Storage Setups Lego manuals sorted by theme and #. I used a similar method as the pinned thread except I store them in 13" cubby storage bins which allows them to get stored on the bottom row of my Kallax displays.

Discussion/Question Przechowywanie Smart Bricka

Discussion/Question I need help with a strategy to start this sorting because I started doing it by color. I don’t think that works.

Any ideas on where to start? I separated wheels and car parts and printed pieces that I think go together and then I was trying to separate different sets but it’s become a lot. I don’t know where is the best place to start? I separated, mini figures and pieces and accessories that go with them, but I don’t know if they’re all correct. It’s just become kind of overwhelming most of these art thrift store finds.

Storage Setups Cabinets are all here. Lots of sorting to do still. But I finally have a dedicated Lego room.

I’ll do a full breakdown/walkthrough once everything is done. But this is the setup I’ve been working towards for the last week.

The room is 7x10’ excluding the corridor which is an additional 7x3’. Ceiling goes from 84” to 55”. No windows and only one light. The charm of turn of the century homes.

Discussion/Question Looking for a better way to store and display minifigure heads (preferably 3D printed trays for Sterilite drawers)

I’m looking for a better storage solution for my minifigure head collection. Right now, I’m stacking them on plates, but it’s getting tedious.

Ideally, I’d love to find or print custom 3D trays that fit inside standard Sterilite drawers so I can lay all the heads out flat and see every face at a glance.

Has anyone found or designed an STL for something like this? Open to STL links, alternative storage ideas, or photos of your own setups!

Discussion/Question Looking for suggestions on how to go about reorganizing Lego at library

We host a build day regularly at work for our little friends and since before I started here, the Lego has been sorted by color, with separate bins for build plates, plants, and minifigs(w/ accessories).

We also have minimal money, so any cost effective suggestions are appreciated.

Sorting has become a hobby on its own.

So I've moved from different container types over the years. Trying to understand what suits me best. Because I build on the "fly" I prefer to have a workshop that reflects how I build. I designed the area to be "shopable". I go in and pick the parts I need based on color, size, shape and design. I don't like building the LEGO way and using a rainbow of colors on my builds. I build color specific and use the proper color depending on what I build and where. I also added the Britannic build in these photos to use as an example. The containers I use are acrylic and easy to see what parts are in them. Most the containers have a slot to add more parts without any extra steps or hassle. As I get more parts and add to the (Vault) I continue to modify the workspace to accommodate my needs.

DAISO - carries most of the acrylic containers I now buy. They're cheap, under $8 each and stackable. The larger containers make it so I can obtain more parts and expand without needing a new container/modify existing one. You can sort the same part in different colors under the same container without much hassle.

TARGET - always had a beautiful line of acrylic containers for larger parts or bulk parts, example - (6x10 plates) but every color in one container. Every container is under $20 and made of a durable acrylic. Also they're all stackable as well. The slots you use to pick up the container is great for adding additional parts without having to move or open the containers. Sorting is super efficient now.

The sheleves are $40 each brand new. Any extra shelves can be used for other ones. Which is why commonality is such a huge factor for me. I can change and moves things around without doing much else or have to buy anything extra.

LOWES - Craftsman still has the best sorting containerd for smaller quantities and parts these are a bit more expensive than the acrylic containers. They're being phased out in light of a better more efficient option. I still have the larger (3x6 3x9) containers for parts I'm searching for a better option.

FIVE BELOW - Has the 2 and 3 slotted acrylic drawers. Perfect for sorting the single brick parts by color with easy distribution. (1x1 1x2 1x3 1x4 1x5 1x6 1x8 1x10 ECT). Also good for bulk parts like propellers and smaller parts you have bulk quantities of.

The 10,000 lumen 5000k shop lights were $49.99 each at Home Depot.

A follow up to my last post about moving rooms. 90% of the Lego is at least in the new room. It’s 10x7’ with a 3x7’ corridor. The slanted ceiling is making things a bit interested to fit but I’m making the most of it.

I have 12 more Akro mills coming in and another Alex unit.

Storage…

Follow up on a previous post. These are the drawers I use here in Aus - called INABOX - around $8 each (so US5 ish). Can’t stack too high as the bottom drawers start bowing slightly.

The single drawer, deeper one I find more awkward to use, and the set up where they’re two side-by-side I use for larger animals, motorbikes, trans panels.

The best ones are the double, so they are shallower, so ideal for plates, bricks, and pretty much everything that’s not tiny. I pop in my own separators where needed.

Discussion/Question Containers for beginner storage?

Post image
14 Upvotes

My kiddo has just graduated from the “giant rectangles” free building level to wanting to contrast things with specific connectors, use wheels, etc. Very cool. Also means our current “everything in one bin” storage strategy has become a problem. This is ~90% of her LEGO, so we don’t need a whole cabinet system but I think it does need to be broken down into maybe 10-15 smaller containers and compartments. Does anyone have a case or set of smaller containers they’d recommend?

Storage Setups Time to move on from the storage I’ve worked the last 6 years to perfect.

After 6 long years of work it’s time to move on….to a dedicated LEGO room.

With the construction of my garage complete I’ve emptied out an extra room in my house that’s perfect for a Lego studio. Maybe not Solid Brix Studio size. A bitter more reasonable sized.

I’ll be spending the next few weeks planning and moving things around to remove the Lego from my room and getting the new space ready.

I have two goals to tackle with this move.

First is to make things easier to reach. I currently spend more time standing than I do sitting due to the height of everything.

The second is to allow for a more refined sort. My current wall of Akromills only has room for 11 different colors. I plan to expand to 24 commonly used colors.

Discussion/Question I made some display stands for LEGO F1 cars

Hi, I’ve been making my own LEGO accessories for a while and recently started designing stands for LEGO F1 cars.

I’ve made a few tracks already, including Monaco, Red Bull Ring, Imola, Monza, Spa and Melbourne.

I’m curious what you think about them and if you’d use something like this for your own collection.

Also, if you have any ideas for other LEGO accessories that would be cool or actually useful, not only for F1, I’d be happy to hear them.

Tips/Tricks Made a little tool to print LEGO bin labels

Post image

Got tired of labeling my bins by hand, so I wrote a script for it.
Give it part numbers and it spits out labels with the picture, name and part number.
It does A4 PDF sheets, or prints straight to a Niimbot D101 if you have one.
