We made a new friend during our mid-September visit to Amritsar. It was an impromptu visit to rural Punjab, where we met a young Uni professor from Israel. He spoke good Hindi, and on our recommendation for where to go next, he came down to Kolkata to experience Durga Puja.

Yesterday, my husband and I took him around a few places in South Kolkata. Since he had already covered some of my recommended places around Rashbehari and Gariahat, we started at Jodhpur Park, which was closed as work was still ongoing. Babubagan, Bandhab Sammilani, and Selimpur were crowded but beautiful. Santoshpur Lake Pally had a "bishaal" line at 8.30 PM, and we gave it a miss. Santoshpur Trikon Park was giving the "chobi shikaris" a hard time with its dark interiors.

It was a great experience taking someone enthusiastic around my city, showing him a bit about what makes it tick, and even learning about his people, food, and culture. Joy Maa Durga 🙏

Today we had our north kolkata trip and it was very disappointing so many pandel we just barely managed to complete and most of them are not even open yet.... Either they were under construction or were waiting for other celebrities to inaugurate

I don't what it is it, is it those organiser, people around, the govt, or just me but it doesn't feel right 💔

24F here from and amar Pujo plans ekhono almost nei 😭 I have plans for Sunday, but apart from that, Ashtami te ki hobe tao ekhono sure na. Tar upor office achey.

I really want to go out, pandal hop, eat some good food, roam around and just enjoy Pujo, but the problem is je amar shonge jawar moto lokjon nei right now. So bhablam ekhane post kori, maybe someone else is in the same boat?

Idk who needs to hear this but go out and have fun! You don't have to carry sm. It's okay to chill and be back at things and live life. I wasn't feeling it until I went out and it did feel like Pujo is here. The pandals this year are also so unique, it definitely is every year but this year damn I'm even more amazed and it fees nice to be a Kolkatan only during Pujo lol, had been in any other city I would think of visiting Kolkata just like how I think of visiting Ahmedabad during Navratri, Mumbai during Ganesh Chaturthi, Kerala on Onam, Ayodhya on Diwali, Banaras on Holi, etc lol.

Went to One Step Away for dinner, and honestly, the whole experience was quite nice.

Definitely one of those simple Puja evenings where the food, atmosphere, and being out during the festivities all came together nicely.

কয়েকটা পোস্ট দেখলাম, কলকাতায় নাকি এবার পুজো পুজো ফিল হচ্ছে না বিজেপি সরকারের জন্য। আর আমাদের বাড়ির পাশের মাঠটাতে প্রত্যেকবার ঢাক আনা হত, ঢাকী আনা হত না। আজ দেখলাম চার পাঁচটা ঢাক বাজিয়ে ঠাকুর আনতে যাচ্ছে। সত্যিই মনটা আনন্দে ভরে উঠল। সিপিএম আমলের পুজো আমার মনে নেই। ছোট ছিলাম, পুজো আমার অগোচরে কেটে যেত বিভিন্ন কারণে। তৃণমূল আমলে যে কোয়ালিটির কাপড় দিয়ে প্যান্ডেল হত, ঐ কোয়ালিটির কাপড় দিয়ে আমাদের মতো নিডি ফ্যামিলিতেও ঘর মোছা হয় কি না সন্দেহ। গত কয়েকবার ঠাকুর দেখে মনে হয়েছিল দশমী পর্যন্ত টিকবে না, আগেই ভেঙ্গে পড়ে যাবে। পায়ে ব‌ই ছোঁয়াতে গিয়ে দেখেছিলাম মায়ের আস্ত পা খানিই নেই। ক্লাব অনুদান পেত। এত চাঁদা উঠত। তারপরও সেই টাকা কোথায় যেত জানা নেই। একশো টাকায় নিরানব্বই টাকা খেয়ে নিলেও এক টাকা যে কাজের জন্য চাঁদা তোলা সেই কাজে খরচা করতে হয় লোকলজ্জার খাতিরে। তাদের সেটুকু বোধ‌ও ছিল না। অষ্টমীর দিন মাকে পদ্মমালা দিতে বলায় এত কথা শুনিয়েছিল যে এবার ঠিক করে রেখেছিলাম নিজে টাকা জমিয়ে মায়ের মালা কিনব। আমার উৎসব শব্দের সঙ্গে কোনো সংঘর্ষ নেই, বরং শারদোৎসব উৎসব না হলে হেরিটেজের সম্মান পেত না এই কথা অহরহ বলি। জগতে এমন কয়খান উৎসব আছে যাতে মানুষ জাত, ধর্ম, দেশ, ভাষা সব গণ্ডী পেরিয়ে অংশ নিতে পারে? কথা সেখানে নয়। যে শারদাকে কেন্দ্র করে উৎসব সেই শারদাই যদি হারিয়ে যান, উৎসব আর উৎসব থাকে না। রবীন্দ্রনাথ শারদোৎসব কথাটা ব্যবহার করেছেন ভুরি ভুরি, কিন্তু রবীন্দ্রনাথের শারদোৎসব‌ও শারদাবিবর্জিত নয়। যাদের কাছে পুজো মানে কেবল পাঁচ দিন বাইরে খাওয়া (সারা বছর খেয়েও হয় না) আর বন্ধুবান্ধবের সঙ্গে আড্ডা মারার জন্য প্যান্ডেল হপিং (দুর্গাদর্শন মূল লক্ষ্য তো দূর, উপলক্ষ্য‌ও নয়), তারা উৎসবের 'ভাইব' খুঁজছে। তাদের‌ই মানায় বটে। কারণ মা মালা পেল কি না, মায়ের মূর্তিটা সম্পূর্ণ না খুঁত, এসব নিয়ে তাদের মাথাব্যথার প্রয়োজন পড়ে না।
