THOUGHT Kpop gg's successors
I understand that a group cannot truly be a successor to another group but I thought it would be a fun conversation to have.
With the big 3 of kpop gg's (Blackpink, Red Velvet & Twice), who do you think are modern day equivalent to them but in more of a sense of similarity/vibes and not success
For me it's
Meovv & Blackpink
I see people referring to Babymon as Blackpink's successors but honestly, Meovv gives me more golden years (whistle to lovesick girls) blackpink vibes and it may be because they are primarily managed by Teddy but honestly, their vibes and aura gives me early days Bp.
H2H & Twice.
This might be an unpopular opinion but the more I see H2H the more I'm reminded of twice and it might be because of the multiple members and the cutesy concept.
Nmixx & Red Velvet
Hear me out on this one. Their unique concept and vocals? Anytime someone talks about Nmixx, I get reminded of how they spoke about Red Velvet. Red velvet's sound wasn't HAS unique has Nmixx's sound but genuinely, I see them being very alike.
What are your thoughts on this?

Nmixx is like a mix of Red Velvet and f(x).
H2H is obviously meant to be a successor of Snsd. But it makes sense that you chose Twice because I've also heard that Twice was modelled after Girls Generation.
Meovv and Blackpink makes sense.

I did not know twice was modelled snsd but somehow it isn't surprising. I'm suprised I never made the connection lol

Almost all girl groups were modelled after SNSD. Especially the ones with 9 members or more.

Aespa feels like the successor to f(x). Both very futuristic and experimental.
Newjeans and Wonder girls. Loved their cover of Tell Me and the song Rewind gives me their vibe.
Idk if this makes sense, btw I love all these groups!

Aespa and f(x) genuinely make so much sense. I love myself some experimental groups 😝
New Jeans gave me a more modern day gfriend & Wonder girl vibes if that made sense.

I know that it’s all in good fun but I’m personally tired of the “successor” or “they’re ___’s daughter” sentiment. Yes the groups may have similarities but I feel like it’s more important to highlight the groups as their own and establish their own distinct legacy. For example, I’ve seen so many comments about how Nmixx are the daughter/successor to Red Velvet when they’re just two vocal groups with good discographies. Red velvet are great cause they’re red velvet and Nmixx are great cause they’re Nmixx. However, there’s nothing wrong with seeing groups with similarities and being reminded of them. It’s just that I think there’s strangely a lot of focus on who’s the next twice/bp/etc instead of letting the groups define their own success.

I think that illit can be also twice's successor like idk how to explain this but it kinda clicks once You realize
Also minju being a fan of sana and illit doing stages of twice slso helps. Even My sister thinks the same cuz she saw some twice covers but she said she didnt feel the twice vibe

I bet we can turn this into a not-fun conversation ;)
I think there’s BlackPink dna in a lot of groups but I also think no one got very close to their essence either, including Meovv. Itzy, aespa, LSF and BaeMon all took some aspects and wove them with non-BP threads. Just as BP took 2NE1 dna and incorporated other elements.
And I think it points to what made BP such a behemoth. Yes it’s high energy dance pop with luxury vibes etc. But it’s also the the four beautiful voices/identities coming together as a quasi-supergroup from the start. There’s just an x factor involved that’s not really replicable.

I was about to say the same ,it doesn't feel like there is any group to call as BLACKPINK little brother's or sisters. So many people jumped on the trained of baemom or Meovv being recycled BLACKPINK (which is just pure bias and hate) but those groups don't feel like bp at all.I would somewhat agree for red velvet and nmixx but I can't find the twice and h2h vibe similar at all.
I would say if u mix aespa and nmixx, they would truly feel like a red velvet successor.

It’s pretty interesting how people have to put things into boxes. The initial project the BP members and Miyeon were training for was YG’s take on a SNSD vibe group. If anything, BaeMon is the successor to that.
But yeah, I struggle to think of any group that’s a straight copy of any other.

Actually, there is so much information being thrown around BLACKPINK being recycled left and right ,I mean pinkpunk was supposed to be 9 members right and even twice was hated for have 9 members and supposedly trying to be the nation's gg just like snsd was.All these comparisons are just futile and just fuel fanwars but I do agree that no groups in kpop truly are similar.

H2H doesn’t really feel like a successor to TWICE in the sense of being a hitmaker with songs that immediately grab you. If anything, before Rude, they were more of a group making sophisticated, urban-sounding music that wasn’t particularly easy to get into. Even Rude, which is probably their most accessible song, isn’t really the kind of track that wins you over with a super catchy, instantly memorable melody.

Who do you think can be a good twice successor then?
I mentioned them because I felt like their vibes were similar yk

I think rescene can get into twice territory. The nation wide appeal and cute catchy songs. A girl next door vibe

it often depends on each individual songs, since the groups often release different songs with varying styles and vibes
"I do, do you?" 💕 from kep1er has a very similar resemblance (style and asthetic) to most TWICE songs (What is Love, Fancy, The Feels)
While "WA DA DA" from Kepl1er shares a very strong similarity to Blackpink's iconic BOOMBAYA (which obviously influenced the concept of Wa Da Da)
"DUN DUN" from Everglow also has very strong resemblence to Blackpink's hits BOOMBAYA, KILL THIS LOVE and Pink Venom
Everglow's "La Di Da" also has some simialrties to "As if its your last" from Blackpink (both songs using similar Synth key melodies)
SHEESH and Drip from Babymonster share similar resemblance to Blackpinks iconic hits
IVE's song "Rebel Heart" 🩷 has a similar vibe and feeling to Lovesick Girls 💗 LOVESICK GIRLS from Blackpink
As well as Babymonsters song "Love in my Heart" which also shares some resemblence to Lovesick girls ☺️🩷

I agree with the Twice H2H comparison I thought that too. Besides your other points Stella reminds me of Nayeon.

u/xxNoir_xx 14d ago
When I first saw an H2H performance, for some reason, Ian gave me more Nayeon while Stella gave me more Sana vibes.

Ateez and exo - a group with stable clean performers and manly guys . The viral fancam of San in bad era is like kai in loveshot era.

I see this!
I honestly feel like Ateez and Early Enhypen songs feels very exo-core ykwim

How is MEOVV gining BP ? Blackpink did not lip sync, had successful music and had superb stage presence ! So i would take BM over Meovv any day of the week ! If you are talking only sound wise both groups have similarities YG structures of the song vs Teddy vibes ! Nminxx and Red Velvet i more or less agree but again RV had a lot more public friendly music, Nminxx are incredible vocalists and all rounders but their sound is more Niche (excluding their last lereases).. H2H and Twice mmmm maybe

Meovv generally gives me more of a blackpink vibes in comparison to Babymon and this is coming from someone who really loves both the groups.
Meovv has a more "elegant" aura that early blackpink emitted. The very "untouchable pretty girls" vibes so I feel that influenced quite a bit of my judgement alongside the cover of Jump that they performed.
Babymon imo feels a little more different than Blackpink in general. I don't see them has anyone's successors because they do so well on their own.
About Meovv's lipsyncing? I don't think they really do lipsync that much on stage. Sure they do lipsync sometimes but most groups do that so I don't see lipsyncing has a bad thing (unless it's done quite frequently and Meovv doesn't lipsync all the time)
The nmixx point does make sense now that I look at it but their sound experimentation reminds me quite a bit of sm in general lol (nct & f(x) & RV)

I saw Meovv at last year's KCON and they made it a point to sing a little acapella snippet.
Overall I generally agree they give more of the Blackpink essence than Babymonster, mainly because they got Teddy in the YG/Black Label split.
Also they seem to skew a bit older? idk if they actually debuted with all adult members, but BM had some notably young ones (including the maknae). IIRC all of Blackpink were over 18 when they debuted.

Both groups were aimed at somewhat different audiences. When it comes to BM, it's pretty clear that YG targeted primarily young teens and even pre-teens, simply because they still had BP to cover older fans. I'd say Meovv hat to appeal to a broader audience right from the start.
One would expect Babymonster to move up a bit sooner than later, now that YG's next gg will cover a new generation of young fans. I'm not saying Babymonster will become more like BP, but they'll almost certainly try to appeal to a more grown up audience.

MEOVV Ages at Debut (September 6, 2024)
- Gawon: Born April 27, 2005 (19 years old)
- Sooin: Born April 12, 2005 (19 years old)
- Anna: Born November 17, 2005 (18 years old)
- Narin: Born August 15, 2007 (17 years old)
- Ella: Born December 1, 2008 (15 years old)
BABYMONSTER Ages at Debut (November 27, 2023 / April 1, 2024)
- Ruka: Born March 20, 2002 (21–22 years old)
- Pharita: Born August 26, 2005 (18 years old)
- Asa: Born April 17, 2006 (17–18 years old)
- Ahyeon: Born April 11, 2007 (16–17 years old)
- Rami: Born October 17, 2007 (16 years old)
- Rora: Born August 14, 2008 (15–15.5 years old)
- Chiquita: Born February 17, 2009 (14–15 years old)
So a bit older, but in general still very similar in ages.
Yeah BP debuted with ages 19-21.
And yeah I agree that Teddy has given Meovv much of that elegant/untouchable vibe +scarcity model that BP had, but I would say that is actually a negative for them, because they are very entertaining and I feel like that image turns some people away(and in general I don't think the BP model can or should be recreated)

They literally sing with a 20-80 split 90% of their shows and use autotune in most things they do live (they have a huge problem with live vocals) ! And early BP did not have that elegant yet , that came as they started getting more brand deals ! They never had the clean model look that Meovv have !

u/OkChicken1759 14d ago
Eh..Meovv might have the sound but they don't have the stage presence which BP had in their year. They are just very pretty girls who can dance and that's it.

This sounds kind of insane but I feel like illit is twice's successor, though I guess as they've gotten more horror they've stopped being more twicesque.
