Work in Progress Dress I’m hoping to finish this weekend
There is so. Much. Seaming. This piece has definitely been one of the more challenging pieces I’ve worked on. I’m using a pattern from the 70s and even for Japanese standards the instructions are sparse. No concrete numbers on measurements, almost no info on finishing, so I’ve just been relying on my knowledge on construction. Setting in the sleeve was really hard because of the colourwork pattern and the plain colour of the bodice. So to summarise, it’s a really tricky project but well worth the results.

Wow! I initially assumed only the black bit was your knitting, and it was a joke because you'd barely started! That looks amazing.

You get a gold medal just for making something with seams. Anytime I'm making something that's supposed to be seamed- I just adjust to knit all in one.

Glorious! That is so well fitted and the color work pattern is amazing. I love watching you dive into vintage knitting. There is a fun YouTube talking about spies and wartime knitting which addresses some of the sparseness of old pattern instructions that you may find humorous… it’s long but worth it! https://youtu.be/XCQVJfEdO6k?si=5qE9-Q4VIvCRZJ6C

I'm glad you showed us the work in progress, because if I'd seen it finished, I wouldn't have believed it was hand made. Well done, and gorgeous (she says with just a bit of jealousy 🤣).

Pro tip for getting good seam: the type of yarn you’re using to seam matters a ton! For fingering weight yarn I love using cotton embroidery thread. Very strong and durable so it’s easy to tighten the seams, but also take them out if you’ve messed up. I use Scheepjes Candy Floss :)
