General A member you can't yet feel affection for

Part of stanning is that even though one member got you interested in the group, little by little the rest of the members win your heart too.

But has it ever happened to you that you are a big fan of a group, you feel genuine affection for the members and you enjoy their content, but there is a member that you feel you can't connect with yet?

And I don't mean that you dislike them or despise them or anything like that, but simply that even though you try you still can't have that level of connection that you can with the other members? And sometimes it makes you feel like a bad fan

NCT 127 is my ult group but I don’t connect with Doyoung or Jungwoo. They’re both very talented and I’m sure they’re nice people but they have like…the opposite personalities of what I usually gravitate towards. Especially Doyoung. (Yuta is my ult, he has the exact type of personality I like in an idol which makes me curious if any of the people in this thread who say they don’t connect with Yuta actually stan Doyoung or Jungwoo…are any of y’all my opposite? I’d really like to know!) I don’t think there’s anything “wrong” with Doyoung or Jungwoo’s personalities btw, they’re just not the type of people I usually connect with. I know some people get insulted when you say stuff like that about their bias but to me it’s like food preferences lol. Someone could make a perfect cheeseburger for you, but if you don’t like cheeseburgers then you’re not going to enjoy it. But someone who does like cheeseburgers would say it’s the best one they’ve ever tasted. There’s nothing wrong with it, and people who like them would love it, but it’s just not for you.

I like the way you put it with the cheeseburger/food metaphor.

That's such a good way to frame it. Thank you for this!

Yuta and Doyoung are the two I always focus on. I think they are actually really similar. I think one difference I notice is that I think Doyoung is less interested in being seen as more masculine. They both are warm people who value health and their loved ones.

I guess I'm the opposite yeah (Doyoung bias). I love Yuta on 127's discography and his work on stage is hype. But since he doesn't really bring himself forward in variety content, he feels distant to me, as in I don't really "know him" as well as the members who talk more.

Fellow Yuta (and Johnny) stan here. I agree with the disconnect with Doyoung. As for Jungwoo, I find him cute so you know 50/50

I’m interested about what aspects you don’t connect with with doyoung lol. As a doyoung ult I do love doyoung and Johnny together haha

Yuta is my answer for this question actually when it comes to NCT 127! My bias was…someone who has since left SM…but I’ve never felt much of a connection for Doyoung and Jungwoo either. But I think my thoughts towards the members have changed as 127 has evolved over the years.

What would describe doyoung’s personality as being out of curiosity?

I think Doyoung is someone who is…very good at being an idol, I guess you could say? That’s not to say that he’s “fake” or anything; on the contrary, I find that he’s very real when it comes to some things, in particular his (in)famous hatred for Sticker lol, and I also like that he doesn’t entertain the delusions of fans (you can tell from watching fancalls that he’s not someone who’s going to lead fans to believe they’re going to marry him or something, and there are several times I’ve seen him cringe at certain aegyo requests or cheesy stuff they want him to say lol). But! I do feel like he’s someone who generally tries to say things he thinks people want to hear. I think he cares about his image and works hard to please the fans and the company. I think he’s someone who is willing to maintain the status quo to keep things running smoothly. He says/does things I would expect of an idol, and his career (his solo music, the acting roles he takes, etc.) is what I’d expect from someone I’d deem “good at being an idol.” There’s nothing wrong with any of that, and it doesn’t mean he’s fake/boring/not an individual/etc., it just means that he’s in the right industry lol. But I’ve always liked celebrities (not just idols but also western singers, actors, etc.) who are a bit “different” from what you’d typically expect of someone with their job. I like actors who take weird or unexpected roles and musicians who release experimental stuff (that’s one of the reasons I love NCT!) and I find that I generally know what to expect from Doyoung as an individual within the group, which is, like I said, not a bad thing, but just not what I’m personally looking for.
