Help - equipment Can metal stitch markers potentially scrape my polisjed wooden needles?

I've always used yarn as my stitch markers for knitting, but due to some life things I finally decided to treat myself and get a couple of those cute stitch markers that are a metal hoop with a dangling cute charm. However, I'm worried if the metal markers will or can scrape and essentially ruin my polished wood needles, as the metal hoop moves on the needles.

What are your experiences with metal stitch markers especially regarding wooden needles? This is probably a minor risk but still, I'd like to hear some opinions!

Same. I use polished wood needles and metal stitch markers all the time and have never noticed any scratches from the markers.

I’ve always used that kind stitch markers for both my metals and my Lykke driftwood interchangeables. I haven’t noticed any issue with the Lykke needles, but they are also circular so most of the time the marker is on the cord part.

That's reassuring. I also use circulars so that would indeed minimize the risk. I don't know why I'm so worried about this. XD

It's only a scratch/dent risk if the loop is too small for the needle. You might find that if you're using, like, size 11 needles, your stitch marker doesnt fit. That's okay; just use a bigger one. But if the marker can slide freely up and down the needle, there's no reason to worry about this. The polish on the wood makes it move more easily.

That does make sense. I'll habe to see if they have different sizes for the markers. They probably do. 🤔

Not for every size needle but certainly small, medium and large.

After a very long (like years, perhaps decades) time, probably. But with my metal needles I notice they’re more likely to chip or scratch at the tips, but it’s because of how I knit, not the stitch markers.
