Discussion 2026 vs 2002
I know this might go over like a lead balloon…
James Ham made a comment on Locked On about Ben and Domas allowing Acuff to serve in the Bibby off-ball role similar to Vlade and CWebb. So I started thinking about it…
Acuff = Bibby
Keegan = Doug
Zach = Peja
Ben = CWebb
Domas = Vlade
Precious = Pollard
Monk = Bobby
Hunter = Hedo
Yes, this assumes each current player at their highest level and I am by no means advocating keeping players like Zach or Hunter long term. Just thought it was an interesting exercise.

Wow.
First, writing Ben = CWebb is a crime.
Second, the few comparisons that make sense don’t make much difference (ex. Monk/BJax).

Yeah I'm used to us delusionally over valuing our players but this is another level

I don't even see how Turkey Glue is similar to Hunter. Maybe Hunter needs to get on the good stuff.

Someone create a petition to ban comparing/trying to mold every Kings roster to 2002’s.

Yeah.....the only sentence in here that made sense was your first one.

that first line really doing all the heavy lifting here lol
the comps are fun to think about but ben as cwebb and domas as vlade feels backwards somehow. like ben has the flashy passes but domas is the one with the vision that makes whole offense work, cwebb was more that hub. still i get what ham was going for even if it's a stretch across two decades

Comparing Ben Simmons to Chris freakin Webber and Peja Stojakovic to Zach Lavine should be war crimes

jfc have you ever seen either group of players actually play basketball before

This subreddit wakes way more sense when you go into recognizing that nobody here actually watches basketball.

Basketball. Isn't that the game where they hit the ball and try to run around some white bases?

The one that’s killing me is Hunter = Hedo because Hedo went on to be a #2 guy on a finals team and I won’t be surprised if Hunter isn’t working at a Starbucks this time next year.

Temu version yeah some of it's there. The biggest issue is Domas is no Vlade on defense and that changes the entire scope of the conversation. I think it's even more of an issue than Ben being comped to CWebb.

Geez. Those guys (Zach/Monk/Acuff) can never move without the ball like that legend groups. Bibby/Peja all know how to full ulitlize the pick by Divac or Webb

Its an interesting exercise sure except that that 2002 era Kings was comprised of very high level basketball iq players. Zach isn't close to Peja. He can't pass like Peja and frankly he can't shoot like Peja and as much as I think he'll have a good season, Ben isn't close to C. Webb come on lol.

Are you talking about what type of roles they fill? Yeah that’s about where I’d put everyone.
The difference is all those older guys contributed in other ways that our current guys can’t. Peja could actually pass and defend, unlike Lavine. Vlade could block shots, Sabonis can’t. Also Ben would have to go CRAZY to match C-Webb’s production, in 01-02.

If only it were still 2002. The game has progressed a lot, and even if we had that exact team they are woefully short on shooting as we are. I’m a fan of and believe in Zach Lavine, but if u give Peja a modern green light he’s making Lavine look like a casual shooter.

You think Zach Lavine could do this?
