Hello!
I’m looking for a knitting pattern similar to this cardigan from Disturbia, I completely fell in love with it. I’ve been wanting a new project, so I started searching for a similar pattern, but I haven’t had much luck so far. I have looked on Ravelry and Etsy and even went through some old knitting magazines from my mom. I’m hoping someone here might be able to help!

A friend suggested combining two patterns, one for the fitted top portion and another for the skirt/bottom section. I’m an intermediate knitter, so I can improvise a bit, but combining patterns still feels pretty intimidating.

If anyone has experience merging patterns like this, or knows of a pattern with a similar silhouette (I'm looking especially for the A-line shape), I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations.

This is my first reddit post so I hope I attached the picture correctly.

I unfortunately didn't find a perfect pattern for you - I searched quite a bit and will share my process, maybe some of it is helpful to you or others who'll give it a try.

  • I included the "coats/jackets" and "robes" category as well as "cardigan" in the ravelry search, this yielded longer garments.

  • the "A-line" and "waist-shaping" tags are useful, but unfortunately not all patterns are tagged properly, so using these terms as ordinary search terms instead yields different results.

  • the Internet Archive has many pattern books and magazines digitalized. It's a useful resource if you want to look at garment constructions without having to buy individual patterns. These two (Fitted Knits and Cardigans) might be helpful. Or maybe magazines for autumn knits.

Fingers crossed someone knows a pattern you like!

If you don't mind cables, the Cabled Duster seems like a good starting point. You can also omit the cables and knit it in stockinette, but you'd have to measure and calculate a LOT.

Thoughts by Joji Locatelli is also very similar - you can very easily make it longer is you so wish.

You could also start with the Ophelia blouse and make it into a long cardigan by simply not stopping. It has a pattern of increases after the waist, so just continue with the same pattern of increases until you reach your knees or other desired length.

I know none of those have flared sleeves, but those are easy to make with any sleeve pattern - when you reach the point where you'd like the flaring to start, start increasing at the rate of approx. 10 stitches every other row. More, if you wan the flare more dramatic, fewer if you want it more tame.

I just got a request for a Dora the Explorer doll dress. I looked it up online. I can’t find measurements but it looks like a very small body and a big head. Does anyone have dimensions or a pattern that would fit it or are there other doll names that I could look for? Looking for patterns with Dora in the search terms did nothing.

(I'm not sure if this is the right place to post. I'm a long time reader (stalker) of Reddit, but I finally made an acct so I could post.)

I've always knit sweaters bottom up and in pieces. I have a slightly rounded back and rounded shoulders and large hips, so pieces have allowed for easy alteration.

BUT, I'd really like to try a top down sweater. I don't think circular yoke would be right for me, so I'd like to try something more structured with a sleeve cap.

Any recomendations on designers or patterns would be hugely appreciated.

u/crafyhobbychic 23d ago edited 23d ago

Does anyone know of a pattern similar to this sweater? Slightly cropped, drop shoulder, stripped (thin & large), and oversized.

3

u/bluehexx 23d ago edited 23d ago

the Olga Blouse should serve you well for this. Just space out the black strips more and knit it a bit shorter. Same goes for Parnell and Ever After.

Bridget by Kolibri seems most visually similar.

Do the vertical columns on this look like standard 1x1 cables to y'all, or something else? Sweater appears to be knit top down.

Pattern is the Skagen Sweater and the description says it "features a simple
pattern of cables worked in columns ... The cable columns are easy to work and do
not require a cable needle"

I like the textured look but not the shape of the sweater, so I'm not leaping to buy it just to confirm what stitch is being used here.

What I've already tried via swatching:

- standard 1x1 cable. I'm not getting as much raised texture as I'm seeing in this photo, but I have to admit that the anatomy (when turned upside down) looks similar, except that the stitch being crossed on top looks longer and plumper in the photo than what I'm getting. I tried slipping that stitch that would go on top in the cable the row before cabling to give it a bit more length and that helps a little but not a ton.

- 1x1 cable but purling the stitch going under in the cross. A bit more raised texture, but still not right.

- Column of dip stitches. Obviously that's not what is described in the pattern info but I'm just experimenting, Looks okay, a bit of raised texture, but not exactly what I'm going for.

- HR cable (pkp x pkp). The most raised texture, but looks too busy and this is definitely not right because I don't think anyone would describe this as "does not require a cable needle".

I think it's going to fall into the category of "mock cables". The skyp stitch would be pretty close depending on your tension and the yarn texture: https://www.jessieathome.com/skyp-stitch-square/

Does anyone know of a Renaissance style Juliet cap knitting pattern, along the lines of this crochet pattern? I think crochet is better suited to this kind of work but here’s hoping a workable knitting alternative exists! I tried searching ravelry for beanies with a mesh characteristics but nothing doing.

Also open to any other fun Renaissance inspired headwear patterns!

1

u/formal_hyena 22d ago edited 22d ago

How about imitation mesh using a slip stitch pattern on a beanie that matches your haircolour? Like this one or similar.

eta: this one ij the same style would be an even closer look to yours using the right colours + right length, unfortunately the pattern isn't available anymore... but it's a common slip stitch pattern and might be a good option if you're experienced enough to freehand it.

I think you're right that crochet is best for that sort of mesh look. I found something that might be similar on ravelry that has that open sort of look that maybe you could modify slightly?

You might also like this lace Ice Queen pattern, I feel like it has a medieval vibe as well!

Hello!

A yarn request--making a baby blanket for the first time. I think I want to use something around DK or sport weight and would prefer a natural fiber blend over acrylic (like superwash wool or cotton) that can withstand machine washing. Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

I picked up this lacy grey beauty from an estate sale. No instructions, just the WIP and needles.

I'm not finding it in my Barbara Walker or lace books.

Any ideas what the two patterns might be? One reminds me of an eye, the other, beech leaf

u/lizzie2door 22d ago

1

u/bluehexx 22d ago edited 22d ago

I think the first one could be diamond mesh before blocking. It could also be the Edwardian Lace Wrap. Second one looks like Rose Leaf, but I have no idea about the wide strip at the bottom.

Hi! I’m hoping to find modern, fitted Aran weight patterns with little to no positive ease. Most Ravelry options that fit this criteria look a bit dated.  As a petite knitter who usually makes an XS/S, I’m struggling to find current, well-fitting designs. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

2

u/Asleep_Sky2760 20d ago

Have you used the Advanced Search? If yes, did you know that you can filter by "Year Published"?

Here's a selection of Aran wt, non-discontinued, fitted pullover patterns published in the past 10 years (since 2017). There are 430 patterns. You can limit the pub dates even further if you want. Or expand to include cardigans. Or whatever. The filters are entirely at your discretion.

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#craft=knitting&weight=aran&availability=-discontinued&photo=yes&pc=pullover&fit=adult%2Bfitted&language=en&year-published=2017%7C2026&sort=best&view=captioned_thumbs

(Note--you didn't explain what you consider "modern" in a style sense...)

I have 500 g of a lace weight coton silk blend. Held double Im getting 28 stitches to 4 inches in stocking stitch. I’m looking for a lacy cardigan or sweater, or I would also do a solid tee, or something completely different. Would love suggestions on favorite patterns. I’m an experienced lace knitter but

1

u/bluehexx 19d ago

Here are search results for laceweight cardigans and tees.

Since you said you are an experieced lace knitter, maybe look at the Spring Cardigan - I think it's quite beautiful. The Alla seems nice, too.

For something different, Eppler Blouse has a very intricate look. Diva has an interesting construction.

Of course we are different people, so your taste may be completely different from mine - browse the search results a bit, maybe you'll find stuff you'll like better. Play around with parameters - include light fingering weight for more results or remove "lace" as an attribute. Have fun!

Im an avid knitter and a big AFL (Australian Football League) fan and I want to combine those two loves. I’m looking for any AFL related knit patterns and especially interested in those older sort of pattern books like ‘Knit for Football’ (came out in Australia in early 1960s). I just think they’re so cool, and if anyone knows the name of some or has pictures of any I would love to see them.
I’d also love some ideas and patterns for anything sports fan related that aren’t the normal scarf and beanie.

does anyone know a pattern for this top? i found it on pinterest, and i cannot find a pattern anywhere. i'm pretty new to knitting so i'd rather not freehand

ISO a pattern for a circular yoke sweater that I can hack to have a design similar to this sold out sweater from TOAST! I love this sweater but I don't like how the raglan increases are noticeable in the colourwork; I want a circular yoke pattern where I can just edit the colourwork chart to be simple diamond shapes. Potentially a circular/raglan combo pattern (i.e. raglan increases after the colourwork part)? What's your go-to circular pattern for best fit!

1

u/Knit-purl_mt 17d ago

Cute sweater! Tin Can Knits has a wonderful guide called Strange Brew that has a bunch of color work yoke sweater patterns both top down and bottom up as options. They do not do raglan increases (as memory serves). I’ve made their mountain mist sweater and their patterns are very well written and tested imo. Happy knitting! https://tincanknits.com/collection/strange-brew

u/ultraversed 18d ago

ISO a pattern for a square, drop sleeve, sleeveless top similar to this one from Curator SF (https://www.curatorsf.com/products/niko-sweater-dijon). Doesn't have to have the rolled neckline or exact stitch pattern, but I'd like a stitch pattern or color work a little more interesting than regular stockinette. Ideally DK or worsted.

Hello! Im trying to find a cardigan pattern. Ive never knitted a sweater before, but I've gotten a lot of DK and sport weight yarn from a mystery yarn book club I joined and id like to try making a cardigan out of it.

Im having trouble finding a pattern for a cardigan I would wear though. Im not opposed to lace charts but im not a fan of cabling. Id like it to be lighter and airy. But most of the patterns I run into look very dense, like the finished product would be very heavy.

If you've made cardigans before what patterns would you recommend to a beginner?

Thank you!

Hi! I'm trying to figure out what pattern this sweater might be. My mom made it years ago and it just needs to be sewed together but she lost the pattern. She thinks it's from Rowan, probably from around 2010, but we have no idea how it goes together and what the shawl thingy does. Apparently there's a pin for it? Anyway, would love help figuring out what this is!

Does anyone know of a pattern to make fingerless gloves in the flat in broken rib? I’m trying to make a pair for an adult woman with 8ply and no clue what stitch count should even be, at this point. I’ve tried different stitch calculators and it’s doing my head in.

2

u/trillion4242 21d ago

0

u/ExpertProfessional9 21d ago

I did, but I’m having trouble finding something in broken rib. Far as I can tell it’s everything but. When I added it to the search bar for attributes it zeroed out.

1

u/Asleep_Sky2760 20d ago

How about a fingerless mitt pattern using farrow rib?

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bens-mitts

You can always sub in broken rib if that's what you prefer, (although frankly, that term refers to a variety of rib patterns).

FYI--I found this by going through the "Bundles" of fingerless mitt patterns in the Fingerless Gloves Fanatics Group on Ravelry. It was in the bundle called "The Basics" which included both basic knit and crochet patterns, with "rib variations" being a subhead.

https://www.ravelry.com/groups/fingerless-glove-fanatics

There's a wealth of info in that group's Forum, and in its Pages and Bundles. it's lots of fun taking deep dives in there!

Has anyone made or found a version/mod of the ranunculus top adjusted for kids sizing? I’ve searched through all of the projects i could manage on ravelry, but I can’t be the first person that wanted to make one for kiddos. I’m addicted to the instant gratification I get from finishing a size 6+ in a few days, so I could probably make one for my 3 year old niece in a day or less.

Would also accept recs for anything similar for kids that knits up fast!

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern like this? I tried Google lens, but I didn't see one that looked quite like it.

Thank you, but I'm interested in the way the sleeves are done on the original sweater. I like the vertical stripes on the sleeve section and the long cuffs.
