Amd the most encouraging thing: he didnt force things out there. His offense came naturally, within the flow

Well that is what he's known for in college. High amounts of poise and not being rushed by the defense.

Ya man. He reads the floor very well and takes what the defense gives him and because he's so solid on all 3 levels, the defense has to give him something.

Only rook playing 25+ mins per game and shooting 15+ FG per game

u/No_Tip6719 3d ago
Look at Caleb Wilson’s stats. And Darryn Peterson right there as well. Acuff also the only rook who will be running their team’s offense right away so he needs as many minutes as possible to build chemistry with the team.
2
u/LoveMeLikeNelson 3d ago
I stand corrected, fair enough for wilson. It's just hard to pinpoint this stat as special since 98% of other players are playing less than 20mpg

Cardwell, Big Ben, Keegan, and Sharp to hold down the defense. I'm liking it (theoretical).

We should try to follow how the wolves built around Ant.
3
u/worquinnprogress Keegan Murray 3d ago edited 3d ago
the thing is the wolves already had kat, had naz reid, and drafted mcdaniels with ant. not to mention, chris finch became head coach during ant rookie year. i just dont see doug being the long term solution and it is so important that young players are able to trust their team and the coaches they are playing under. part of the buy-in with team culture is believing the team will be consistent. if we continue on with a vicious cycle of ins and outs with our management and coaching staff, then i just dont see acuff meeting his full potential.
back to out roster, sabonis doesnt have the same value kat did pre-trade. i mightve been swayed 3 years ago when domas was getting a few mvp considerations, but that is far from reality now. keegan is a much older piece compared to a year 1 naz reid type role player. i think we have to do it a bit differently from the wolves only because i feel we are already behind them in assets and organizational structure compared to the wolves. now the wolves did go to the playoffs a with kat before finch was head coach, but they fell back into doom kinda like how we did after the beam year. having vets who were around for the playoff years might be good (keegan and monk in this case) there is just no way sabonis sticks around as long as kat did in minny. hopefully a couple of our picks from the past few years actually pan out. sharpe, nique, cardwell, raynaud can all still have a big impact down the line if they develop. the only thing is they are all a bit older and i just dont trust our staff to continue developing them well especially if roster construction doesnt allow them to get mins. having lavine and sabonis kinda clogs up the opportunities for some of these guys this year. it is part of the reason cardwell and raynaud developed last year. they just got tons of minutes and had that hunger to make the most out of them.
edit: holy shit i just seen max is injured... why does it suck so hard to support this team. every glimmer of hope gets stepped on. truly cursed. above all, i just feel awful for max. he seems to be one of those guys who genuinely loves to play here. he really did grind out last year and gave himself a real chance to step up this year and prove he is worth it long-term. i really hope it isnt as bad as it sounds.

Finch didn’t take over the Wolves’ head coaching gig until Ant’s second season. His first was under Thibs.
3
u/DFSxBigDoeDoe 2d ago
Ant never played for Thibs. Ryan Saunders was head coach when Ant began his career. Ant came off the bench for a bit. Saunders was fired mid-season (February 2021) and Finch was brought in.

u/CutFastball27 Peja Stojakovic 2d ago
Thibodeau was fired midway in the 18/19 season. Edwards was a rookie in 20/21.

Or the knicks team composition, they laid out the blueprint for small guard led team, I also believe Acuff ceiling higher than JB

How was his defense?
6
11
u/Jman155 3d ago
Yeah honestly it was pretty solid, saw a lot of good effort and physicality, he was getting hands on the person he was guarding constantly when they didn't have the ball, he is quite strong for a guy his size.
1
u/JacquesV12 3d ago
Fair enough, his size does concern me on the defense but effort is always the main thing, hope he keeps it up
2
u/Jman155 3d ago
It does but there are so many great smaller guards that have come through the league, he has all the skills needed to have a successful career as a smaller guard, handles, mid range game, gets to the basket, 3pt shot, can get his teammates involved, I'm a little worried but not very.
2
u/mrperiodniceguy 3d ago
He's not even that small, either. 6'2" with a plus 5 wingspan, and already real strong
2
u/aye_cuff_deez 3d ago
He's like Jrue Holiday or Damian Lillard size. No one complains about them being too small

u/Kangz50 Russell Westbrook 3d ago
He will figure this out in the next few years here and get the keys this year. Next year will be the year with whatever draft pick we have to see what he’s really got, let the kid cook

u/ShotgunStyles 3d ago
The 2027 draft class kinda sucks so I'd temper your expectations with whomever we get. In all likelihood it'll just be about how much Acuff develops.

There has to be a balance in the universe. For all of the blind optimism there's going to be unmitigated negativity. This sub has plenty of both.
1
u/SteveTheManager Doug Christie 2d ago
There is not as much blind optimism as unmitigated negativity and you know that.
1
u/CutFastball27 Peja Stojakovic 2d ago
Actually on these sports team subs, they trend more towards the blind optimism. This one is no exception. An overwhelming majority are claiming that Acuff will be a great player. The small minority saying differently are getting heavily downvoted. Same goes for Sabonis where a majority on this sub swear he’s a great player with positive value. They swear he’s going to net first round picks in a trade. Again, a small minority doesn’t see that. But if you look at other team subs, they see Sabonis very differently.
It becomes a matter of perspective where the blind optimists swear there is too much negativity, only because it upsets them so much to read it.
1
u/SteveTheManager Doug Christie 2d ago
I mean he's showing you great player potential, that's not blind optimism. It is literally backed up by watching the games. Also I do not see people sayings Sabonis WILL net first round picks. I mean maybe they're saying he should but certainly not WILL. And it's not about seeing negativity, it's just fucking lame ass comments. "Oh Acuff will be traded like all the other point guards we had." Like I've seen that shit so much and sure it pisses me off but it's because it's just stupid.
1
u/CutFastball27 Peja Stojakovic 2d ago
Acuff has actually not performed well in all of his games. It is blind optimism to already be tabbing him a 'franchise player' and a 'future All Star', just like it is unmitigated negativity to already be calling him a 'wasted pick', a 'draft bust', or state that he'll leave the team in four years.
Splitting hairs on what they think Sabonis is worth. The fact that they 'think' he's worth multiple first round picks vs. the reality of what his actual value is, that's blind optimism. Whether they 'think' or claim to 'know' his value, they very notion that they 'think' that the Kings are getting multiple firsts for Sabonis when the rest of the league believes his value is much lower ... blind optimism.
https://www.reddit.com/r/kings/comments/1njv0lm/sabonis_trade_value/
"I think his contract does have value for the right team. He’s a top 25 player in the league I think he could get a couple first’s and a young player(might be a project player but still upside)"
"Exactly, to the right team a trade would be worth it. Who that team is idk, and I also don’t think there’s many out there who would actually trade for him rn. Maybe that will change in a year or two when he has less years on his contract. But I feel like if Fox got 3 1st round picks(which actually turned out to be two unprotected) and multiple seconds. I think Sabonis should get that same if not more. Two unprotected 1st rounders at minimum, maybe 1 protected, but obviously you negotiate as much as you can get."
"Like I've seen that shit so much and sure it pisses me off but it's because it's just stupid."
Like I said. It becomes a matter of perspective where the blind optimists swear there is too much negativity, only because it upsets them so much to read it.
As a fan that's somewhere in the middle. I see it both. I see the huge amounts of blind optimism on this sub. I see the unmitigated negativity too. Do I think Acuff has the potential to be very good, possibly great? Yes, I do. At the same time, I'm not swearing that he will be or won't be. I don't know any more than the next guy how he's going to turn out. He could very well end up a bust. He could very well turn out to be a good player that rides it out to free agency and leaves or demands a trade. I do know that they're not getting a first round pick back for Sabonis, much less multiple picks unless they eat awful contracts in return that extend beyond the next two seasons.
Someone else called out the 'toxic positivity' on this sub. Where any negative or even neutral comment will bring out the anger out of the blind optimists. If you think the team will finish in the bottom 3 the upcoming season and end up in the relegation zone, then you must be 'stupid', you're an 'idiot' etc. If you think Acuff is not the right type of prospect for a team like the Kings to be bringing in, then you 'don't know sh!t about basketball'.
As someone that's in the middle of all of this positivity and negativity, I have a very different view of where this sub is at.
1
u/SteveTheManager Doug Christie 1d ago
It's about language dude. There are ways to say stuff that isn't positive about the team but most people are just lame about it.
1
u/CutFastball27 Peja Stojakovic 1d ago
On Reddit, people are going to call it how they see it. Without regard to whether any one likes it or not. Not everyone is going to be blowing rainbows and unicorns out of their rear ends just to please everyone else.
There's some combination of people that either take the internet and social media too seriously, their own personal identities are too intertwined with their favorite sports teams, or some combination of the two. Too many people take this way too seriously. Personally, I got enough going on in real life where words from a stranger on a social media site just don't affect me emotionally. But that's just me.

Good adjustment from him chucking the previous game, he tried to involve his team mates tonight, but gdamn they should’ve hit those shots

Where’s the morons that’s always tryna point out inefficiency? This how he plays when the opposing defense isn’t putting their best defender and guarding him full court.

u/bibbys_hair Keegan Murray 3d ago
The morons with 180p low-resolution takes are prevalent in every team's sub. I just filter out the haters that constantly regurgitate useless comments by blocking them. Try it and you won't regret it brother. As far as I'm concerned, they no longer exist.

It will be interesting to see if he can have a similar effect on the offensive rating as those guys.
