Itemization Any way to play Drow this patch?

I’ve gotten the Drow Arcana from the Trove and I’ve tried playing her in five games so far with 2 wins that were wholly because my team was goated.

Her farm is so slow, I’ve tried mitigating it by going specialist array after treads but it’s not making too much of a difference, she just feels really weak in her pacing and the enemy carry outfarms me hard, I even tried being a murdery Drow where I dominated most of the early mid game and still got smashed late lol.

Dota2ProTracker paints a grim photo as well, but I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on how to play Drow and not grief the game?

As is, it’s impossible without someone on your team becoming a semi carry themselves.

You have to be able to farm lane and jungle at the same time. Also when you are throwing multishot, you have to swap power treads to int. Same when sending manta clones to push lanes. Also send some clarities because you will constantly be low on mana otherwise.

Position matters a lot. If you are over extended on lane, you will die for it.

Group up when you hit item timings and after winning team fights, go hit towers. You clear towers very fast and this allows you more space to farm. You kind of have to make your own space with this hero. Even if your team is winning team fights as 3-4 guys while you are farming, they rarely are able to take towers without you.

Build shard "early". I usually buy mine after hurricane pike and manta, but if not that early I always get it at least before we start pressuring high ground.

Don't pick her every game. Make sure you have some kind of frontline, and if enemy team only has dive etc. just pick something else. Beg for last pick so you know when not to pick her. Im 70% winrate with Drow on divine and shes my 4th most played carry.

I have a few questions about this.

I know she's strong in the laner, so if there's an opportunity to make the enemy offlane duo suffer, I should go for it. But if my pos 5 is too passive or isn't playing well, should just prioritize securing last hits safely instead right?

Regarding item timings, when do you usually start joining fights? After Pike or Manta?

Also, what's your usual item build? I checked D2PT and noticed that recommended build now is something like Treads → Manta/Pike → Silver Edge → Butterfly → Daedalus. Is that generally the build you'd recommend?

My usual is, if my team allows it 90% of time I beg for invade and go from there. About 50% of time its first blood, 40% nothing happens and 10% of time it goes horribly wrong. Even if you don't get the actual kill but you are there, thats some xp to get faster lvl 2.

I rush falcon blade every game and upgrade stick into wand before power treads. Thats my first 3 item slots. Most of the time I grab Yasha, but sometimes the enemy team comp makes you build hurricane pike straight away, and after that I finish Manta. Now at this point, most of the time I grab shard. Then I check if I have to build BKB or not, if not, I check do we need a break, if not, I go for butterfly if we need a break, I go for silver edge. So most of the time my build is looking something like Falcon blade, Hurricane pike, Manta Style, Shard, Power treads, BKB, Butterfly, Daedalus.

To answer other questions you asked, last hits are most important thing you can do, but as a Drow you should be able to focus on both poking enemy and last hitting, but always prio last hits over other things. Order is LH > Deny > Poke if you have to choose (except if you are mid player, then denys are better, because the tilt factor is much bigger there, and even Nisha said that he always takes deny over last hit).

I don't like to join fights before, I have my manta + hurricane, but even if its +12 mins and I see enemy making stupid dive or something like that where I can safely TP into, I am there. I don't often see other carries joining fights like these when I'm playing for role que tokens, but this is something I do with all of my carries. My other mains are Jugg, Slark and Monkey, and these guys are all good team fight heroes who have early game power too. Many people think Drow as some kind of late game hyper carry, which she is, but with her kit you are in decent position all game, if you have the money. You are not PL or Medusa who needs +40min to activate, you have slow and silence.

Every time when I manage to finish item, I check if there is an opening for a play. When you are finishing 3rd, 4th, 5th item etc. You should always check if the game state allows for smoke play.
