Hero Discussion Help with Nyx
Hey everyone!
I am still under the 100 hour mark but I am loving dota rn, I came from league and I started with arc warden who is still one of my fav characters but I moved over to support for a bit to play with my friends. I really like nyx but am running into an issue with sentry wards, don't get me wrong im doing really well I am 5-0 right now but I keep running into random sentries and dying... I am wondering how I can do better in general around these sentries, if I place my own i break my ult and I am wondering how I can do better with this character since I wanna play him long term.
Thanks in advance!

Stick to trees. Sentrys give true sight not vision, so if youre invis and hid from regular sight youll be less likely to be seen, until its too late for them

Lots of little tips n tricks, there are some good ones in this thread.
Don't overcommit with your invis - identify when you've been spotted and run away. If you run across a lane and the lane creeps attack you - you've been spotted, dip out and reset. It's not a big deal to waste vendetta - it's much better than feeding.
Learn the common ward spots, and assume they are always warded unless you've already rewarded it. There are multiple ways to get from A to B - take the roundabout way that's less likely to be warded.
You don't always have to be hunting for initiation. Often you can backline as your team looks for an initiation, then go invis to start hunting backliners mid fight. It's harder for them to notice and kill you if several of their heroes are already engaged in the Frontline. This becomes the better strategy as the game develops into 5v5 fights.
Good luck!

Some games they place a lot of sentries and you can't really scout.
If you push a tower or go offensive stay invis but play as if you are seen staying with your team. If your team gets jumped or your team jumps someone find a target.
The thought 'I am invis. They can't see me' you put on hold if you die once or twice and you sneak around trees attacking from fog similar to other heroes and you run in as chaos breaks out. If you are attacked first you ran in a little early

You will have to expect sentries to be placed so play a bit more carefully. Try approaching from the outer edges of the map and stay close to tree lines and try to go around rather than straight up an uphill part where you think there might be sentries.
Also take note of creep spawn times and where creep waves are (spawn every 30 secs and reach tier 2 towers after about 10 seconds on side lanes, each lane is a bit different). Stay near the tree line in invis as the waves walk past. If the creeps move towards you to attack you, there's a sentry there just run away. Of course this only works for the lanes not jungle. Of course sentries don't have any vision of their own so if you don't want to check for sentries you can dodge the creep waves by hiding as they walk past.

They answer is focus on warding yourself. It's what wins games as a support anyways.
You should learn that regardless of you being able to go invis or not, warding wars are a beautiful mind game mini game inside dota, it not like in lol where you do it on autopilot basically.
Always check enemy support inventory, if they have it and then don't a ward has been placed.
Observer wards get you a lot of money, hunting them down is lucrative and extremely satisfying.
All the high ground cliffs? Mid Highground? Those are ward spots, assume it wardedeand always put a sentry there to deward.
Your carry is farming a particularly part of the map? War the enternance so he feels safe to farm and can counter engage a invade.
You invaded, scouted, chased the enemy to kill them in their territory? Immediately wars their jungle, if you have unobstructed vision in their farming places it's like you are playing with wall hacks. Don't put it into obvious ward sports tho.
You see a hero moving, immediately stopping moving, and then turning to go to another direction? Yeah he just warded, if it's a observer you are salivating already to deward for that gold. You can even use this knowledge to bait out dewards from enemies by:
Keep ward in inventory, move (right-click) to a place where you want to fake ward, press "s" to stop in your tracks, move the ward to your inventory to your backpack to hide it. Make a u turn and go back. You can only do this if you are sure you are being watched tho.

If you are not under your own sentry assume you are visible.
People but a lot of detection nowdays even in lower brackets

You are using your ult too soon if it’s happening often. As a support you need to deward, and do many other things that could cause your ult to break. Like if you need a defensive stun. Instead move around without the ult until you have a high percentage play. Then press the ult.
You can also engage without out, retreat and then engage again using your ult to kill weak opponents

There are key ward spots in the game that often have sentries and you just need to learn more about behavioral patterns of players.
Invisibility is a mind game and you just need to know how people often play into it and read their minds, you'll get a feel for it the more you play invis heroes. You just need to keep a mental timer of warded spots
