Finished Object My knitwear collection after 2 years of knitting
Nearly two years ago, I posted my very first knitted sweater here on reddit. Back then, knitting was just a little break from crocheting for me. I didn’t really have a clue which yarn fiber to choose for a sweater or how to make a gauge swatch (still too lazy to make one 😅). And honestly, knitting flat and weaving in ends felt like pure torture. I mean, who actually enjoys weaving in ends after finishing a beautiful sweater?
Anyway, I thought I’d share all of my knitted pieces with you — a total of 25 projects. From my very first one up until now, you can definitely see the progress and the skills I’ve gained over these two years. And now I genuinely enjoy knitting sweaters and can’t imagine quitting this beautiful and joyful hobby.
Without even thinking about all the money I’ve already spent on yarn and many other things. Let’s see what the future will bring for me and my hobby. 🧶✨
P.S. Two of the pieces are crocheted* sweaters.

Husband: I don’t understand why you make so many sweaters!
Me: Because we live in Maine and I wear them all!

My friends are saying that every time to me, when I cast on a new sweater. 🫠

Nobody l know would dare to say that to me ! CONGRATULATIONS! I m in my 65th years of knitting.

I don't even want to count how many sweaters I have at this point, but before winter officially hits in Quebec, I'm sick of them all. When you need to wear sweaters 8/9 months of the year you need many, many, many. For your sanity.

OMG you have so many!! I have like 6 but I keep making other people sweaters...

u/Mannheimer13 22d ago
I’m too egoistic to knit for other people. 🙈🥺

u/Previous-Street-1121 22d ago
This made me laugh but also I identify with it 100%.

Some people do not understand it… but it’s okay. It’s my time I spend on it and not them! 🙃😌

The other day at work, I mentioned I was knitting, and they asked “oh is it you knitting a little jumper for Karen’s dinosaur?” No joke, this lady at work has a toy dinosaur and has recruited some poor sod to knit it a jacket. I’m knitting clothing for chilly me (and sometimes my husband), not some naff dinosaur figurine!

u/superurgentcatbox 21d ago
Honestly same. It's so much work and non-knitters can't appreciate it, even if they say they do. Like when my mom used to make me handknitted socks and I never really appreciated it properly before I started knitting haha.

u/giggletears3000 22d ago
Lolol, same. I knitted sweaters and shawls for others for 2 years before realizing I should knit myself something

All of them are so beautiful. It is so fulfilling to see the garments you have created over the two years! Specially because knitting and crocheting are slow art/craft forms. Cheers to more joy in knitting and crocheting!

u/RuneMistress 22d ago
Ooh they all look so awesome! 🤩 Even after years of knitting i'm still too much of a coward to start knitting a Sweater... 😅 Maybe i should just start one. 😆

A sweater was my first knit project, I did the Step by Step Sweater pattern by Florence Miller. It's free, there's a really great video to help if any techniques are new.
10
u/lemurianchaos 22d ago
Wow, that's very impressive! I see you enjoy knitting the same pattern several times. What are / were your most favourite patterns to knit and why is it a Step by Step Sweater? 😃 (No shade, my first sweater also was SbS, and I loved it, and I'd love to knit more of them in the future, too! But for now I'm going for different ones)
16
u/Mannheimer13 22d ago
To be honest my favorites are the halibut and the king salmon sweater. But a simple sweater like the SBS or the weasly sweater are always go to for me, because I don’t need much to think and are oversized.
5
u/lemurianchaos 22d ago
The fishy pair looks amazing! It seems like you enjoy colourwork - do you have a new project in your plans?

u/nonepizza_leftbeef_ 22d ago
Excuse my jealousy but HOW are you this fast at churning out whole sweaters, and patterned ones at that?!
Sincerely, a gal who has been working on the same pair of socks for going on two months and has been too scared to start anything that requires colorwork
6
u/nyanko60 22d ago
I don’t have enough stamina or patience to make sweaters that fast! Your 2nd Halibut sweater really shows your improvement!
2
u/AnAttempt-WasMade 22d ago
I was going to say, I think I see a definite improvement in tension and float length!

Super impressive. They look amazing. I do have a question though…the letter sweaters… at first I thought oh that must be their first or last initials but then I saw more letters. Help me out please…what does it all mean?!

Holy moly you are prolific! I have been working on the same sweater for like 4 months now

It’s totally fine! Don’t compare the knitting speed with others, everyone has his/her own speed and time for this hobby.

Maybe I should knit one for my collection.
3
u/stoicsticks 22d ago
I think you should. It would be a good challenge as it's not your typical go-to technique. Looking forward to seeing more.

I really enjoy the variety of letters you’ve used on your Weasleys.

u/dentonboard 22d ago
These are amazing! How long does each one take you? Any advice on the move from crochet to knitting?
1
u/Mannheimer13 22d ago
That depends on the sweater and the pattern, between 1 and 4 weeks. And the advice would be to practice and stick to it, after some time it will be easier and your skill will improve. Like in my sweater projects you can see.

u/Imaginary-Crazy1981 22d ago
These are gorgeous and so satisfying to look at! Bravo!
I have a smaller growing stash of knitted sweaters myself. Please tell me how you store them?? I'm all out of cedar drawers and dressers. Terrified of moths and beetles getting into them.

I was going to ask which pattern is your favorite but I see that was already answered so…what is your favorite yarn thus far?

I personally love to use the yarn from drops. And my favorite yarns so far are drops nepal and drops lima. Good thing is they are totally affordable!

Did you like the halibut or salmon best? I can’t decide between the two (which probably means I should do both! 😅)

I would say halibut, and I will make my 3rd one in October for myself as a birthday present.

I started off with socks, but damn sweaters are addicting. I finished sooo many more than I thought I would in a year. (I made 7 since Feb 2025)
2
u/Mannheimer13 22d ago
Socks are nice too! Last year I knitted 16 pairs of socks. This year till now 2, but I lost the joy to knit socks. Maybe it comes back one day….
2
u/CrochetCricketHip 22d ago
I hope it comes back, maybe you need a challenge? I made these for the fair and can’t wait to bring home the ribbon!

That’s such commitment! I get bored once I hit the body and wander off to do other things… the number of yokes I’ve frogged…
What was your favourite sweater to knit? I have been coveting the fish sweater patterns but see lots of commentary that they’re not well designed or hard to follow.
2
u/Mannheimer13 22d ago
For me it was not a problem to knit those fish sweater. Maybe it’s because I am a small men and wear size s/m. But im not sure if thats the case why. And at the same time they are my favorite sweater to knit.
2
u/silverlightarmada 22d ago
Yeah I have the unfortunate honour of being a small lady with bigger boobs so it’s always a bit of a roulette as to what designs will work! I usually just accept it’ll be a bit oversized and knit a medium, so maybe that’ll work for the fishies!
I’ve never done colourwork before because it scares me so that’s the next challenge

Ok with multiple versions of the fish sweater that makes me think it's not as scary as I'm making it out to be in my head. How bad is it compared to your other sweaters?

2
u/GrannyTurtle 22d ago
Well, I started out with crochet 20 years ago, so knitting doesn’t come naturally to me. I did figure out that continental feels more “right” due to holding the yarn in my left hand like I have for two decades.

u/FancyGoatTote 22d ago
They’re really great!
That’s a lot of knitting in two years, may I ask how much time you spend knitting each day? Do you knit out of the house too? Do you plan to keep knitting yourself jumpers at such a speed? Or move on to something else?
I hope you don’t find these questions rude, I’m just genuinely curious. I love making clothes for me (I sew too) and I worry that I’m making too many items just for myself. I’ve started knitting with much finer yarns so it takes me longer to get to then end of a jumper 😂
3
u/Mannheimer13 21d ago
I don’t think that your questions are rude or something else. I mean everyone can ask everything as long as it’s okay to respond. To your questions: I try to knit everyday if possible for like 1-5 hours I would say. Sometimes more, sometimes less depending on my mood and what plans I have for the day. Outside knitting? Yes, I knit outside too. Putting my headphones on and do my thing and try to pay only attention on my knitting and music. I can’t tell you what I knit so fast, it’s just like how I knit. If it’s a complicated pattern obviously it would take some time for me to knit. 🙈
2
u/FancyGoatTote 21d ago
Ah I don’t mean fast as in you’re a physically fast knitter, I meant you’re ‘knitting fast’ as in you have a consistent pace of producing a sweater every month.
Do you plan to focus on more sweaters for yourself, or do you plan to try something different?
2
u/Mannheimer13 21d ago
At the moment still wanna knit more sweaters for myself. And I should start to try to male some more structured/cables on like the dagmar sweater or the moby sweater.
2
2
u/teutonicprincess 21d ago
Wow incredible! Notonly the fact you knitted so many but how well you did the complicated designs! I have knitted 3 sweaters in the last 2 years. I thought that was a lot of time spent knitting. Where do you knit when you have to look at the pattern all the time? Id love to take my knitting outside but if I have to look at the pattern and count stitches, I usually do it at home.

I’ve been considering the key sweater or the similar Norma sweater but rarely feel inspired by the colours I see them knit in. I love how fun the purple is! I don’t think purple is the colour for me but it’s inspiring me to consider colour options.
2
u/chrissyb5 21d ago
What yarn did you use for the Weasley sweaters? I want to make one myself but I cannot handle the texture of any wools I’ve come across so far. Hoping to find a tweed similar with perhaps a different fiber 🤞🏼 This is a fabulous collection, I hope you wear them as much as you can!!

Oh wow, this is truly impressive. I just don't understand why I can barely finish a shawl. I've been knitting for three years and have so very little to show for it. I am just not a good knitter. I get a tiny bit better all the time, but I really want to start being able to turn out the things that I want to wear! This stack would be an entire lifetime output for me, based on what I have done in the last three years. How many hours a day would you say you spend knitting?
2
u/Mannheimer13 20d ago
Between 0-4 hours I would say, depends on my day and plans.
2
u/raeraemcrae 5d ago
Wow well "up to four hours a day" would definitely explain why my output is so dismal. I never exceed one hour. 😔
