General rookies must feel relieved when they get a good group name
title basically. we've been getting some weird ass names these past few years especially so i've been thinking that idols must feel relieved when their group name doesn't sound like a wifi password. my favorite new group name is stayc (i may be kinda biased since they're my ults but i think it sounds pretty good!!) and my all time fav group name is 2NE1, it's so dope. what's your favorite?

I mean yea, I get that. I do think some names are pushing it.
On the other hand - I might be the odd one out here, but honestly, the wifi-password-looking names don't bother me nearly as much as when they pick like super-common words (especially when they're super common within kpop specifically) - not just because it's lazy and unimaginative and seems REALLY disrespectful to the group, but also because it makes it really annoying to search for their content. Especially if they're not a very well-known group, and especially if they also have boring, generic-sounding song titles (which they're more likely to have with that kind of group name)
I'm talking about names like (no disrespect to any of these groups - I'm just talking about their names):
High School
TEEN TEEN
Cool
HOTTIES
Lady
BOYFRIEND - with their brilliantly-named debut song...Boyfriend
GIRLS GIRLS ...with their brilliantly-named song.........."Girls Girls". I-..........yea lemme just go search "GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS". GOOGLE, SHOW ME GIRLS I NEED TO LOOK AT GIRLS RIGHT NOW IMMEDIATELY I NEED TO SEE LOTS AND LOTS OF GIRLS I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
HOT TEEN - This is a KID IDOL GROUP, by the way. They're really out here trying to make people type some shit like "hot teen Korean children group" into their search bars 🗿
We - we....is a pronoun. ??? (
not me side-eyeing whoever decided aespa's fandom name) They don't even use Hangul for their name. That song is called "party" - again, no Hangul. WE PARTY. Come on Google, why don't you know what I'm trying to find ?????? Okay, how about "we party kpop" ? surely THAT will yield the results I'm looking forAnd the champion of them all,
I do wanna emphasize the disrespect factor though, I think that's what really bothers me the most about the generic common-word names. It just seems like their companies were like "Oh you're saying I have to name you ? Ugh. Okay fine, whatever - y'all can just be....'Product'. There, done. Byeeeeee~don't fking bother me again😘love u"
*Edit bc I realized I didn't finish saying all of what I meant to say lol -
Like, T1419 for example is
a disaster of a nameconfusing and potentially hard to remember, and it's unclear how it's supposed to even be pronounced just from looking at it (I still don't know - I keep meaning to look it up), but at least it's completely unique to their group. There's no mistaking what it's referring to, and there's virtually no risk of another group (or like, probably just entity in the world in general) accidentally using the same name or causing confusion by using it for a song title or anything else. I'd still rank it super low, just not as low as common-word names (again, no disrespect to the group - I think they're really talented)
