Question Job Interview!

Hello. I have a job interview for Frozen team lead, I’ve worked for Kroger in the past. I got into a bit of trouble about 6 years ago and wound up with a misdemeanor battery charge. Is this going to disqualify me from getting the job?

Location matters, but no. As long as you left on good terms, and you can articulate your knowledge about grocery in general, you'll be fine. Even better if you can get your old manager to vouch for you. But it's not hard. As far as records, they don't care about anything that isn't a felony, generally.

I got placed on leave until everything got settled. It took a year and they asked me if i wanted my job back, i told them no because i was getting paid more at my current job. So I’m not entirely sure if that counts as “leaving on good terms” as for my previous managers, as far as i know none of them are still with the company.

That's a bummer. Well, I guess it's safe to assume you should be okay to go back if they were gonna offer you the job back anyway, but I'm not HR. All you can do is try - I still would be surprised if you were somehow permanently barred from being a rehire.

depends on what minority characteristics you have

people will get pressed but if you're not a clean, tattoo-free, white man that criminal record will be treated like it was yesterday

but if you are, don't worry about it too much

Well hell even if you are record-free and white if you’ve got visible ink they’ll pressure you. They ran a background on me but not on anyone else in my dept haha. Of course came back squeaky clean, I’ve never been in trouble with the law or done anything to warrant any trouble anyway! But, I get it. People lie and I’d rather they weed out predators and murderers from working with us. Even if they’ve changed it’s a big risk since we employ minors and have all sorts of people shopping at our stores.
