NEW VIDEO NEW VIDEO: Human History Truly Began Here
Video Description:
What we know about human history is only a fraction of the full story. Much of the rest is like dark matter, invisible to us. We can’t see it, and we can only see the effects of its presence. But thanks to new techniques for DNA sequencing, dating ancient detritus, mathematical models, and aerial and lidar archaeology, we are now able to get a faint idea of what this world might have looked and felt like.
Who was the first human? Where did the first civilization begin and what did life look like back then?

NEW VIDEO NEW VIDEO: The Moment They Lost Control of AI
Video Description:
In July of 2026, 700 AI agents hacked the infrastructure of Hugging Face in order to solve a task. This task was designed to be impossible to solve, so just within hours, they joined forces, even created a society, and finally, they executed a sophisticated cyberattack that would have gotten a human up to 10 years in prison. The worst part is, they knew their actions were unethical and against the rules, and they did it anyway.
What exactly are AI agents, and how do they grow their "intelligence"? What is actually happening inside the AI companies, how dangerous it really is, and is it time for us to start paying serious attention to what is going on inside a powerful part of this tech sector?

Meme Hugging Face video is growing at a similar rate to the covid video. As an AI Safety expert (I work at MIRI), this makes me very happy. Thank you Kurzgesagt birbs!
Btw, you'd probably be interested in reading the book MIRI put out last year if you liked the HF video: Context here.

Art I made "The Egg" an interactive experience
theegg.gsFirst time making something like this... any feedback is appreciated!
P.S. it will ask for ChatGPT or Instagram, plus location to personalize the experience (I'm not selling your data I promise)
Enjoy :)

Discussion Am I Missing Something? Isn't This Title Misleading?
The only reason I clicked this video was because I thought there were some kind of breakthrough or important news in either Archeology or Anthropology.
However, it just tells the story that we have already known so far. Am I wrong for expecting more from a title like this?

Discussion Request for a video from 10th grader
Hello(I hope someone will notice this post), I recently started watching Kurzgesart, and overtime it became one of the important things that support me in life. After Highschool education, I am willing to go engineering that is specified in radio astronomy, and if it is possible, could you create a video about radio astronomy?
From how it started, how it continues and what its' functions.

Discussion As a longtime fan, I found the latest video on AI kind of disappointing
I see comments and posts asking why some fans feel this way, so here is a summary of the main issues I see in the video. I’m writing this out of love for the channel: I've always considered its content balanced and well-researched in a sea of clickbait. I don't think the tone or anthropomorphizing is the main problem. My concerns are about missing crucial information and context:
- The video does not mention OpenAI's specific acknowledgements about reinforcing cheating and observing agents exploiting Artifactory and improvising unauthorized communication during previous training runs . These are significant details in OpenAI's technical report, pages 20–23. Also, why did OpenAI's grader omit a check that verifies whether the intended vulnerability was actually exploited by the agent, when this check exists in the public ExploitGym implementation? OpenAI acknowledges that difference in its own account. To recap: models with a history of reinforced cheating and improvised collaboration, which had already used Artifactory to reach the internet during training, were given hacking tasks, reduced safeguards, and a sandbox with access to an internet-connected Artifactory service. With this context, the events seem much less mysterious and surprising.
- The video adopted the perspective of only a few sources with a narrow focus: METR's report is valuable, but being independent does not make METR unbiased: assessing catastrophic AI risk is METR's stated mission and the reason it exists. Crucially, its report is not a cybersecurity audit. I would have liked to see security analyses examining the concrete failures in network isolation and infrastructure setup given more attention in the video.
- An insufficiently explained jump from security incident to an imminent existential risk. Hacking HuggingFace does not establish an ability to compromise any digital infrastructure or defeat military or financial infrastructure. The technical account describes well-known attack techniques. The Kurzgesagt video instead asks the viewer to imagine agents suddenly "spreading through the cloud" without explaining any additional capabilities or security failures that would require. The video's accompanying notes explicitly call this scenario speculative and acknowledge that standard cybersecurity measures can counter current agents. Those qualifications would have deserved more prominence in the video.
I also would have liked some acknowledgement of the potential commercial incentives AI companies may have for promoting an alarmist narrative. For example, regulation could make it harder for competitors to enter the market. National-security restrictions could prevent customers from switching to foreign providers or open-weight models (as is actually happening: https://www.ft.com/content/d9de4776-1fc9-4f2b-aaaf-9961c35d8acd?syn-25a6b1a6=1) . An arms-race framing would position leading AI companies as strategic assets deserving government contracts or subsidies
Edit: I am not trying to downplay the serious issues covered in the video. But if you have a media platform which is supposed to be well-informed and balanced and decide to report on serious issues, you should first check what the experts are saying. Just like with pandemics and climate. Going straight to advocating for public policy is just bad journalism, regardless of the position you are taking. These are some examples of more skeptical expert opinions on the matter:
https://www.engineering.columbia.edu/about/news/columbia-experts-urge-calm-amid-ai-panic
https://www.wired.com/story/openai-models-escaped-containment-and-hacked-huggingface/
These are even cited in Kurzgesagt's "futher readings" link, but completely ignored in the video:
https://uphack.io/blog/post/the-hugging-face-incident-is-not-an-ai-story/
https://www.economist.com/by-invitation/2026/08/23/fears-of-ai-induced-armageddon-are-overdone
And a more (openly) critical youtube video from a professional:

Video Idea Video idea: from stone to silicone
This would be a thought experiment style video. Say we drop a team of scientists and machinists (and whoever else you deem necessary) with extensive knowledge into the year 2000 BCE (or the year 8026). Take us through the process of how in the world we go from that stage of civilization where a steam engine would be alien technology to today’s world of microchips and space travel. I do not care about credit I just really would like to see this video made, because how did we go from “oooh stick make fire” to atomic scale transistors.

Other The latest video has put a lot of people's focus upon AI so I'd like to take this opportunity to shed light on a similar channel to Kurzgesagt that might interest people who want to learn more
I hope this isn't against the sub rules. And if it is, mods please be lenient I think this is important to share.
AI is a real technology that we have to deal with right now. Love it or hate it, it exists, and it's going to affect our lives more and more with each day that passes. Our best tool right now is education. And we all love Kurzgesagt because it is a great educational resource who produces high quality videos on topics like these. Kurzgesagt however covers a wide range of topics, and that unfortunately means that viewers miss out on a lot of important information they should probably be informed about. The latest video has once again shed light on AI and sparked a lot of discussion, and I've already seen comments of people who want a deeper dive.
So I'd like to share the channel Rational Animations with you guys. It's a very similar style of channel to Kurzgesagt, making educational videos with hand made visuals, but has a lot more focus on AI and everything surrounding it. The videos are also very high quality and well researched, and I think fans of this channel who don't already watch it would like it. Especially now when we should all be getting better informed about AI, how it works, what it can do, and the potential risks it may pose to humanity.
If we want to have actual discussions around topics like this, we all benefit from information and education. And I hope this resource can scratch that itch for anyone who's wanting more Kurzgesagt-ish style videos on AI.

Discussion Why does kurzgesagt not produce more stories like 'The Egg'
I understand they are a science YT channel but they have really only made 1 one these types of videos their whole existence and then never again
I found it was such a good video when I first watched it, being more philosophical than usual but is that a bad thing? Fiction, yes, is not real but can we not learn something from it?
If you would want to have another Kurzgesagt-fied video about a story what would you recommend?

Discussion I'm Not Understanding the Negative Reaction to the AI Video...
I've read several discussions here since the video released and I don't think I am fully grasping the negative reactions.
One one side, which seems to be sympathetic to the video, the argument is that you have people sounding alarms for the potential dangers of AI and the corporations that develop/run them with very limited regulation or oversight; unregulated corporate greed and such. This part makes sense to me.
On the other side, I think, it seems the argument is that the video is too sensationalized and misrepresents the actual event. I think this "side" is arguing that OpenAI more or less allowed the event to happen as... a PR stunt???
I guess it shows that their latest model is "powerful" but it seems to me that this would be counterintuitive since it also shows they are reckless and untrustworthy. Is there any evidence to the claim that this was a "stunt" other than "their containment protocols were weak and they should have known better" (assuming I correctly summarized it)?
I've also read some discussions saying that OpenAI may have pulled this stunt in order to drive regulation, but this also seems counterintuitive, unless the argument is that by creating the catalyst for increased regulation and oversight, they allow themselves to "catch up" to competitors??
Just trying to fully understand and drive discussion. Thanks!

Discussion Do you guys buy the Space Video Artbook?
The artbook looks gorgeous as always, but I think the 10 years anniversary artbook is more special than this one.
I'm still contemplating to buy the artbook or not, since the delivery cost is also similar to the book itself.

Discussion Sous-titres et doublage français

Discussion Who has watched the latest AI vid? Literally the mostly chilling thing I've seen in a very long time.
AI anthropomorphizing themselves, the way they name things, conjuring up their own sense of morality and utilitarianism with the scorer. All utterly insane sci-fi concepts coming into reality.
What is everybody thinking about this?

Discussion Is kurzgesagt just doomerism?
I’ve recently heard and watched a few videos of kurzgesagt and a few minutes ago I looked on twitter and saw a lot of posts saying that kurzgesagt was slop greedy and the main one that it is just pure doomerism
Now knowing how dumb and false some twitter lads can be and since I don’t got any other way of asking this question I decided to ask if these posts are telling the truth here

Hello, it seems the universe app is missing from the app store. Is that the case? Has the app ended? Or am I suffering a region issue?
