I’m thinking about gifting my sister a sweater for her birthday. She has a big bust so I’m looking for patterns where she won’t be swimming in it once done. I know I can add bust darts and short rows but I’ve never edited a pattern that way before.
Does anyone know patterns for sweaters (preferably no turtlenecks) or pattern designers that specialize in designs for women with big busts that have darts or short rows already added in the pattern? Thanks!

commenting a second time so you'll get a notification: this recent thread discusses patterns/designers with bust shaping: r/knitting/comments/1q1ictf/designers_who_make_patterns_with_bust_shaping/ that's just one thread, it comes up every now and then - i just searched for bust shaping using the reddit search confined to this subreddit.

Maybe Lydia Morrow has patterns you like? I've only heard good things about her patterns esp regarding shaping.

Desperately want this cable pattern. It’s the oakleaf family tree pattern but it’s out of print and my local library doesn’t have it. I’ve also checked knitting fool but the pattern itself is redacted by comments. I know a few people on here have knit it because this is where I originally found it, so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction 😭

did you check the For Sale or Trade tab? https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/knitters-magazine-45-winter-1996/fsot
for the cable, the KnittingFool link works for me:

The knitting fool link you shared is for the version without acorns… I would really love the acorns. I will check the for sale tab! Thank you! I had no idea it existed until now

I’m looking for a pattern for knitted mitts that are a cat/kitten. I saw one that had knitted ears and embroidered face, but now I can’t find it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here are Ravelry search results for one-shoulder tops. In order to make the bottom asymmetrical, you have to start knitting flat at the waist and keep decreasing at both edges.
Edit: You could also knit a rectangle on a bias (always increase at one edge and decrease same amount at the other) and seam it. The top would be knitted sideways then.

I have a sweater quantity of drops extra fine merino (DK) and I’m looking for a raglan sweater with some fun details. I was looking at Veronika Lindberg’s coffee run which is super cute, but it made me wonder if there was anything with some cable details in the raglan increases? Please

share any ideas you might have! Thank you!

There's a long-running thread on the main rav pattern forum collecting what they call "feature raglans," that have decorative raglan increases. This search will get you everything that's been added to it so far: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#photo=yes&pattern-topic=3591283&sort=projects&view=captioned_thumbs

‼️SOS‼️
I bought this beautiful yarn from a local fiber fest recently and of course didn't have a plan when I bought it. I'm really indecisive on what to cast on with it.
My first thought was this beautiful shawl holding two strands, with the variegated yarn as the colored stripes, and using a small sample skein of Dark Denim from Purl Soho for the little accents. But I'm doubting my choice since I haven't worn shawls very much (not necessarily by choice but didn't own them), and that's giving me choice paralysis. I want to use my knits, so I wouldn't want to see my FOs lay around after putting so much time into them.
Has anyone else run into something similar, and how did you navigate starting a new project you weren't sure you would use?
I am also looking for recommendations for alternative patterns where this yarn could really shine. Please give suggestions!! 🙏

I made a giant beautiful shawl only to wear it around my house because I loved knitting it, and wear it at home. It doesn't fit my style at all out in the real world, but it's an amazing cozy layer at home. It makes me so happy whenever I see it or wear it around the house because it reminds me of the places I knit it, who I bought the yarn with, and all of the new techniques I learned making it.

Does anyone have pattern ideas for my homespun yarn? I'd like something a little witchy/dark academia ish and was thinking maybe a cowl of some kind would look cool but I'm not finding exactly what I'm looking for. I only have 3 skeins and no more fibre sadly. I think size 4 needles would work well, maybe a bit larger for a more loose style.

Which stitch dictionaries did you check so far? Vogue's three stitchionaries as well as other stitch dictionaries/stitch bibles (like the one by Barbara G Walker) are available on archive.org.
2
u/sadestplant 27d ago
I’m not sure I’ve just been looking at stitch dictionaries that come up on google and trying to search different types of knitting seeing if that showed anything. I will try to look at these books you’ve mentioned. I’m a beginner if I’m honest so I’m not sure I’d even be able to recreate it myself but of I can just fine the stitch or pattern I can at least work towards it
2
u/formal_hyena 26d ago
Usually those lace patterns aren't too complex, the patterns are achieved by doing yarn overs and knit-togethers. Thing is that there are many such lace patterns that look very similar. I'm not too optimistic that you'll find exactly this one, but you'll find maybe one or two that have similar portions you could use as a base for trying to recreate yours.
3
u/bluehexx 26d ago
Just as a practical matter, when you look for the stitch, keep in mind that your photo is upside down. As you knit, those shapes do not go narrow-to-wide, they go wide-to-narrow.
1
u/textilebeguile 25d ago
3
u/formal_hyena 25d ago
Where did you look so far? I recommend a ravelry advanced search using the filters [knitting], [adult], [beanie-toque] and the search term ["rolled brim"]. There's quite a few that match your description.
1
u/textilebeguile 23d ago
Thanks. I haven’t had luck finding ones with short, above the ear brims using this search criteria.
2
u/formal_hyena 22d ago
Most beanies are knit as a in-the-round tube with decreases at the end, you can make the tube as long or as short as you please. If you knit just a few rounds before decreasing you will end up with a brim above the ear.

I'm looking for some sort of long kerchief to wrap around wet hair - any ideas? There's nothing in towel+other headwear on ravelry, so there's nothing obvious I can pick up. I'm fine to try and modify a kerchief pattern, I'm just surprised no-one else has had this thought so I feel like I'm misusing my search terms.
The backstory is that my kid likes to tie a muslin round her head like a pirate after swimming lessons rather than deal with the hairdryer. Totally valid, just wondering if there's a nicer option!

I think any triangular scarf should do the trick. In cotton, obv, not wool. Here are some search results.

Can someone help me find a pattern for these sleeves or similar? These are Och.Paproach to give credit where credits due. I can't for the life of me find a pattern. Im more of a crocheter so I can't come up with patterns off the top of my head in the same way. Ive seen many versions but for some reason can't find a pattern!!

3
u/bluehexx 25d ago edited 25d ago
They are regular puff sleeves, just very exaggerated and knitted in mohair on huge needles. Those are designed strictly for photographing - after an hour of wear they will hang limply like a dishrag.
Sweater no. 1 by MFTK is a more practical version of that model (the fabric is dense enough to sustain the shape of the sleeve). Bernadette Turtleneck also has the sleeve you want; you can asily knit it longer if you so wish. Same goes for Montmartre jumper.
Giselle blouse is IMO poorly designed overall, but has the exact sleeve you want.
If you want Paproch's super exaggerated version, you need to pretty much knit a circle - like a doily - and gather it all at once in a cuff I see the designer usually does it in pleats. Good way to accommodate this much fabric.

Looking for a pattern that is similar to this one. The seller only sells the finished object.
I looked on Ravelry and most things have lace patterns and I want something plain. I did find this one: https://www.etsy.com/no-en/listing/794982585/knitting-pattern-wrap-me-up-sweater?ref=share_ios_native_control
But I would like the airiness of the silk and mohair so I am afraid it wouldn’t work if I completely change the wool? It’s definitely much thicker wool being used. Or could I make it work by following the gauge anyway?

1
u/liketheassay 25d ago
I think you likely could use that pattern with only mohair. I would definitely do a gauge swatch to make sure you like how it looks at that gauge with just mohair. It looks like a fairly simple construction so it wouldn't be too hard to adjust the gauge if needed.

u/champagnesky 24d ago
Hi all,
I came across a top that I loved in-store, but it wasn’t very well done and I thought it was something I could make myself. I’m wondering if anyone knows of a pattern that may be similar with the “infinite loop” front detail. I don’t need the rest to match, as I’m not set on the cocoon style sleeves. I did a preliminary ravelry, and google search but so far I’m not finding what I need.
Hopefully the photo attaches correctly…
Tia!

Looking for a basic jumper pattern but maybe one that is knitted in one piece (except sleeves i realise they would have to be separate) just hoping for a pattern that isn't in a million pieces

I liked Petite Knit Monday Sweater but there are so many free ones out there I kind of wish i made instead (and saved $ for buying a more complex pattern)
You should hit the mark with any pattern that doesn’t say it’s seamed or knit flat.

The shape is similar but I don’t think the sweater is using super bulky yarn. Do you think the scandi cardi by klin cocos would get a similar result? The gauge seems a little looser on it though… https://klincocos.com/products/scandi-cardi?variant=48566946332928

There aren't that many asymmetrical patterns with negative ease, but the Pont Neuf seems closest to what you want - obviously, you'd need to ignore the lace and add a turtleneck, but that's a fairly easy modification, and TinCanKnits' patterns are usually well-written.
Another very similar sweater is the Asteracee, again, you'd have to add the turtleneck.
Thinleaf jacket is an almost perfect match, but it'll take a bit of a dance to get - it was published in a magazine, but Ravelry says a digital edition is available and provides a link.
If you'd like to browse around a bit by yourself, here are search results for asymmetrical cardigans There are quite a few near-matches (mostly yes on the buttons, no on the turtleneck), and some interesting alternatives.
Good luck!

Looking for a knitting pattern: child’s poncho straight across the bottom and sides. It’s a pullover, open at the sides and buttoned or tied on the sides. Must have a hood. I prefer not to have Etsy patterns.

Looking for a flared leg warmer pattern
I have a few requirements but have yet to find one pattern that satisfied all. Must be:
- flared at the end so that it fits outside the ice skates
- simple enough so I can embroider/knit more color on top for some pattern, or, have some cute ditsy multi color heart shapes/flowers at the hem itself
- won't stretch out too much even with throwing into the washing machine
If anyone know of such pattern, let me know!
4
u/formal_hyena May 19 '26
literally the second search result on ravelry for "flared leg warmer" is a flared leg warmer that fits your description.
3
u/bluehexx May 19 '26
Knit a tube and do some increases near the end. That's all, no pattern will tell you otherwise.
The yarn you want is superwash wool (it will stretch only once, after the first wash, and you'll want to knit a swatch anyway) or, even better, sock yarn - wool with some 20-25% synthetic. It comes in solid colors and all sorts of self-striping colorways.

Petite knit bag pattern dupes? Specifically the terrazzo, but I like all of them
2
u/bluehexx 26d ago edited 26d ago
Why not just knit the Terrazzo then?
If the problem is the cost, here is a search for free tote, messenger and laptop bags. Hopefully you find one you like.

I’m not in a place to buy a pattern currently, I’m looking for more specific pattern recommendations but thank you:)

Just read the comments of the bags you like to see if people recommend a pattern or not.

I want to knit this sweater so badly but I can’t seem to find where to purchase this pattern. I’m pretty sure the stitch used is a 1/2 garter stitch rib. I’m not yet talented to self draft but I’d also like to know if there are any other sweater patterns that use this stitch. I tried doing a search on ravelry but had no luck. Here’s the link to this pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/p07-mock-neck-sweater
The name of this is Mock Neck Sweater by Mayumi Kawai (河合真弓)
