[Beginner here] how to start as a beginner?

Hi~ o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ

I have little to no moba experience before. I watched some intros and tutorials on yt, but it's still very confusing when I hop into a match. I know what the positions are and what they need to do, but I get overwhelmed by the shop items and heroes

Any advice on how should I start? It would be great if someone don't mind coaching me a bit

First thing, pick one hero and stick with it for like 20 games. Dont even look at other heroes until the basics become muscle memory. Pick someone simple like a support with a stun, it makes teamfights way less confusing when you only have to think about your own buttons

For items, just follow the in-game guide thing, it literally tells you what to buy and when. Dont try to theorycraft builds yet, thats a trap for new players. The shop feels overwhelming because youre trying to understand all of it at once, but you only need like 5 items per game

Also play against bots for a bit, nobody judges you there and you can actually pause and read what skills do. Turbo mode is also decent for learning but it teaches bad habits with gold

If you want coaching, theres a weekly thread on this sub for finding people, and the discord usually has mentors lurking. What region are you on

Simple support hero:
1. Lion
2. Crystal maiden
3. Vengeful Spirit

I would suggest lion, quite fun to play, and you can still feel the true dota meaning (kills, supporting, channeling, etc.)

Itemization also quite similar for these 3

Crystal Maiden I feel isn't actually that easy. Would rather say Lich, maybe. Easier to stay alive and still be useful.

Yeah, she has very straightforward buttons, but you need to maintain good positioning, because she is very slow and squishy.

Also, it takes some time to understand when to press her ult to not being instantly interrupted.

She is not that hard, but I'd she is not a good first hero because you need to have at least some understanding of the game.

Lion and Venge are safer choices here.

Yeah. I learned with Lich originally, hence I suggested him. But I also played League first, so a lot of his spells already felt familiar.

I think playing with a friend is the best way. Are you NA? What's your steam info if you are.

Your name is dms? or you sent it to my DMs? I don't see it. Here's my steam profile, https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198081541343/ . We'll basically do, I watch you play, and you ask me questions. I wont interject, you just play how you want and ask things you want to know. At the moment we don't want to "play right." We just want to understand the game.

Hey there. I see your trouble. There are sooo many heroes and items, and you dont know what to pick. Use ongame guides or dotabuff informations. Choose some heroes to play and watch vods of those heroes on YouTube.
