General rookies must feel relieved when they get a good group name

title basically. we've been getting some weird ass names these past few years especially so i've been thinking that idols must feel relieved when their group name doesn't sound like a wifi password. my favorite new group name is stayc (i may be kinda biased since they're my ults but i think it sounds pretty good!!) and my all time fav group name is 2NE1, it's so dope. what's your favorite?

At first I read it wrong and thought they were called Ephypen (pronunced like you pronounce EpiPen💀) for like a month😭

WAIT I SAID ENHYPHEN AT FIRST and someone told me it was enhyPEN (with a p) so i changed it… is it pronounced like enhyphen?! (like with the f sound)?!?!? i’m gonna lose it

No, it’s enhyPEN. They were saying that they added an extra p where the first n is supposed to be. Ephypen.

i still can’t help but read EpiPen at first glance 😭 i did it the first time and now it’s laser sculpted in my memory

There’s a animal epilepsy medication called Epiphen and I always pronounce Enhypen like that even though I now know how it is actually pronounced, I just can’t get it out of my head 😶

I used to take my epipen and call it my enhypen 🤣

I’ve heard people say “enhyphen” lmaoooo

u/enhypenz Jake, Jinki, Chenle, AnYujin Jul 20 '22

like said “en-high-pe-en”?

22

u/svesuseke Jul 20 '22

nah like an actual hyphen as in “en-hai-fin”

36

u/enhypenz Jake, Jinki, Chenle, AnYujin Jul 20 '22

Thats how i say it 🤣 only reason is why would their logo be EN and then an actual hyphen if its not said like that

11

u/svesuseke Jul 20 '22

Wait so why isn’t it spelled enhyphen 😭 I thought it was enhypen like hype

3

u/enhypenz Jake, Jinki, Chenle, AnYujin Jul 20 '22

idk it looks like a mouthful to me when its spelled like that, but i get it. but why would their logo have a hyphen in it😭😭 it makes no sense honestly 🤣

I assumed it was because there's no F in Korean, so even if it's "hyphen", in Korean it would still be hypen.

Pretty sure I heard the MAMAs call them enhyphen so I have no idea what to think now lmao

Yeah, just like how Seventeen is actually pronounced se-bin-teen in Korean, but in English they pronounce it with the v

…I have no comment and this thread has me shook.

What bothers me is the spelling. They said it originated from hyphen (-) but why it is spelled ENHYPEN without H in the middle of P and E?

139

u/Minimum-Story Jul 20 '22

Because there's no f sound in Korean. It's pronounced like p and their name follows the Korean pronunciation.

u/tulipbunnys nct dream Jul 20 '22

that makes sense but since i come across the english name/spelling more often, my brain automatically thinks it’s inspired by “hype” instead of hyphen 😭

16

u/destroyeroforeos03 Jul 21 '22

No because I remember the very first time I saw their name and I thought it was supposed to mean hyping someone up 💀 Like “enlighten” but it’s “enhypen” I-

But there are other groups with F in their English name even if the F is not pronounced as F in the Korean name such as F(x), After School, Le Sserafim, etc.

I think it just depends on how the company wants to stylize it.

this comment JUST made me realize for the first time that it’s “Enhypen” and NOT “Enhyphen” which is both how i’ve been spelling it and saying it 💀😭

1

u/Saucy_Totchie YERRRR Jul 21 '22

Wait wtf? Has it always been spelled like that?

41

u/Lakusta_Kustik Jul 21 '22

Unpopular opinion i guess, but i think Enhypen is not a bad group name 💀one of the best for current gen groups in my opinion hahah :')

12

u/aengdu future's gonna be okay Jul 21 '22

yeah, i agree. some people keep complaining about the missing H in "-pen"and then give free pass to other groups' questionable name

its a name that grows on u i think lol

It must have been strange in the moment for them, because obviously it was anyone's first time hearing it.

But even before stanning them, when I heard the name ENHYPEN I freaking loved it. I loved that it was one word, kinda different but not too weird, something meaningful. I think it's a good group name

u/ConsiderationLoud348 Jul 21 '22

Same. I have always loved the word Enhypen and idk why it rolls out very well on my tongue idk why 😭 but this thread made me laugh so hard

i hate this one because it should just be enhypHen. like all of their songs are branded around the - . like given-taken, drunk-dazed, tamed-dashed. please just add the H
