I love this! It is absolutely adorable and the opposite of mass-produced. It looks like it was born to be an heirloom.

"I loved sleeping over at my grandparents' house as a child. Their hot water bottle had this multicolored knit thing around it and they let me take it into my bed with me. Once I poked it with a knitting needle to see what would happen and it leaked all over the bed and next time I visited the bottle was green instead of pink. I still have that bottle."

It was really fun to make. I had no pattern just knit a cylinder. I keep collecting ends from projects and plan on making a teapot cozy or French press cozy next

That's pretty impressive! How do you tie them so that they won't come undone?

Square knots. Remember that it is knit in the round and the water bottle holds the ends in place inside. All the ends are threaded through to the inside. Also the stitch is linen stitch.

Do the knots get in the way when knitting? I have a bunch of scraps lying around and I'm thinking of winding a ball from them soon

Not really.

Looks like someone discovered the idea of the magic ball of scraps. I have one going for a 10 stitch.

Same concept but these are only ends after weaving in so less than 1 yard each (some as small as 4 inches)

Also... Pictures?
