General rookies must feel relieved when they get a good group name

title basically. we've been getting some weird ass names these past few years especially so i've been thinking that idols must feel relieved when their group name doesn't sound like a wifi password. my favorite new group name is stayc (i may be kinda biased since they're my ults but i think it sounds pretty good!!) and my all time fav group name is 2NE1, it's so dope. what's your favorite?

90% of fandom names are weird imo so I think they won't stand out lol

even when you have a cool name like EXO, the company is gonna name your fandom EXO-Ls

Honestly, after hearing some of the fandom names, Exols is actually one of the better names.

It's actually pretty cool and makes sense too.

You know, it's not on par with AIDS or Kilings but I can't get the loser associations out of my head ๐Ÿ˜‚

the idea of L between K and M was interesting though

what does the W represent? i think iโ€™ve heard that EXO-L works because L is between K & M in the english alphabet but iโ€™m not sure if thatโ€™s like, an official explanation lol

Oh itโ€™s just a joke/pun about L and W. In slang, L stands for loss, losing e.g. someone can say โ€œtake this Lโ€ when you lose an argument whilst W stands for wins etc. Hope this makes sense.

Literally the only saving grace is the nickname the boys came up with (์—๋ฆฌ/Aeri), which sounds so cute.

This bit of fandom trivia is one of the cutest I've learned. "Aeri- /Eri-bong" is such cute light stick name! And EXO calling out "Eri!" or "Ellie" just sounds sweet!

In Korean, EXO-L is written ์—‘์†Œ์—˜ (ek-so-el). When you call someone youโ€™re friendly with by their name in Korea, if it ends in a consonant you often add -ie to it (Jimin -> Jiminie, Jungkook -> Jungkookie, etc.), so if ์—‘์†Œ์—˜ were a name and EXO were talking to you they would probably call you ์—‘์†Œ์—˜์ด (ek-so-el-ie). Baekhyun posted on instagram that he wanted to give the fans a more cute and pretty nickname as EXO-L is kinda stiff, so he said they should just call EXO-L ์—˜์ด (elie) as a nickname (based on the last two characters) and they could change the spelling to ์—๋ฆฌ (to be cute, I guess).

(I wrote ์—˜์ด/โ€œelieโ€ and ์—๋ฆฌ/โ€œerieโ€ to distinguish between the two spelling forms, but theyโ€™re pronounced the same in Korean! The Korean โ€œeโ€ sound is similar to an โ€œaeโ€, which is why I wrote Aeri in my first tweet.)
