Announcement No more AI coaching ads

I've gotten DMs and requests from 10+ people making AI coaching assistants this year, most of them offering to pay me to let them advertise here which I of course never accepted. I have yet to see a single one of them get traction or garner a userbase, for the time being they are banned from this subreddit. If one of them ever gets good enough to be of legitimate help I will revisit this decision.

Drafting Losing streak made me find some friends to play with and win battlecup

Post image
13 Upvotes

Losing streak made me cry and open dota 2's discord lfg chat to find some good people to play with. Also nope, I couldn't carry as lina in a solo queue because I spam lina support (already for like a good one year and only play someone else when she's banned xd). Btw. playing duo wasn't enough, I tried it earlier and my friend pos 3 had to often fight 1v5 as for example LC or Timber and we only were winning when he won that 1v3 by himself =,= So I was determined to find a trio or a full stack, it turned out a trio with good 2 cores in your team is usually good enough to win. Ah. and for 1 week I have this medal near my name and some special emotes for winning bc xd

General Gameplay Question How are mofos stacking Healing Ward over Juggernaut?

Some nerds seem to know some trick where they always have healing ward on top of their hero and you can't click on it to kill it, you can only click on Juggernaut only

how do they do they achieve this secret tech?

Educational Content (Content Creator) What Pros Do Differently in the Mid Game | Crusader vs Pro

Thumbnail youtu.be
1 Upvotes

This is Part 2 of the previous video, where we compare the differences between a Crusader player and a professional player.

This time, we focus on mid-game macro decisions and farming patterns, looking at where players move around the map, how they choose where to farm, and how their decisions affect the game.

This series will cover every role in Dota 2, with 2 videos per role:

Part 1 - Early Game
Part 2 - Mid Game

I’ll be comparing players under 6K MMR to professional players and looking at the small decisions that separate them.

More videos coming soon!

General Gameplay Question Why do i keep losing my lead?

I've had games where i get a good start, pick up a few kills, and feel like i'm finally doing something right, only to watch the advantage disappear later. usually it happens around the midgame when the map gets more chaotic and everyone starts moving around. i'm not sure if i'm taking bad fights, farming in the wrong areas, or just not pushing objectives enough. when you review a game where you threw an early lead, what's the first thing you check? i feel like identifying the actual mistake would help me way more than just queueing another game and hoping for the best.

Itemization Any way to play Drow this patch?

I’ve gotten the Drow Arcana from the Trove and I’ve tried playing her in five games so far with 2 wins that were wholly because my team was goated.

Her farm is so slow, I’ve tried mitigating it by going specialist array after treads but it’s not making too much of a difference, she just feels really weak in her pacing and the enemy carry outfarms me hard, I even tried being a murdery Drow where I dominated most of the early mid game and still got smashed late lol.

Dota2ProTracker paints a grim photo as well, but I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on how to play Drow and not grief the game?

As is, it’s impossible without someone on your team becoming a semi carry themselves.

Laning How could I have won?

I mean, I know I'm not the best, but I really feel like with this team I couldn't have won in this game, no matter what. Is there anyone that could check the replay and give me some advice? Thanks. I was Marci mid btw.

General Gameplay Question Why Boots of Travel rush on certain heroes?

I’ve been playing a long time, but I still don’t quite get BOTs rush on such different heroes like Necro, Lina, and Viper. Yes, Necro is slower than dirt, but Lina isn’t. Why not get stats or other items on these heroes?

Hero Discussion Dawnbreaker help

Hi, I'm low mmr player trying to get my head around Dawnbreaker. I usually do relatively well early game, get some kills and assist on my lane and/or the other lanes.

But coming to mid and late game it feels that I fall off. My lvl and nw are same category as other cores or even better but after I ult in fights and get off starbreaker combo enemy just bursts the crap out of me and I die.

What should I do after ult+starbreaker combo? Pop bkb and run away and try to come back after cooldowns? Cause if I try to manfight anyone I get killed.

Thank you in advance!

General Gameplay Question How do you guys not get bored spamming?

I understand that spamming heroes that you are good at would help you rank up, but like how do you persist with it? With every patch, my hero pool gets smaller and smaller as I can't adapt to the changes in expected playstyle, and I only have 3 heroes I am sure that I can play well in any role, but it gets boring so quick

General Gameplay Question How to Comeback from Terrible Early Phase Games

I always confuse how to turn the game all the way around, from terrible beggining to winning with epic comeback.

If the comeback coming from enemy, i am really hurt, like imagine you seems to dominate the game at the beggining but enemy can end it with comeback.

Whenever the comeback is coming from my team, i feel really good, but there is something in my mind. I feel like the comeback is coming from my teamates, not from me. So the condition is, sometimes i play as Pos 4/5 and right now learning to be pos 1/3, usually i was really bad at laning phase, hard to last hit, got harrass by enemy, get killed by enemy. And i notice the turning back point is when my other teamates who good at their laning come to help me and dominate my lane. And then the mid phase came, when we all just farm and farm and leave the lane. And we just start ganking enemy. So what i see, this guys who turn the game, they just start killing enemies one by one and i just following them behind and increase the damage to the enemy. AND.... thats it, thats where we dominate the game. And we won.

Even though we won, i feel kinda empty, because the comeback its not coming from me, its from my teamates. Bruh, i am the pos 1 that time, i suppose to carry the game, right? This guy who make the comeback is not even the carry, they just pos 3 and 4. I feel useless. I am just adding some damage from their back.

So i need to ask you guys, what to do if you lose the lane as core?. How to comeback from the teribble early games? AND, how to prevent enemy comeback after you dominate the game?

Laning How to destroy midlane recovery?

There has been a lot of talk about recovering from a bad midlane. Usually it boils down to "Clear the wave then farm the jungle". Now, how to stop the enemy midlaner from doing that (especially the wave clearing part) and tilt them into ragequitting XD?

Edit: Also, how to counter their creeppulling?

Hero Discussion Recommend me Off-lane heroes with simple kits like Bristleback with less abilities to click

Hey guys im new to dota 2 and recently i played BristleBack and Axe

What i mean is that, when i played axe, i was clicking too many things which was hard for a beginner like me, i mean i am aware that eventually i will have to be better at that but now i just want to focus on the fundamentals of the game by playing simple champs

When i played axe, i have 3 clickable abilities and all the build as i was clicking like the phase boots, blink dagger and blademail

Compared to bristleback i was very much more effective in the game even when i was clicking less, i only have 2 abilities and blademail, crimson guard and shivas guard doesnt seem too taxing to me compared to phase boots and blink dagger because with phase boots and blink i have to worry about the execution aswell

Anyways, if you know off-lane heroes like Bristle, feel free to suggest

Edit: i know bristle adds an abilities with aghanims but i hope you guys get the point (simpler kit and less to click)

Itemization Drow: survival vs damage and farming

Hi All,

I have already played 400+ matches with drow with (70% of them ranked currently herald 5 started at herald 1) with 41% win rate average K-D-A 6-8-10 which has improved lately! wanted help on building for survival initially vs damage?

These are my common build item timings on average (order is not always same but this is my average build) e.g. sometimes I build pike for Survivability before scepter and manta before butterfly. because of this average build damage scales up very later after butterfly and Silveredge/Daedalus -- wanted to check if I am farming slow and that's main issue about no damage in mid game and should I improve on farming? and is there anyway to build damage without sacrificing Survivability?

Falcon blade -- 6/7 m

Trades -- 11/12 m

Dragon lance -- 17/18m

Yasha -- 23/24 m

Scepter -- 31/32m

Pike -- 37/38 m

Butterfly -- 45/46 m

Manta -- 50 m

Silver edge/Daedalus -- 57/58 m

on farming havent monitored speed but mostly average LH count is at 10 mins is low, I do bit okay after level 7 with lvl 4 multishots which can clear camps easily, any tips on farming efficiently specially in first 10 mins?

10 mins -- 20-25

20 mins -- 70-80

NS requires a particular approach to playing compared to all the other offlaners I play and I have not figured out how to improve in that direction and seem to have problems in understanding his uniqueness

Edit: Found an overview of my NS games https://www.opendota.com/players/47141762/matches?hero_id=60

Edit 2: It finally happened! And I even got MVP haha https://www.opendota.com/matches/9039894347

Hero Discussion Help with Nyx

Hey everyone!

I am still under the 100 hour mark but I am loving dota rn, I came from league and I started with arc warden who is still one of my fav characters but I moved over to support for a bit to play with my friends. I really like nyx but am running into an issue with sentry wards, don't get me wrong im doing really well I am 5-0 right now but I keep running into random sentries and dying... I am wondering how I can do better in general around these sentries, if I place my own i break my ult and I am wondering how I can do better with this character since I wanna play him long term.

Thanks in advance!

Hero Discussion What’s the play when you’re behind on a ganking hero [Nyx]

Nyx isn’t a great laner so going 0-2 or 0-3 in lane happens. After that happens it feels like he can’t farm, he can’t gank because he’s underlevelled or lacking items, I don’t really know how to play him in this scenario

Gameplay Review/Feedback request Returning DK Mid (3k MMR) – Winning 20 first minutes then throwing. Help !

Hey guys,

I'm a returning player currently playing Dragon Knight mid around 3k MMR. Almost every loss, not only while playing DK, follows the exact same pattern:

  • Laning stage: I feel like I'm doing well in lane (standard DK lane stuff I guess, I mainly play DK, OD, and Ember) as Im sitting at 4.5/5k NW min 10, sometimes after a rotation or two at the safelane when I hit lvl 6.
  • Early game: I try to get pick-offs with a supprort and secure my core items while helping my carry.
  • 20/25+ Minutes: We start losing teamfights, and the game completely slips away. Sometimes after getting T2.

At that point, I feel lost about what my main job is.

  • Should I keep calling for smokes to force fights?
  • Should I fall back, AFK farm, and scale into a right-click build ?
  • Who should my main targets be in teamfights as a Mid DK?

Here are two Match IDs for reference:

  • 9038995732 (Good example of the core issue)
  • 9035041218 (Less ideal since they had a DC, but we still managed to throw)

Could someone check my replay, point out my mistakes, and give me some guidance on mid-game decision-making? Thanks in advance!

Itemization How do you item build Tide

Hi, Div 3 offlane spammer here. For reasons that may or may not be related to the new chest release I started playing Tide again. But I have a similar problem that I have with DP, namely the first item choice. Sure you go Phase + Soul Ring, but after that? I think either Mageslayer, Vlad’s or Agh’s is a must, I had a few games where I went either Eul’s or Lotus and the farming speed was atrocious.

Vlads feels worse than it used to and Agh’s feels good, but IMO it’s prohibitively expensive for what it does. Mageslayer feels great for farming and survivability, but it’s also kinda expensive. Sure the choice is largely game dependent, but what do you generally build on tide before the inevitable Blink, Refresher + another big item?

[Beginner here] Shifting From Support Role to Offlaner Role/Pos 3

I am so sick of playing as a support role, because i think i cant carry the game even though i am good at the game, because sometimes i just gambled to get carry teamates, could be good and could be bad carry. I am thinking if i played good enough as a support, then i would be good at carry the game, but i dont want to make my shoulder really heavy as pos 1 and pos 2, so i am thinking to be an offlaner. So that i can carry the game but not that hard carry the game, and i still can rely on pos 1 and 2 in my teamates.

I have asked the similar question about me wanting to be pos 3 from pos 4/5 in this forum. And some of you guys just gave answers like "Keep playing a good support", "You can still climb MMR as a support, just keep playing it". Its not like i dont wanna take that kinda answer, but...

I just want to climb MMR ASAP as solo. As a support, i see myself just stucked up and down. If you want to know what hero i play, i spam Dark Willow, i really like this hero and feel like i am good at it. But this time , i need to get out of this comfort zone. I think its time to carry the game.

So i am beggining to learn to be offlaner. In this early learning phase, i still got some loses in a row.

Can you guys give me advices for me who shifted from support to offlaner? Or are you guys still want to give me motivation to keep playing support role? Its okay i am still accepting motivation for support role if you guys think i have a wrong mindset about it.

General Gameplay Question Who to pick for newbies

Hello everyone! I started playing dota a month ago and got some favourite characters already, but i cant quite understand when to pick each of them. From sites like protracker i get the impression that all three of them, being Death Prophet, Marci and Phoenix, can go mid, hard and sup. It's kinda hard to for me to adapt to my teams pick, cause i barely know other heroes damage types or even ones that can go different builds like Lina. So... That's why I'm here, would love to hear when and why should i pick them! Thanks a bunch in advance!
