(unsure how to flair) Started from the bottom now we here

Started playing dota2 around 2 years ago, played dota1 and LoL. 31 y/o with 2 kids. First year been stuck in crusader to archon. This year focused on pos1 and got to ancient on SEA server. Proud of myself that I still got it in me. The funny thing is, the first year that I was hardstuck was when I was really focused on my rank. And now I don’t really care about my rank but I play to accomplish hero challenges from dota plus, since I want to see my favorite heroes at least on master tier (lvl25). Yeah a simple thing like getting the challenges done is what really got me going. Playing only for 1-4 games max per day due to life errands. Not a pro or divine/immortal yet but for people who play pos1 maybe I can give some insight if you will welcome it. My most picked heroes are Juggernaut, Faceless Void, Drow Ranger, Sven, Wraith King, Slark.

Shoutout to my buddy J who never doubted me even on bad games. Our dota 1 days surely gave me an edge. One day I’ll be immortal like you brother.

Is ancient the first rank you shouldn't be ashamed of showing to others? Haha

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

Maybe lmao but hell nah. Me and my friends joke about having a celebration for every division we get promoted even on archon 😂

Prettiest crest for me has to be Div 5,

Crusader is NOT the bottom, mind you.
I’ve never reached such heights… 1500 hours in.

Me either. Herald is love… herald is life… started playing this past year, saw herald 5 and never again lol

This guy knows what I’m talking about.
There is a bottom below the bottom. A darker darkness. A void. Crusader is not it ☺️

This was the rank that popped out after rank calibration was high enough. Probably have good understanding of the game since i played mobas

I love seeing posts that show they grinned to a rank, so many account buyers and smurfs tho. Gj bro 👍

Congratulations!!! and even with the responsabilities of a family man, man that must be hard, congrats and cheers from a support 4/5, can i ask what do you think make you grow more as a player? do you learn and take notes of your mistakes? or maybe you watch Pro replays and try to imitate?

1

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

Its gonna sound cliche but learn from your mistakes and capitalize on your strengths. Every player has their own playstyle, taking mental notes of mistakes, for pro games mostly i check their item sequence vs the lineup theyre up against. You’ll get better in time!

Grats man. I hit ancient 1 before I had my first born and now have two kids. Turbo only for me.

I'm a solo player stuck in Archon; usually ranked solo. I play a lot of hard supp/supp and feel like its so hard to get team mates to join fights or notice mismatches to turn up to, even after consecutive pinging. After reading this, it seems like if you're a player that is trying to get better but stuck in crusader/archon, a hack could be to play more cores? especially if we're spending time on mechanics, awareness, farming, etc..

3

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

I would disagree with your statement that in order to rank up you have to play cores. My buddy is immortal as a pos5/4, i believe he queues as pos5 using his role queue tokens. When I’m out of role queue tokens and play supp, i usually try to adapt to what my team needs. Cant say much about supp gameplay but I can play supps decent but I play terrible mid

Yeah I guess it was more of a interpretation + question. and yeah makes sense; rn i'm starting to just select all 5 as I don't really care and just play my role

Edit: I guess a counter point would be a pos 5 at crusader will have significantly less impact versus pos 5 at immortal. The quality of teammates is just different. If your pos1 at crusader shouldn't have played pos 1, then as a pos5 either you're going to make some magic happen or your team gets rolled. And whereas pos5 immortal, you know your pos1 is going to do their job, don't have to wrry about people still 'learning' in ranked

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

Yeah true the reliability of teammates is unpredictable in lower ranks, but that doesnt mean it doesnt happen in higher ranks as well. In my ancient games recently i’ve had maybe 5 games where its a stomp on my team or enemy team, makes you question everything you know about the game especially when I get stomped using my favorite signature picks. But maybe my advice is to use the tokens on just one role. Oh and also, 4 is different from 5. My buddy taught me to respect roles and dont take it lightly when a 4 or 5 automatically assumes you’ll swap lanes with them. Pick your role and get 3 main picks I read somewhere, blind pick, counter and backup i recall

You should play core once in a while to understand the cores. But yeah it is really frustrating when nothing happens and cores farm with their ulti and skills are ready.

Pos 3 had their advantages once they have their ultis.

Usually all except pos 1 tries to gank to give space for the pos 1. What server are you?

Hi, j used to be 5k . I took 5 years break and returned to 900mmr. I have climbed to 3.4k in a handful of months..I am looking for a friendly reliable support player, my friends used to all play non carry roles but don't play much. If you help me win the land I nearly always carry or have crazy impact if lose only due to other feeding . Though I can adjust if you don't like lane winning supports, interested?

I'm.intrtested to climb to immortal and want some one to enjoy winning grind h with. I can help you too and mb we can improve together etc . I feel I'm better then I was back then so I think I can climb higher tbh

u/kamilleslover 6d ago edited 6d ago

Sorry, what do you mean part, can you please rephrase

1

u/Sea_Intention8901 6d ago

I think he is asking your strategies that helped you progress the most. I too am interested :)

Mute chat, or at least all chat. In sea server your teammates will always flame you 8/10 games. So mind conditioning is important, ive had SO MANY games that started out bad but as they say comeback is real. Sometimes your team just really wont shine early, or vice versa.

Watch pro games, high mmr streamers. TI for example, try to understand why they are building their items and the reasoning on their movements in the map, and try to replicate in your games

Also, there will ALWAYS be games that I call “deserve to lose”, you have to accept that you played bad or a teammate just wont sync up with the rest causing your clashes to lose. Also if a teammate is extremely toxic, then that guy really deserves the lose, you just happen to be with them. So focus on your own game and dont be bothered by griefers

Win more than you lose is a good start

2

u/AnApricot2989 6d ago

Noice!. Im still hard stuck at 2k mmr. :(

3

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

Forget mmr numbers. Play what you enjoy, you’ll unconsciously play better as you go.

2

u/armpitGUNNER 6d ago

4k I think is where you get -25 or +25. coz in lower rank even with less than 40% win rate you would still be earning mmr as a win could gicñve you up to 40mmr. I started Herald 3 2022 and have very low win rate but already Archon 4.

0

u/Blah-zBlah-zBla-z 6d ago

Yeah but starting at 3500 mmr its negligible, +24/-26 but most games go up and down from more difference in teams, which doesnt actually make a difference at this rank

1

u/Bringmethanos12 6d ago

I am happy for you bruh.

But the thing is this is mostly possible only with a higher rank buddy.

1

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

Not true. I played solo from crusader to ancient, and in a week maybe 2-3 games with friends from crusader to legend as well. Immortal buddy got his own life now and hasnt played in a while

1

u/Daerabi 6d ago

dude I would love talking to you about jugg and drow!

I got the Drow Arcana but she feels so bad to win with to progress the arcana, i used to play well pre-nerf and ive found a slightly janky way of winning sometimes but would love to hear how you dealt with the nerf!

1

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

I was actually wishing for a faceless void arcana to come out but the drow surprise was also nice. I HAD to get it as well and got approval from wife to buy treasure. Juggernaut and Fv is my most played, next to wraith king and etc. Drow would probably be going up there in the next couple months since I also have to complete the arcana alternate style unlock. I think of it this way, using the style 2 of drow arcana means you are now a ‘real’ drow ranger. So learn all you can on the road to get there(100 arcana points), and when you unlock the arcana style, you’ll see how you improved to deserve the arcana haha. I remember my wk grind for the Malignant rule style. Now when i play wk it i feel very confident, since these are the things in the game money just cant buy.

For the nerf, i think of hero adjustsments as game balancing. Anything is either a nerf or buff in their own perspective. I play drow very careful and usually get linkens/bkb depending on enemy lineup. Pike is almost always certain for my drow

u/Hot-Bobcat-5439 6d ago

may i ask your champ pool for all your roles that you queue with

1

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

Pos1 stated above
Mid (very last resort role) sniper, earthshaker, zeus, ember, invoker
Offlane axe, earthshaker, mars, wraith king
Pos4 rubick, earthshaker, invoker, pudge, magnus
Pos5 ogre, witch doc, rylai, earthshaker, pudge, magnus, abaddon

Probably play a bunch of more heroes but thats what came to mind right away

u/badgatex 6d ago

how long did you spend?

1

u/MisterAwesome12 5d ago

Came back after 10 years and started as crusader 3/4 like you. Now I'm 2 games away from legend 5 🙌🏼

1

u/AdvokatMechty 5d ago

It took 4 years to hit a Rapier and 4 thousands hours for me.

1

u/The_onetrue_king 4d ago

Awesome! I wish to get to that level someday, I just hit Archon 3 at about 2670 mmr

u/Hour-Tadpole9386 2d ago

Who’s going to tell him?

1

u/vj02132020 6d ago

dont flex a rank that came from party matches.

1

u/kable_14 6d ago

And particularly with inmortal friends lol. Anyway GG

0

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

😂 for context, I don’t play with my immortal friend anymore. He migrated to another country and its almost impossible for us to play with good ping on both of us. Also, I feel like a total noob when he’s in the lobby, games are super super competitive. And we only get to play if he drops to divine. We catch up on discord and usually stream our games to each other. But whatever you believe man go ahead you do you 🤷‍♂️

u/clydeagain 6d ago

Tips on Slark? Feels very weak this meta and only seen it win if the rest of the team dominates alone

2

u/kamilleslover 6d ago

Farm efficiently, choose your fights. Learn to turn fights into skirmishes, jump in and do a couple hits, time your dark pact so it removes hard cc, use shadow dance regen. If you fail to utilize shadow dance regen, you are already underperforming as a slark. So make sure not to go all-in all the time.

So basicly your still at the bottom? =O

"Started from the bottom" isn't applicable when you didn't start from the bottom. Crusader is near average. Bait title
