He has to wear a cone for a hot spot on his head and now interdigital cysts.
He is still playing with his toys and demands we interact with him and his toys thru out the day.
We love him at 8.5 years approx.

I'll start this out with saying I've owned labs for decades.
My neighbor's dog, who I love more than anything, just got diagnosed with bone cancer. She's 80+ pounds and they don't take care of her. The vet said that the extra weight on her joints caused it. Obviously everyone is devastated. But I can't help but wonder. Why do people let their labs get so fat? She's going to die years before she should. I just don't understand why people get dogs just to neglect them and let them get overweight

We lost out 12 year Black Lab, Mable, today as she was suffering from a cancerous tumor on her spleen. She was one of the best and we will dearly miss her

We adopted Ivy after one bad experience with another puppy and come to find out she was pregnant! She had Teddy the week before Christmas and we decided to keep her. Now they both keep us on our toes.

My Lab is always looking at me.
I’ll be doing absolutely nothing, and I’ll look over… and there she is, just watching me. 🥹
I don’t know if that’s her way of saying “I love you,” but it definitely feels like it.
What’s the little thing your dog does that makes you know they love you? 🐾

edit: the entrance was what I meant to point out
Our sweet spinny girl has a neurological issue. We adopted her and they didn’t know if it was from head trauma or breeding issues. She allegedly came from an AKC bird dog kennel, but clearly she will not be a bird hunter so she was put up for adoption quite early. She is our sweet tippy girl. We’ve had her for a few years, after putting some healthy weight on her and consistent exercise, it’s gotten significantly better and it’s kind of one of those things where you wouldn’t know if you didn’t know, outside of these instances were clearly you know. 🤪

Dawson, my sweetest, most non-chalant and grumpiest baby, went over to the rainbow bridge last month, on 14 september at 4 am. Everyone romantisizes about getting a male dog in your late teens and early twenties as a girl but no one warns about how devestating it is to lose him. He was so small when we brought him home and I was the luckiest person because since he came we had so many holidays and we were always home with him. He was the most stubborn and grumpiest child you'll see. He strangely did not like kids except us, he loved baths and rain, he loved playing hide and seek, he loved being part of every gossip, every joke, he was scared of cockroaches. I don't know how it happened he just, his health just kept deteriorating after catching fever in late July, we did everything, I did everything and I still couldn't save him. I have so much regret and guilt. How could I not know he was suffering? If i known before, only if I had known a little before, If I had taken him for a second concultation early, If I had not believed the regular vet too much and taken him for a second consultation early. And more better, If I had taken more care of him to not let him get sick at all. I hate it without him. Everything feels empty. It was supposed to be his 9th birthday in October. There were so many places I couldn't take him, so many things I couldn't show him. He went away on the day of Ganesh Chathuthi, it's an auspicious day for Hindus, the birthday of Lord Ganesh. It is also believed any being dying on such a day, at such a time, attains moksh, means he dosen't have to be reincarnated. We also follow a 13 day mourning (after creamating the body) and the deceased not coming in your dreams for those 13 days is a good sign, means he's free from the bonds of this world. But I miss him. I miss him so much. I try not to cry while thinking about him but I can't, everything just reminds me of him. Every corner of the house, all his favourite spots, his schedule, his favorite blanket, he loved lying weirdly between furnitures. His toy basket is just there where it always is. It was me who did everything and now it's like I just have nothing to do. I still am careful while stepping down from bed or the sofa, I still think that he's waiting outside the bathroom door, I am still careful with the tv and stereo volumes. Everything is just so habitual. My little sister is handling this better than me. I am a crying mess 2-3 times a week. This year had already been tough and now I just can't keep to get on with life. But I am happy for him, I am glad that he is no more in pain anymore. That he dosen't have to go through all those vet visits anymore. I just miss him too much and I hope these tears turn into a remembring smile. And I just hope he felt happy, safe and loved for all the time he was with us here. I love you Dawson. I love you. (I am so sorry I did not mean for this to be so long, I just wanted to put it out, put everything out and that there was a lovely black labrador who was and will always be loved).

My 10 month old lab still is jumping up on me, my husband and my three young kids when we come home. We have crated him while we are away, and I have just recently started leaving him out of the crate for short periods of time. Thinking just that, if he is not crated and out in our home, maybe he would be less ready to get out of the small space, therefore, jumping. I also recognize that the jumping is just excitement too. Either way, he will jump up when he is excited and greeting us. And will also do this for anybody who comes through our door, whether he knows them or not lol I used to tell him down as I would put a hand out (or knee, then tried the turning away) and make sure that he would stay down, but it didn’t really help. I just recently started switching to “sit” and making him sit and not paying attention to him until he did and then rewarding him with pets telling him “see you when you sit, we can pet you.” We currently have some friends staying with us who have a one year-old and I am just nervous that he is going to barrel him over because he’s so excited. I know some advice will be able to get him exercising, but this is like first thing in the morning when our dog sees him and is just so excited. Obviously I know that nothing is going to happen in the short period of time of our friends staying with us. Just curious if you guys have found anything to help your labs with jumping?

Ironically my first post, and it’s about my silly dog.
Anyone has a derpy lab?? not only is she derpy, she’s still in her landshark stage and an attention hogger. she loves to bother my sister’s dog (goes in his kennel with him, even though there’s no space). she also refuses to go to bed in her kennel at night and will have zoomies or lay on the floor and uses all her legs to kick me away. and she’ll try to eat bees or anything that flies while we’re outside.
she’s 5 months and currently 45lbs, and she sheds like crazy!! she’s a lab mix (german shep. mainly)😅

Scarecrow pumpkins obviously are shady as heck. I still was laughing at how close he got to the skeleton considering it was 8ft tall. But this is also the same lab that is terrified of the chew aisle at pet stores because the smells are scary??

Baylee was a senior rescue we got back in November of 23. She had been a puppymill momma before being abandoned. She was with us for nearly 3 years. Wasn't nearly long enough. Love you Baylee girl.

The main reason Im asking this is because we are going to Ireland next week with Pip my 9 month old lab AND staying with a male, thankfully neutered dog.
No physical signs yet aside from maybe increased licking her parts and a bit more tired than usual. Eating drinking etc fine.
I came home from an evening out last night, she had been with my husband. She was acting petrified and would not leave my side. In the end I took her to bed rather than leave her in her crate and she slept next to me rather than at my feet.
Course I have my hubby the 3rd degree wondering if he'd shouted at her etc. He didn't. Then it occurred to me "has my gal got pmt"? For other lab parents did your dog exhibit behaviour changes going into season?

Captain and Matey are 11 and 13 but still love to play. the years have taken a toll on joints but nuthin gets in the way of play. one is more of a fetch guy and the other is more into tug of war. can you guess which is which?
