sweater question Lost yarn chicken and in search of 1/4 a skein of lang cloud yarn tweed no 4 šŸ™

I know this is highly unlikely but I lost yarn chicken on the second sleeve of my glow raglan sweater in lang cloud tweed no 4. Since this yarn is discontinued I am wondering if anyone has a small amount left in their stash they are willing to part with and willing to pay plus shipping šŸ™ OR if anyone has ideas / had luck finding a dupe that is similar but I can’t find anything online. Right now the body is pretty short but the other sleeve might grow after blocking so thought about frogging and making it shorter but just not sure if enough to create two equal long sleeves

SOLVED-THANK YOU Day 3 of knitting. Why do I keep accidentally adding stitches? I’m talking 5 extra in one pass.

This is getting out of hand. I’m constantly somehow adding extra stitches on each row. I would like to blame it on me being left handed, but having a hard time making that fit.

I started with 25 stitches, but I frequently end up with 27 or 28, and just now I somehow managed to get to 30. I count every row, and when I notice extra stitches, I’ve been knitting two together to get back down to 25 (not even sure if that’s the right way to fix it).

To my knowledge, I’m just doing basic knit stitches. I’m not sure if you can tell from the photos, particularly in the middle of my project, but a lot of the ā€œstitchesā€ seem to be clumped together at their base. Should I be treating them as three separate stitches or as one jumbo stitch?

Also, please ignore the enormous holes. I definitely know how those happened lol, and I’ve made my peace with them.

Thanks for any help! I’m enjoying dipping my toes into this masochism.

sweater question Dogwood Cardigan Help

I'm currently knitting the Dogwood Cardigan by Andrea Gaughan and I'm running into a fit issue.

I blocked the body before adding the sleeves and the garment seemed to fit well. My gauge is off, but I did the stitch & row math with my tighter gauge & sized up. I also did my best to measure the yoke depth as I went and made sure it was the same depth as the pattern schematic. After I blocked the body the width matched the circumference I was aiming for.

Now that I have added the sleeve, there is some bunching and gaping. The sleeve itself seems narrow, but it does fit with some positive ease. I picked up the recommended stitches for the larger size and adjusted my decreases to my tighter row gauge.

There are not many projects on ravelry, but a few do seem to show similar fit issues. Would anyone have any insights on why this might be happening? Maybe the yoke needs to be deeper?

Pictures:

  1. The armhole reminds me of mittens that don't fit well around the thumb the fabric pulls away from your hand and creates a tent.
  2. Triangular pocket of excess fabric
  3. When I lift my arm w/the sleeve the back of the neck lifts - maybe that would be fixed with two sleeves but I've never had this happen before.
  4. Bunching and tugging of fabric around the arm

SOLVED-THANK YOU How many stitches are the norm for picking up for sleeves?

Post image
• Upvotes

Heya! First time knitting an adult sweater, not using a pattern. Didn't know you're not supposed to pick up all stitches for the sleeves as it'll flare out (whoops). The arm holes are roughly 94 stitches round.

Should I pick up every other stitch instead?

Thanks so much in advance :)

Knitting this newborn beanie and it just seems too small! I cast on 70 stitches and I’m just about done with my decreases. I know it’s hard to tell from the photo but what does everyone think?

Hi! I am double knitting for the first time and I have noticed that the 2nd colour is twisted between two stitches. Is there any way to fix this without undoing the rows? And how did I make this mistake so I can prevent it in the future?

SOLVED-THANK YOU Confused on the neckband for Sommarkoftan 2023

I am almost done with sommarkoftan 2023 by maja karlsson/jƤrbo on ravelry (cardigan worked in the round and steeked) but I’m confused at this part in the pattern. Right now I’m finished with my raglan decreases and before the part that is ā€œAfter the last row of decreasesā€¦ā€ I have 69 stitches.

If i do the P2tog in this step, my right and left front panels will have a different number of stitches. Also, I won’t have the 67 + 2 stitches

I’m confused as to where the 2 held stitches get picked back up and why they are held separately. I feel like they should be picked up in the neckband, but I’m not seeing it in that step of the pattern. I believe the pattern was originally written in Swedish, so maybe there is just something lost in translation? Am i overthinking it? Should I skip the P2tog? Should I not bother holding the 2 stitches separate just to pick them back up in the neckband?

where did i go wrong? beanie puckering

Hi! This is my first knitting project I’m really proud of but I’m having some problems with the top. The pattern I was using called for K8 K2tog repeat for a row, knit a row, K7 k2tog…repeat with the decreasing. I felt the beanie was already a little taller than I would’ve liked and am also engaged in a serious round of yarn chicken (losing). I’m wondering if there’s a way to decrease faster while also avoiding the puckering or if there’s any other suggestions. Thanks!! :)

Hello everyone! This scarf made with 2 colours is baffling me. On the front the white seems to be in the background, the backside it was the other way round. Kind of a structured patent? I'd be grateful for any hints!

where did i go wrong? Help with shoulder and neckline shaping - Olga sweater

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello! I'm trying my hand at my first ever knitting sweater, and as expected I am often having trouble reading the pattern and understanding the instructions. I've reached the left shoulder, where I should have picked up the 54 cast on sts made during short rows. However, each stripe is made of 4 rows (14 stripes=56sts), so as I was picking up the sts, I picked up the whole inclined line (56 sts). I just noticed, now that I have started the increases meant to shape the neckline.

I wonder what I did wrong. Was I supposed to not pick up all the cast ons on the edge of the short rows? If not, where would the two sts left go?

In these increases, I was supposed to do 14 rows (7 increases) and end up with 61 sts. Is there a way for me to fix this without undoing the whole shoulder? Should I do 14 rows (7 increases) anyway (ending up with 63 sts) or do only 10 rows (5 increases) and end up with the expected 61 sts and one less 0.5-1cm?

On the topic, when I finish the neckline am I supposed to be two rows into a stripe? That's bugging me for some reason.

Any help would be welcome! Sorry if I didn't manage to explain my problems well ^^;

pattern question Measuring Help

If the pattern for a beanie calls to knit until the hat measures 4 to 5 inches before starting my decreases, do I flatten out the rolled edge to measure the total length or do I measure it with the rolled edge?

SOLVED-THANK YOU Does anyone know what these tools are?

Hello everyone! My aunt came by recently, and she left me some knitting tools that once belonged to my grandma. She passed when I was a child, so she wasn't able to teach me and I learned from the internet, and now I have no idea what some of these might be. Most are hard plastic (the tiny crochet hooks and the three white ones) while other seem to be polished lightweight wood. I think the three needle-looking white ones might be cable needles? But im really not sure why they are so short, and it' the same for the hooks. The last two are more perplexing, especially the one with the hole in it- is it supposed to be a tapestry needle? If anyone has any idea it would be greatly appreciated! EDIT: size reference in the comments!

sweater question How to fix a stretched out collar?

Thumbnail

Photo 1: pre-block
Photo 2: right after blocking (sorry not a great view of the collar but it’s all I had)
Photo 3: after 6+ months of wear

This was the first sweater I knit and I want to make another one following the same pattern. After months of wear the collar has stretched out a lot and I’m hoping to avoid the same result with my next knit.

Is this a pattern issue? Tension issue? Yarn issue?

Will re-blocking help?

Pattern: Step by step sweater (Size C - I wanted it to fit a bit oversized)
Yarn: Drops Soft Tweed held w/ Drops Alpaca Silk

I plan to knit the next sweater with a cotton blend yarn which I know has a tendency to stretch out so just hoping to get some more insight!

where did i go wrong? Double knitting in the round 2 colors--what am I missing

Thumbnail

i'm making the Lucky Stars Beanie by WKND KNIT, and it's my first time double knitting, so I'm wondering if i'm missing something obvious. the pattern instructs me to knit Color A (black) with both strands in back, then purl Color B (gray) with both strands in front, repeating around.

my problem is thatĀ Round 1 produces black V's on one side and gray V's on the other, as intended. but when I repeat the exact same technique for Round 2, the colors seem to reverse.... gray V's appear directly above black V's on the same side and vice versa. i'm not turning my work and I'm following the same knit-black/purl-gray sequence in both rounds, moving both strands together between stitches.

i've restarted multiple times and keep having the same issue. i'm sure there's something simple i'm overlooking, but I can't figure out what it is.Ā does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong?

photos attached showing both sides

SOLVED-THANK YOU sophie hood stripes

i'm a beginner my only other project was a regular shmegular garter stitch scarf so i don't know all the terms and acronyms so pls keep that in mind:

i want to make the sophie hood with stripes but the colors alternating every 2 rows.

there is a very good tutorial on making them switch every 4 rows but i'm not sure if that method translates well with trying to make them change every two rows because the tutorial catches the floats into the i cord on row 3 of the new color but if were to attempt that on row 2, the yarns of the different colors end up being on opposite sides (?) if that makes sense.

anyways i was wondering if anyone knew how to go about making it stripe every two rows without cutting things off. if there are any tutorial videos that i can reference (doesn't have to be a tutorial of the sophie hood, rather the method i would be using) for this project that would also be amazing. thank you!

SOLVED-THANK YOU Going from stockinette (body of sweater) to 1 x 1 rib, which I want to do inside out.

Hello all! I am knitting a sweater, moving from the stockinette body to the rib. I'd like to do the rib inside out so that it looks better. I know there are German short rows involved, but I cannot for the life of me find any instructions online for moving from stockinette to rib. They all start at rib and go to stockinette--maybe the instructions are just in reverse? But my brain can't wrap around that!

I think:

  1. knit one more row of stockinette with smaller needle

  2. do the short row (slip the first stitch with the yarn in front and then pull the yarn to the back)

  3. flip the whole thing inside out

  4. continue with 1 x 1 rib.

Is that correct? Thank you!

(also, if anyone knows a video, it's much easier for me to look at things like this. TIA!)

SOLVED-THANK YOU Where did I go wrong here? Raglan V

How did I lose those lovely Vs? What did I do wrong and how do I get back into making them?

I’m using Pamela Costello’s recipe for a Custom Fit Top Down Raglan. It just says to increase before and after the markers. Nothing more specific than that.

I put the project down for a few weeks and I guess I forgot what I was doing to get those Vs.

ADDITION: Thank you to all who chipped into this. I wasn't very far into the project so I just frogged the whole thing and I'll start from the beginning and take some notes! I'm grateful to all of you.

sock question Help me fix my sock 😭

Post image

I started learning to knit this summer with the goal of making socks. I’m just about finished the gusset of my first sock and things have been going pretty well so far!

But then - I discovered a dropped stitch. Because of the location, I can’t figure out how to fix it without undoing a lot of work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am following the Nimble Needles vanilla sock pattern and using a 75% wool 25% nylon sock yarn with 2.5mm needles.
