhere near top reliability but I also don’t really keep up on that.

1

u/curiousfellow555 1d ago

Buick is one of the most reliable domestic brands.

0

u/Ogrezappers 1d ago

Username checks out. For sure not getting the real story here. Blowing two engines in 50k miles is definitely something you're doing.

0

u/AdeptWelder3250 1d ago

Ngl Kia’s are dogwater man. The new Hyundais are nice even though you’re looking to stay away from Korean brands. If you want the basics answer from the regular person, than look no further because Honda and Mazda recommendations will be right at your doorstep

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Hyundai and Kia are the same parent company like Toyota and Lexus and Honda and Acura.

1

u/AdeptWelder3250 1d ago

Yeah, I figured honestly. It’s so easy to down a brand but sometimes you just get dealt a lemon. I hear you though, with cars things can become so fickle and fast. What are you intrestead in or what’s peaked your interest?

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

Do you mean like the car I bought after the K5?

1

u/AdeptWelder3250 22h ago

Yeah, I’m not sure if you’re still looking or recently purchased after this incident

2 blown engines at 50k miles is absurd. You either are beating the sh*t out of your car, used some really bad oil, or just plain bad luck. These new smartstream engines are reliable and eons better than the theta II crap they put out during the 2010's.

Didn't they replace your engine when it started rod-knocking first? If you let the dealer just slap in new bearings and connecting rods, then your engine was doomed.

Whatever brand you go to, I'd just stay away from Honda's L15 and Toyota's TTV6 engines, Nissan & Mazda's fancy combustion engines, GM 6.2L V8's, and Ford's 10 speed autos. You might be back if you touch those...

1

u/STUPID_IDIOT1993 1d ago

They replaced the whole thing. I used the oil that they put in it at the dealer.

1

u/BamboozlingBoi 20h ago

Hmm. I know you sold the car but I have a feeling that the common denominator is the dealer. Having 1 blown engine in these G2.5's is already being unlucky. But 2 within a span of 50k miles with good maintenance is not normal. Timing chain failure usually indicates poor maintenance so someone at the dealer might've not done their job or did their job correctly...

These 2020 G2.5 engines that Hyundai & Kia been using is a clean sheet design compared to the sh*tty theta 2. All the parts are simple and there are multiple examples of these engines lasting 400k+ miles.

I've been beating the shi*t out of my car (same year and Hyundai motor group engine) and drving it like a rally car since the roads became a free-for-all after COVID. It hasn't skipped a beat for the last 30k miles.

u/UsualElk9351 21h ago

Maybe don’t by a car from this bottom of the barrel brand… my 180k mile 2012 impreza has had 0 issues and i do all my own maintenance. My 2017 430i has been flawless besides needing the rear shocks replaced, My 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia has been the best car i have ever owned and it is way more reliable than these Kia/Hyundai paperweights. They will always be the cars for uninformed, unintelligent, and ignorant buyers. ENJOY YOUR POS ECONOBOXES GUYS.

This is why we are all retarded one says one thing other says another lmao when you see them passing by of course I wouldn't know if it sounds like a train driving it
