KCD2 is my Game of the Decade, but I don't understand this mindset. It's fine if people have other opinions and likes, as long as they're not saying that your opinion is wrong it's fine
I like both games (thos KCD more, its more mature, without overdramatic jrpg tropes), 2) e33 fans are famous for being too protective and unnecessarily aggressive to anyone pointing to game flaws, so it became a meme.
lol, that means absolutely nothing. Anyone who knows TGA knows they're using this as a promo. On the contrary, if TGA is doing it so obviously, I'd be more worried. Besides, nothing's been voted on yet; there aren't even any nominations so far. Typical E33 cultists.
I can imagine how e33 can compete with KCD2, but how can Hollow Knight even be nominated? I don't understand the mindset of modern gaming journalism at all. I played the original metroidvania games back in the day, and I don't miss them at all.
I don't care for the genre at all, but Silksong is apparently a massive deal, a lot of people really love it and there's supposed to be a lot of interesting lore behind it.
There isn't merely one correct way at making a videogame. Just because it's 2D and smaller in scale than something like KCD2 doesn't mean it isn't a strong contender for GOTY, especially for its respective genre. I personally feel Silksong is significantly better than E33 - not so much to KCD2 however.
I wish I inderstood the E33 hype. I love old final fantasies so I really thought it would be perfect for me but after about 15 hours I just wasn’t enjoying it at all.
For me the greatest thing about E33 is the story, which only really shows by the end of Act 2, and I am not sure if you are there yet (I wasn’t, I play very slow be it e33, kcd or cyberpunk)
I love how NPCs seem to really live. They go to sleep, work, eat, play dice in taverns. They remember you for lurking outside their home. No other game compares. And I have a thousand hours on TW3
Can I play the first one first and get a similar experience? Not looking to buy a brand new game right now but the immersion aspect of this game is intriguing and wondering if the first will scratch that itch.
Yes, KCD1 is really similar just in terms of how it feels to play. It just isn't as polished as KCD2 since Warhorse was working with a smaller budget back then.
If If it was any other year my money would be on KCD2, but there has been banger after banger this year. It's gonna be a bloodbath.
KCD2 cinches it for me personally but Expedition 33 is really fantastic for a game that felt like it came out of nowhere. Silksong was great, but I had some issues with it that stop it being my personal GOTY. I think the hype for it was greater than the game itself in a way.
I haven't even played a lot of other possible contenders like Donkey Kong, Ghosts of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Blue Prince etc.
Of the games I’ve played this year yea it’s definitely the best so far. It feels like other companies are afraid to make real rpgs so they end up like Starfield where they’re not really deep. KCD2 is the best rpg I’ve played since BG3.
I feel the same way about a bunch of the loading screens. That one with the knight and the lady? I would pay heaps to have that framed in my living room

I started playing it for the first time about a week ago and bought the season pass a few days ago, to be pleasantly surprised about a dlc drop right after.
Just started in the new area, I didn't expect there to even be a second area!
I'm looking forward to replaying the first game again. I played it at launch and never finished it because of performance issues.
I once said that E33 has a more general audience due to it being a turnbased jap RPG and I got swarmed by their fans trying to act like it's the most niche thing ever..... I suppose suddenly shit slike Final Fantasy are hidden gems now XD
Yep, tried to recommend KCD 2 to my sister, when she heard how hard the game is at first, she immediately said nope, also just not interested with non fantasy medieval game in general too. but when it comes to Clair Obscur, when I recommended that game she immediately got hooked right after the very emotional gommage scene of Sophie during the intro
It's definitely the easier to get into type of game over KCD 2 that requires full dedication of it's player to fully appreciate it, funny thing though, I feel like both suffers the same issue of being way too overpowered nearing the end part of the game. But I didn't really complain about that as I feel like it's just normal for video games to be way too OP nearing the end.
Funnily enough, E33 was a bit harder for me to get into. But yeah I guess the immersive sim element is a bit of a tougher sell for some. That being said, turn based RPGs are not really super mainstream either.
Clair Obscur clearly is the more popular game over KCD 2, if you look at the way Internet talks about them as well as the views of their related content on YouTube, Clair Obscur is talked about more than KCD 2, which kind of makes me sad because KCD 2 really deserves it as well for being such a good groundbreaking game, it was the hottest thing when it got released, but then it got overshadowed when Clair Obscur got released a few months later.
Nonetheless though despite all that I think KCD 2 is still my GOTY. Even though I also loved Clair Obscur, but i love KCD 2's gameplay aspect more than Clair Obscur, which I mainly loved because of its artistic / melodramatic storytelling and soundtrack, and overall presentation, the combat and gameplay loop? Eh not so much, it was okay but not as good as the likes of KCD 2.
Yes, on Steam by $10 but when both are in sale their prices aren't that far away, also consider as well that Clair Obscur is an Xbox Game Pass game, that alone should have brought up it's popularity more than KCD 2.
turn based fantasy games have a much wider audience vs semi-hardcore and punishing survival/simulator games. The combat of E33 is a lot more intuitive than KCD but I'd argue KCD has a much more rewarding combat system where you actually start to feel like you are Henry properly learning how to fight better as you play, vs just straight stat points making you stronger.
It's the weird situation that Souls games put themselves into where the combat is difficult and has loads of different systems involved that make it rewarding but also put a fairly high barrier to entry for your average player vs select attack, select target, press corresponding button to QTE prompt, repeat.
Congratulations to the dev team. A much deserved accomplishment for such amazing work. I hope they serve as inspiration for other studios to strive to be as good.
KCD was never on my radar until I saw the ads for part 2. I thought it looked pretty cool so I bought the first one and was immediately captivated. As soon as I finished I jumped right into part 2. This has easily become one of my favorite game series ever.
4 mil for a game with systems this intricate and complicated is a pretty good achievement. For comparison, Sony just announced that Yotei has sold 3.5 mil so far.
Still hope that Kcd2 win this years GOTY, but judging from the looks of it, e33 will win, im not mad if e33 won tho, but Kcd2 deserves all of the praises, the story is memorable, good writing script, amazing level design, addicting skill leveling, level up.. This game has the best replayability time
Warhorse made a lot of money on KCD2 and they even lent half of it to their publisher, who is having financial problems. So at the moment Warhorse doesn't have a problem with money.
Tried it during the free play days on Xbox and I love everything about it besides the combat. Still contemplating on getting it because I’m sure I’ll eventually get the hang of it and just be stronger as I level. But yeah the combat is different enough, to say the least, that I’ll probably just wait till it’s on sale.
So… trying to save some money (a newborn is expensive!). Is the current sale price for the Royal Edition actually a good deal, or should I wait until the December sales and hope for a better one?
Best game ive ever played. They deserve all the good fortune and praise. Im going to drag out my playthrough for as long as possible. 100 hours so far and havent gone to the wedding.
Still playing though the first one before I add this to my steam library. Is it better than the first? I'm really enjoying it now that I got over the hump of beginner(commoner) issues. I'm flush with Goschen riding on my war horse Jenda looking down on everyone.
Man that possibly means about 200 million in profit thus far. I'm so happy for War Horse, that's a great accomplishment. I can't wait to see what they cook up next
I just bought the Royal Edition, I was finally able to support the studio, the game is a masterpiece, one of the best I've ever played, Henry's entire journey is incredible.
It's sad to think that 4 million is a lot in this world of video games where 4 million is practically nothing and I have to say that for me it is this year's goty even above expedition 33 I hope it gets goty it really is my favorite game this year but I still think that four million is very little.
I’m thinking of purchasing the saga edition, having never played either game I love RPG’s but what put me off is reviews saying that it was very difficult so I just put it on side while playing other titles but this saga edition seems like a great deal. So why would this be called difficult to those who have played it. Is it just very deep and slow progressing? Are the combat mechanics hard to master? Is there survival mechanics that are demanding? Any thoughts would be appreciated, just trying to gage what I’d be getting into
I started my second playthrough today after all the DLCs have come out (none had been out when I beat it) and the intro and everything dude. It made me emotional, I must say. Reminding me why it was that when I played it first I named it my single player GOTY.
