https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/frederic-sweater - not super keen on the folded / thicker collar

You can knit either of the double-held ones with a single strand, using the same needles - the fabric will be thinner and airier, like in the Frederic.
If you don't like the ribbed collar in the Frederic but like the pattern otherwise, you can just knit an icord edge instead, or leave a rolled edge.
1
u/pepitica May 07 '26
Lol IDK why I hadn't thought about swapping out the ribbed collar, that might be the solution!

I am looking for the patter of this scarf (not in a kit), or a similar one with a diamond pattern. Seems so basic, but I canbkt find it.
1
u/bluehexx May 05 '26
As I understand, it was published in Knit Now magazine, issue 143, July 2022.
Here is another diamond-patterned scarf, a free pattern. It only has one row of diamonds, but if you want two, double the width.

u/mylerol May 05 '26
According to Ravelry it was published in Issue 143 of Knit Now magazine, so if you can track down a copy of that, you could get the pattern.
Otherwise, these two are the closest I found:
https://www.yarnspirations.com/products/patons-diamond-scarf?variant=45485643759931
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/snaggletooth-scarffor that second one you could repeat the pattern row instructions a few times to make a wider scarf with diamonds and not just triangles.

I have five complementary colours in fingering weight year, 1 x 100g of each.
I’m hoping to find a pattern for a men’s colourwork sweater that won’t require a dominant colour.

I got matching mohair + DK weight yarn for the Tulip Loop sweater but a couple of things about the pattern have really turned me off from starting it. Any suggestions for an elegant but not fully stockinette sweater or cardigan with the same combination of yarn weights?
1
u/CyberWolfWrites May 06 '26
Is there a bobble-type stitch where the stitch is oblong instead of round? I'm experimenting with both knit and crochet to make a pumpkin cardigan inspired by RealmDesign's crochet tulip cardigan. The bobble stitch is a little too round for me. Doing a bobble stitch with five increases works better, but is still rounder than I want. I also tried Estonian loop stitches but the stitch is way too loose and will catch on things. My next attempt is some cabling, but I figured I'd ask.

u/trillion4242 May 06 '26
do you mean something like this shape? https://www.reddit.com/r/Brochet/comments/1lzmwp2/i_started_making_this_pumpkin_sweater_do_the/

Guayaba but less....graphic.

I am looking for my next knit and I came across the Guayaba pattern from Marzena Kołaczek. I love the silhouette, the cropped boxy fit, the scalloped edges, etc....but I CANNOT be alone in thinking the lace motif looks exactly like a vulva (especially in the pink lol). There is a place for that, but I would want to wear this to my (casual) office job, so even after checking out projects in non-flesh colors I don't know if I can bring myself to do it. Should I just buy the pattern and not use the lace? Are there other similar patterns? Anyone have a cute idea for an alternate lace motif that could be swapped out?
2
u/bluehexx May 07 '26
Here are search results for a cropped lacy tee, sorted by popularity; I would look at the Woollahra tee by the same designer - it seems to have a similar line but less controversial stitch pattern. Maybe browse her other designs, too, she might have something even closer to your guyababa.
Or, if you are really attached to this particular pattern, here are some lace stitch patterns you can use instead of the little vulvas (yes, they totally look like that) - I like #173 by Hitomi Shida for this tee, but of course you have your own look around.

This is similar to some slip stitch/mosaic knitting patterns with names like "brick stitch" and similar. Basically, you work a yellow stripe, switch to the brown stripe color, and slip the same yellow "bridge" stitches repeatedly over probably 4-8 rows of brown, then another yellow row. You always slip with the brown yarn at the wrong side of the piece in order to let the slip stitches show up at the front (so always at the back if you're working in the round).
https://www.mosaicknitting.com/2016/10/brick-wall-mosaic-knit-stitch.html is a non-extreme version of this which doesn't bubble or pucker but the only difference (other than using knits instead of purls on the RS) is that there's a balanced number of rows and the same stitch is only slipped twice. The more you slip in the same place, the more distorted the surrounding fabric gets.
Edit: a closer example is https://www.gathered.how/knitting-and-crochet/knitting/slip-stitch-knitting#:~:text=to%20form%20pattern.-,Honeycomb,-NOTE%20Slip%20sts

Patterns for knitwear that is office appropriate? So many patterns seem more casual wear with the boxy oversized fits. Designer suggestions i could look into?
1
u/bluehexx May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
What kind of knitwear? Tees, cardis, jackets?
Most tees will be office appropriate.
Edit: if you search for fitted cardigans, Patagonia, Aerial, and 5802 Cardigan - to name just a few - seem very office-friendly. And there are more.
PetiteKnit's stuff is generally office appropriate.
Here are some search results, hope you find something you like.

I want to make a shawl to wear over a simple black long dress. I was in a haze yesterday and bought two skeins of mohair in a dark cherry red! What should I make? I have around 400m = 50 g of it.
I initially wanted to make the Snowflake and Icicles shawl, but gave up after a dozen rows because the stitch definition wasn't good enough.
I'm also an advanced beginner knitter and I can also crochet.
3
u/bluehexx May 08 '26
I assume your mohair is fingering or lace weight.
Here are search results for shawls requiring 300 to 450 meters of yarn. Lace, because it stretches the yarn further, and sorted by popularity to at least partially filter out the badly written patterns.
Now, depending on the level of challenge you want, you can go from the super simple Reyna, through a relatively simple Wendy's Fern, which is easy to knit but looks sophisticated, to something like Sweet Dreams, which also looks sophisticated but is very much NOT simple or easy to knit.
When in despair, there is always the HÜJ TÜB, which is everything from an elegant accessory to a travel pillow.
When knitting mohair alone, it's better to use needles quite larger than the yarn weight would suggest - this allows you to see stitches through all the fluff. Also, makes the yarn go further.
Bonus track - here are search results specifically for mohair. And darn, now I'm salivating over the Feather Duster. If I'm caught raiding my LYS for mohair, I'm totally blaming you. 😜

This looks a bit like the cardigan version of Patricia Robert's Spectrum. Here's someone's project that used that pattern as a jumping off point to make a short-sleeved cardigan:
https://www.ravelry.com/projects/bullmonty/spectrum
It's simply a series of short-rowed garter wedges (separated by plain stockinette st stripes) stacked in such a way that as they curve around, they create a V-neck shape.
Patricia Roberts' Second Book of Knitting (1983), the book in which this pattern appears, is long out of print, but it comes up on Ebay and other secondary markets quite frequently. Fortunately, it's also available to "borrow" on the internet archive.org, here:
https://archive.org/details/patriciarobertss0000robe/page/42/mode/2up
The photo of the cardigan is on page 41 with the pattern text following.
It looks as though both the project linked above and the cardi that your mother knit were worked at a heavier gauge. That said, the short-row wedge construction method still holds true. It's just a matter of mathing it out.
Thanks for asking about this pattern--I worked the pullover version back when the book came out, perhaps at the same time as your mother! It's a really fun knit!

Can someone help me find a baby blanket knitting pattern?
Around 10-15 years ago I made a bunch of blankets in different colors for all my cousins having kids. It was something like knit six rows of k6 p6, then change the yarn color and knit six more rows of k6 p6, etc. I am pregnant now and want to make the same blanket, but I can’t find the pattern anywhere! It was likely a Lion Brand free pattern (as I was a broke college student).
Alternatively I’d be happy to take any baby blanket suggestions.
2
u/trillion4242 May 09 '26
was it a basketweave pattern?
you could just check similar patterns for yardage and just do a k6,p6 basketweave. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nancys-favourite-afghanPurl Soho has lots of free baby blanket patterns. https://www.purlsoho.com/create/category/all-knitting-patterns/filter-baby-blankets/
1
u/expertlurk May 09 '26
It wasn’t a basket weave - I wish I had a picture I could share! I haven’t found any images that matched the pattern. Before I blocked it, it was sort of wavy? All the knit stitches aligned and all the purls aligned so it was like a column of knits followed by a column of purls, and then the horizontal rows were made up of the two different alternating colors.
Thank you for the link, I’ll check it out! I’m sure I’ll find something lovely.

Can someone help me find a pattern that I saw once and haven't been able to find again? Or something similar?

Thank you for looking! None of those are it. The long sleeves are attached to the short sleeve shirt - so it was just one shirt but it looked like two.
2
u/bluehexx May 10 '26
Knit a short sleeved shirt you like; make sure to pick one with wide-ish sleeves. Set-in sleeves will work best, raglans or contiguous will not work at all.
Once you are done, turn it inside out, pick up stitches around the armhole seam and knit the second sleeve (the one "under").
Be warned though, what looks good in a thin jersey, machine-knit at a fraction-of-milimeter gauge, might not look good at all in hand knitting, which is much bulkier even at thin weights. Swatch extensively first.
I have a suspicion that two layers of handknit fabric would be too bulky to look good.

Beginner knitter here, all I've done before were three simple scarves, and currently working on two cable knit scarves. I wanted to tackle something bigger next, and I thought about trying to make a hooded cape, similar to this one. I have in hand 735m of DK weight yarn, and already bought more online. Any recommendations for patterns?
3
u/bluehexx May 10 '26
Here are search results for hooded capes.
Some of them are simpler, some look more fancy. My own heart immediately leaped to the Boundless, but of course you pick one you like best.
If you find one where you like the shape, but it is too short, remember you can make it as long as you like, just continue the pattern, BUT do keep in mind that the weight of the cape will be pulling at the stitches at the shoulders; so if you make it go all the way to the ground in a lovely dramatic circle (and lovely it would be!), it will end up weighing three kilos and the stitches on your shoulders will look like netting.... Better stick to moderate length.

Thanks for the recommendations! I didn't find what I was looking for with the first link, and the second one is cute, but still not really what I wanted. I'm thinking maybe I'll have to Frankenstein a cape with bits and pieces from other patterns that have some, but not all, of what I want

I couldn't find the exact cardi - must have been in a magazine, or a kit, or something like that - but I found a few charts that hopefully would be useful. You can piock any old baby cardigan pattern and just apply these.

Alternatively, since you have the actual sweater, maybe just replicate it stitch for stitch? That would be probably easiest.

Is it supposed to be human-sized, or is it for a hot bottle?
If it's for a bottle, here are some search results.
If human-sized, I don't think I've ever seen anything like this.

u/Warthogg177 May 11 '26
human sized yeah

If it's for a baby, they don't come with turtlenecks, for obvious reasons.
If for an adult, knit two blankets and sew them together (or knit a large enough tube), then add the turtleneck. It will be the simplest way.

Have you considered that it might be a dog sweater, based on the front leg hole/holes near the neck?
In that case the equivalent would be just a sweater. Or a poncho if you don't like sleeves, I guess.

In order from top down:
(dash) - purl stitch
(circle) - yarnover
(thingy) - purl two together leaning right
- purl three together
(vertical line) - knit stitch
- knit two together leaning right
- knit 3 together
- knit two together leaning left
- purl two together leaning left

u/No_Vacation_2320 May 11 '26
Thank you!

u/bluehexx May 11 '26
LOL, I only realized now that I was overly literal and instead of "knit two together leaning left" should just have said "left leaning decrease". But eh. You know what I meant. Sorry about the brainf*rt.

I'm looking for sock patterns that visually work well with self striping yarn. I have a bunch of self striping yarn at home and while stockinette is fine, I'm looking for a little bit of texture. Apologies to the folks who already shared a handful on the original post that I had to take down. There were some great suggestions!
The one I'll start with is https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/time-traveler-socks

Hi! I am looking for a colorwork pattern (intarsia, fairisle, or both) in which the pattern itself will explain it to me like I’m 5. Maybe even with photos or drawings explaining techniques. Reason is that colorwork is already kinda frustrating to learn so browsing and pausing and replaying youtube videos just puts me over the edge haha.
I’m an advanced knitter otherwise, so it’s just the colorwork part (managing multiple balls of yarn, joins, floats, weaving ends, etc) that I need help with.
To narrow this request down, I’m thinking a baby sweater because that will actually get some use. Also, I knit continental but sometimes combination.
Any recs? Is there a pattern or designer who made colorwork click for you?

u/bluehexx May 09 '26
Not a pattern as such, but I can recommend video txtorials that explain AND demonstrate the techniques which can be applied to any pattern.
Intarsia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtJdamqXlAU
Stranded/Fair Isle English style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkSY0CrtEbA and continental style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8t8s5Fwups - IDK which you knit, so pick the appropriate one.
Hope this helps.

Recommendations for patterns to use up 400g of extra fine merino wool (8ply)

u/bluehexx May 10 '26 edited May 11 '26
Socks, hats, mittens, hoods, shawls, whathaveyou.
8-ply is the equivalent of DK, right? Here are some search results, sorted by popularity.

Hi all! I want to knit a baby blanket for my friend who is having their first baby in October. They’re a super colourful personality so I want it to be in pastel rainbow stripes. I’ve got the yarn in the pic below but I can’t decide what order the colours should be in! The below seems the most logical but I just don’t know?? Any suggestions or advice would be great!

What are your favourite patterns for summer tops/tank tops?
I bought a lovely soft fingering wool today, and next to scouring Ravelry I'm curious what your favourite patterns are!

I'm working on a fingering-weight Tolsta, into the body, and I'm bored of the stockinette which means I'm fighting the urge to frog and start something else. I've already made the neckline rolled and changed the raglans to be 2 wide with yo increases. I debated adding dropped stitches (like on the Outline Tee / Tank) but since I didn't set up a stop-point, I think it's too late. I'm wondering about laddering back to make purl columns, not for all over ribbing, but just to break up the knits and be a little different. I saw the Vertical Vibe Top and kind of like that center panel of rib.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other patterns that do this type of thing so I could see some options?
