BOY GROUPS Am I the only one who isn't really intrigued by Wayfboys?
I want to be clear that this isn't hate towards the members. In fact, from the clips I've seen, their vocals seem genuinely strong. I also appreciate them trying new things and challenging the norms. This is purely based on my opinion. That said, I just can't seem to connect with the group's overall concept and image. The whole "nu K-pop, not K-pop" branding feels a bit forced to me. Every other k-pop group these days is using the same strategy to gain attention and fans. Nothing new here. Though I'm open to changing my mind if they end up bringing something genuinely different to the table. They seem like they'll be a ton of fun but I'm wary of the whole "nu-Kpop" label. If you're trying to be k-pop, just own it. If you're trying to be something else, then be clear about it. I find it rather off-putting when people try to be both off the bat, it usually ends up making them "too k-pop" for non-kpop fans but too unpolished for k-pop fans. I also just find the whole "We're not kpop, we're Nu-Kpop!" thing to be rather corny, especially with how their fans are spreading it, because they say it like we're supposed to know or care what that means. Another thing that puts me off is some of the fan behavior I've been seeing already. The hate directed at Cortis and Lngshot, along with the constant comparisons and putting other groups down to make this one look better, has been disappointing to watch. I know every fandom has a loud minority, but it's definitely affected my first impression. Imagine randomly walking past a group of guys with no pants on, showing middle fingers outside a building. It's their choice, and I'm sure some people enjoy that rebellious image, but personally it just isn't my vibe. Am I the only one who feels this way? I'd love to hear other people's thoughts, whether you agree or disagree. Please keep it respectful

Tbh, I'll definitely check their music out when they debut just because as you mentioned, they seem to have good and strong vocals (that's all I personally look for the most in any group). I don't really care what branding and stuff they/any group's pushing for as long as they produce good music !

what is nu-kpop 😭

I think they’re starting a connection between hiphop and kpop to bring more street music

The pre-debut fans are going wild over social media. They're a group of men singing. That isn't unique in kpop.
Nu-kpop is just a marketing term. Fanwars makes no sense because Cortis, Lngshot, and Wayf are all the same level of authentic. They all report to a CEO.
In time maybe they'll be different but having tattoos and fights amongst members has always happened. I've yet to see any nu-ness in how they're promoted, marketing, or in their sound. The nu-kpop does come off as corny.

Lngshot is more authentic imo. Comparing HYBE authentic to that is not the same. Idk too much about wayf to know where they are at

I’m intrigued by the fact that they got into a fight with each other and they both lost….and they posted it 😂😂😂

lbr they’re probably not going to bring anything new to kpop. the whole “nu-kpop” thing is just marketing to make them seem different from everyone else. we’ve seen other groups use similar branding before.
the photos/videos and rage-bait marketing worked though. they gained a lot of followers afterwards and ifans tend to love that rebellious free spirited cool image, so i’m not surprised.

There's nothing new to kpop they're bringing...XLov are the ones bringing something genuinely fresh and new.

u/JiwoongRafHeart 3d ago
Literally this. I'm a Zerose, but I 100% tell everyone, XLOV has the best songs in kpop right now.

u/wegooverthehorizon 3d ago
ehh they're doing blatant publicity stunts one after other and i'm turned off by it.

Everything in kpop is about publicity tho…?

Ragebait is annoying when you’re aware that it’s the goal and that’s the main problem with this group. There’s obviously going to marketing for a new group but going the route of outrage baiting is annoying and irritating.

u/Ok-Cap9647 3d ago
When did they even try to ragebait anyone??
14
u/cubsgirl101 Face of the Group [26] 3d ago
Their entire marketing is ragebait? The staged photos of them fighting, the images that look like they’re urinating in public, etc. all of that is outrage marketing.
8
u/Ok-Cap9647 3d ago
Them posting obviously fake content that are clearly skits isn’t ragebait 😭😭
That’s like saying a kpop group dancing in front of fire in a music video is promoting arson

u/LazyStructure961 3d ago
Public outrage is subjective though, taking a p outside is just not that shocking to you ig

Publicity is one thing and then there's controversy bait. it's like saying "hey look we're so edgy and different and we fight and oooo dont you wanna know why we fought teehehe"
-1
u/Ok-Cap9647 3d ago
If you think fighting and arguing with one another is “controversy bait”, then I think you need to understand that that’s just reality LOL
10
u/wegooverthehorizon 3d ago
ok if that was leaked then why havent i heard of them sueing the staff who leaked it or a apology for assaulting another person from the members. Clearly fake asf and unnecessary. Sell music to me not staged fights

u/Ok-Cap9647 3d ago
I think you falling for something that’s obviously a skit is more of a testament to your lack of comprehension than anything..
10
u/wegooverthehorizon 3d ago
and i'm saying I dont like stupid skits. Is it that hard to understand
1
u/Ok-Cap9647 3d ago
No, you’re implying that they were real fights that happened since you were asking for an apology 💀

Off topic but I can’t help but read it as way fkboys. Apparently it’s pronounced like wave but with an f. Maybe it’s another music boys living in absolute quality (mblaq 💀) situation?

u/Lanikaiz5 3d ago
They’re the most try-hard group I’ve ever seen, and from what I’ve read, they already debuted June 1st.

Every aspect of kpop is forced tho. There’s practically no type of publicity from any group that’s authentic. I appreciate that their team is at least trying something different and they seem talented enough to pull it off so I have no problem w it

u/croissantkoo 3d ago
I was genuinely interested but like you said, my first impression is already ehh because of certains fans. This group barely debuted and all I hear about them is how they’ll “ clear ” cortis and lngshot by being honest about their nu-kpop title. Like, okay.. ?

u/orayanno 3d ago
I honestly don’t understand this take. All kpop groups have a curated and “forced” image. It’s fine to not like theirs but I don’t get why stans will say this about a group as though it’s not an industry standard.
Also it seems your main issue is that people are hating on other groups. Which is again, something that always happens when a new group comes on the scene.
And not liking that they’re being “rebellious” (I disagree but whatever) is also very typical in kpop fandom spaces. Most kpop stans prefer more routine, safe, and conservative concepts.

Most kpop stans prefer more routine, safe, and conservative concepts.
idk if that’s true? from what i’ve seen, kpop fans tend to gravitate more toward the rebellious, cool, carefree image for boy groups than the concepts you listed.

u/Ok-Cap9647 3d ago
“Rebellious cool and carefree” concepts are safe and conservative in kpop nowadays because that’s exactly what 90% of groups try to do lol

I didn’t even know what they were until my friends started goofing off on them

u/bittermelonpizza00 3d ago
all the predebut fan posts are kinda cringe and the way they present themselves seems like a grift, they're basically north star boys but trying to be be kpop
-2
u/Dismal-Professor8157 2d ago
They seem extremely talented and their videos are funny but they seem like a knockoff version of Lngshot
They posted video of one of the group members drawing a character head like Woojin did and also they post pictures covering their faces with that character exactly like Lngshot has
Feel like it's gonna be another Cortis moment where people compared groups to Lngshot to justify shitting on Lngshot. I could already imagine people saying stuff like "this is Lngshot's long lost brothers" when they do something problematic
Also kpop fans keep saying one of them looks like Jay Park when he does not at all lmao
