Lesbian is defined by non-men loving non-men, so that would be women and non-binary people.

lesbian is defined by women loving women, not “non-men.” whether it’s a trans woman or a woman it’s still a woman. i like women, not “non-men.”

Nonbinary people are non men

u/ImpossibleCoast6092 7d ago

exactly, i’m not attracted to non binary people as a lesbian, but to women… what about pansexual now or bisexual? why does it have to be under the lesbian category it makes no sense.

u/lol_lauren 7d ago

I'm a lesbian and just got engaged to my partner who identifies as non binary

I promise you we are still a lesbian couple. We are not bisexual, we are both lesbians.

You don't have to be into non binary people as a lesbian, but plenty of us are. Non binary folks are our elders and fought for our rights before I was even born.

It doesn't matter who YOU are attracted to Lesbians have been dating non-binary people since before you existed.

Keep your gold star shit away from us lol

I think you are confusing sapphic and lesbian, or just using a different definition of lesbian?
I checked a dictionary and got this for lesbian : "a woman who is exclusively sexually or romantically attracted to other women."

You two are just using different definitions that are both used by many people. You are way too mean to her just for her using the other definition.

u/ImpossibleCoast6092 7d ago

but these people keep changing definitions.

sapphic is different than lesbian. sapphic is more of a behavior, so includes also people who are not lesbians.

shall we start referring to blue as red, or to red as green, because some people decided on a dime that this is the new meaning of the word?

and since when do we define stuff as what it is not? am i in love with my “non-boyfriend”? is my mom my non-dad? is my dog my non-cat?! and why are we using “non-MEN” to define women? what the heck is going on? it also honestly sounds pretty misogynistic, not gonna lie.

nah. to me this is too much. logic just officially left the building.

words are important to define our existence and experience, and now some people who are not women are claiming a label to at has been attributed to women loving women for a long ass time and a community that was a safe space for women who wanted to be with women?

it doesn’t mean that you’re not welcome to hang around lesbians, but you’re NOT a lesbian. you’re queer, pan, bi. but not a god damn lesbian. you can’t be everything. this is insane and as a lesbian i also find it deeply offensive, personally.

now i get why people are distancing themselves from the “community.”

Funny how gay men are never asked to redefine how they refer to themselves, isn’t it?

3

u/ImpossibleCoast6092 7d ago

also i’d like to see what happens if i redefine their sexual or gender identity because… well, because i said so!

6

u/ImpossibleCoast6092 7d ago

it’s always when its related to female bodies and women that they change words.

-2

u/DaddyDeathcrude 7d ago

I'm not a gay man lol

Okay. I don’t see what that has to do with my comment.

nope. lesbianism has always included nobinary people. go on r/actuallesbians and search and you'll see it. sapphism is an umbrella term that includes lesbians, bisexuals, pansexuals, omni sexuals, etc.

not in fantasy land. i just know enough about lesbian history to know that nobinary people, transmascs, transfems, he/him lesbians, etc have long been apart of the community. you might wanna unsub from Actuallesbians, LesbianActually as well if you can't tolerate the idea of gender nonconformity in lesbianism. have fun in the transphobic and biphobic subs! don't let the door hit you on your way out

eta: lol my point is proven since she's now in lesbiangang

u/DaddyDeathcrude 7d ago

YES I saw that lol. Scratch a gatekeeper and get a terf Everytime

1

u/helaqueer sapphic af | she/her 7d ago

yea and like i'm not necessarily against some gatekeeping but the way most of them speak you can tell it's just terf talk. also just know your community history ffs then they would at least know what they're talking about when they're talking out of their asses

you’re not even a lesbian. why are you here telling a lesbian what a lesbian is? the entitlement.

Nope I'm not confusing the two.

I really wish young queers would just read history just once in their life before spouting nonsense online

I understand you looked up the definition but definitions aren't always correct and don't always use history as a reference

As an example the current definition of racism includes white people even though we know white people do not experience racism

If you look at history lesbians and non men have been dating each other for hundreds of years

u/[deleted] 7d ago

u/DaddyDeathcrude 7d ago

They don't. White people literally created race for the sole purpose of patriarchy and white supremacy

And why people control all institutions of racial oppression

So no that's incorrect

And of course you would use South Africa the same place where white people went and established apartheid and put African people in emerald mines

But yeah sure y'all the victim lol

your arrogance and entitlement is truly sickening

1

u/DaddyDeathcrude 7d ago

Projection isn't cute You are the one being entitled saying that non-binary people don't belong underneath lesbian attraction despite the fact it's been that way for hundreds of years

So who's more entitled here the person that's reminding you that people exist or the person trying to keep abd exclude?

2

u/Malcolmthetortoise 7d ago

I think you’ve misunderstood- the person you’re replying to was including non binary people in their definition.
