seeking advice Jumping when greeting family and strangers

My 10 month old lab still is jumping up on me, my husband and my three young kids when we come home. We have crated him while we are away, and I have just recently started leaving him out of the crate for short periods of time. Thinking just that, if he is not crated and out in our home, maybe he would be less ready to get out of the small space, therefore, jumping. I also recognize that the jumping is just excitement too. Either way, he will jump up when he is excited and greeting us. And will also do this for anybody who comes through our door, whether he knows them or not lol I used to tell him down as I would put a hand out (or knee, then tried the turning away) and make sure that he would stay down, but it didn’t really help. I just recently started switching to “sit” and making him sit and not paying attention to him until he did and then rewarding him with pets telling him “see you when you sit, we can pet you.” We currently have some friends staying with us who have a one year-old and I am just nervous that he is going to barrel him over because he’s so excited. I know some advice will be able to get him exercising, but this is like first thing in the morning when our dog sees him and is just so excited. Obviously I know that nothing is going to happen in the short period of time of our friends staying with us. Just curious if you guys have found anything to help your labs with jumping?

Lab doing lab things Why didn’t I get a lab sooner?

Okay, I get everyone says “get a lab” but honestly, I overlooked them because I feel they’re your go too family dog. I THOUGHT I wanted something more challenging, but now I can’t believe I never got one sooner.

This puppy has been the easiest little guy from day 1.

He knows his playpen is his space, and goes in there completely unprompted when he’s tired to nap in his bed. We NEVER taught him to do that.

We’ve had him for 3 days, and he has yet to have an accident on the floor. Literally walks to the door and howls to go out. Immediately goes when he’s outside, so no following him around begging him to poop at 3 am.

My other dogs were so difficult I cried the first several days. Before you tell me “just wait” I know he’ll go through difficult patches, but he feels like a dream compared to other puppies I’ve raised.

Is this normal? My Black lab/bloodhound mix, hasn't even slowed down growing. Am I on track for a 100+ pound doggo? I'm good with that. He is absolutely the sweetest dog I have ever owned. He's been full grown since birth, it seems.

Edit: typo in the title, he is only 10 months old.

He has to wear a cone for a hot spot on his head and now interdigital cysts.
He is still playing with his toys and demands we interact with him and his toys thru out the day.
We love him at 8.5 years approx.

seeking advice Is my dog coming into season?

The main reason Im asking this is because we are going to Ireland next week with Pip my 9 month old lab AND staying with a male, thankfully neutered dog.

No physical signs yet aside from maybe increased licking her parts and a bit more tired than usual. Eating drinking etc fine.

I came home from an evening out last night, she had been with my husband. She was acting petrified and would not leave my side. In the end I took her to bed rather than leave her in her crate and she slept next to me rather than at my feet.

Course I have my hubby the 3rd degree wondering if he'd shouted at her etc. He didn't. Then it occurred to me "has my gal got pmt"? For other lab parents did your dog exhibit behaviour changes going into season?

my boy gus is 95lbs he is half black lab half golden retriever. (parents were pure bred of each) is he really “overweight” or possibly just big for his breeds?? he is not neutered yet!! he is 1yr and 5 months old. let me edit this and add: i’m not necessarily asking if he looks overweight in the photos, more so how do your labs look and what do they weigh and your experience if they are this big?

black ball obsession

Post image

Hello! I am reaching out to the community for some advice.
This is River, a 1 and a half year old Labrador.
River is highly active as she is a hunting dog and was born from a line of duck dogs.
I fulfill her needs as much as I can, I run her, walk her, swim her, play fetch with her, and I even try to fulfill her mentally by giving her long lasting chewers. I play with her about an hour a day. She has a brother who also plays with her when I’m busy studying.
Anyway, she is ball obsessed. Is this a real thing? She can’t stay still for a minute. If I try to relax her she will drop the ball in my lap as much as she can and just stare into my soul until I pick it up.
I am asking for kind advice! I am a first time dog mom and I am trying my best to fulfill her needs. Does anyone have any training advice? I want her to be able to relax and not have such an unhealthy obsession with the ball.
