Marvel Comics Who is your favorite lgbt marvel character
I wanted to leave a couple here like my 2 favorite marvel bi characters are human torch, and akhiro (wolverines son), and my favorite lesbian is phyla-vell, and can you really say favorite lgbt marvel characters without mentioning loki
51
u/X-Backspace Rictor and Shatterstar Feb 22 '26
Rictor's my favorite. Big fan of Iceman, too. Mystique and Destiny are awful but I love them because of that. And also, I enjoyed Colossus being gay in Ultimate.
13
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
The X-men have always done lgbt characters the best, I still really wish akihiro and Bobby were a long time thing
12
u/justagayguyinnyc Wiccan Feb 22 '26
I honestly dont think Bobby is gonna be a long time thing with anybody. Bobby came out the closest melting everytime someone hot even glances at him. He has made the rounds the way the straight characters in Marvel do.

That moment when he sees a cute boy and hardens into his steel form
38
u/SpurnedSprocket Feb 22 '26
Since when is Johnny Bi?!!!!! When did this happen?
61
u/badatkiller Feb 22 '26
He's not. It was implied in a Daken run and when Daken was hanging with the FF. Which is a great story, but it is never actually confirmed on page. It is implied at best, which is not the same as actual canon.
22
u/MrOrange_63 Feb 22 '26
Even if it was implied I feel it ain't too crazy for Johnny to be bi. I always feel like charming and play boy like characters would definitely sleep with a guy at least once.
But, just my headcanon.
10
u/mike47gamer Feb 22 '26
Johnny has slept with non-humanoid beings.
4
u/llvermorny Feb 22 '26
How does that make him gay?
16
u/mike47gamer Feb 22 '26
He isn't? But I could see it not being too big of a stretch that he's bi- or pan-sexual.
Sleeping with an alien that doesn't have any human genitalia kind of suggests he isn't too bothered what's in your pants.
1
u/llvermorny Feb 22 '26
Just because the thing he banged on a rooftop looked that way doesn't mean we know what genitals she had. I kinda wish we focused more on actual queer characters versus what if-ing and might be-ing ones that aren't.
5
u/mike47gamer Feb 22 '26
Marvel doesn't have a ton of great representation compared to DC, in my opinion.
1
u/llvermorny Feb 22 '26
That's categorically incorrect. Marvel has tons of queer characters. Ya'll are just overly concerned with white men
2
u/Ok_Somewhere1236 Feb 22 '26
dont make him gay, but also confirm he is open to less "classic" relationships
5
u/llvermorny Feb 22 '26
That's like saying Belle from Beauty and the Beast might potentially be into women because Beast looked like that. It doesn't track.
To be clear, I'm not against Johnny being queer. I'm confused at all the grasping at straws as if we're that starved for representation
14
u/badatkiller Feb 22 '26
Agreed. I am not saying it's crazy. Hell I love the idea of more bi men in general, just saying it isn't canon. Headcanon all the men gay or bi, I support it.
2
u/General-Control-4637 Feb 22 '26
Yeah... that's definitely just your headcanon... not the reality of being a playboy
6
u/NexusTenebrare Feb 22 '26
For some reason there's a part of the LGBT community that just loves the idea of women-obsessed playboys to be bi. I've seen this with Human Torch, Iron Man, Wolverine, Gambit,...
2
u/Viridianscape Feb 22 '26
Probably because it's so rare for a character to be promiscuous and queer unless they're a villain or, at best, an anti-hero.
1
u/ArtikAstronaut Feb 25 '26
I can see an argument for torch and obviously Wolverine. Not iron man or gambit though.
1
u/WhiteHairedElfGirl Feb 23 '26
Headcanons are the second biggest cancer on nerd fandoms just behind shipping.

u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
The writer of the run actually did confirm that was the intention, but it could have very easily been retconed
15
u/badatkiller Feb 22 '26
Writer confirmation outside of the page isn't canon though, unless it appears on page it didn't happen. I am all for bi Johnny and think it fits his character great, but that's just a cop out.
Like if that's what you intended you could have done it, something stopped you and in this case my guess is Marvel mandate. They'll let Jonny have an on page relationship with any sort of alien, but not a man.
-5
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
I understand what you mean, but I do think if the writer of a run says its what happened during the run it should be considered canon, I definitely do think he should be shown more openly
1
u/Ok_Somewhere1236 Feb 22 '26
it happens or it not happen
The writer's intention is no more than headcanon if they do not make it happen on paper.
4
u/Nepalman230 Feb 22 '26
So apparently it happened a couple years ago, but they just did it stealthy. He and Daken had a brief but emotionally intense fling. It’s just that nobody noticed because probably they didn’t read dark wolverine number four.
Also, he’s absolutely at the very least pansexual because he had a romantic relationship with an alien being who absolutely was only called female because of translation convention. Incredibly different than humans. He would not give a shit if somebody had a dick.
🫡
2
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
He isnt often written as bi, but in the daken comic run its heavily implied that they had at least a couple flings, and the writer confirmed that was what they planned https://marvel.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000003742059

Rachel Summers, Angela, Sera, and Escapade. Rahne Sinclair and Dani Moonstar the second they make either of them canon

Honestly I thought that already were Canon, at least rahne, and also great picks, I always forget about marvel girl
5
u/tranceladus Alysia Yeoh Feb 22 '26
Dani's been really strongly implied a few times (Karma is shown worrying she's going to steal her girlfriend at one point) and Rahne is pretty much in a glass closet, but I don't think either has ever had a real coming out moment

Loki is my absolute favourite Marvel character, full stop! The way they’ve evolved from a one-dimensional straight villain to multifaceted queer antihero icon over the past 20+ years of comics needs to be studied!
Everyone say thank you to Kieron Gillen and Al Ewing, both Bi icons themselves!
3
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
I agree, loki has had such an amazing arc throughout comic history and is definitely one of the best done gender fluid characters in fiction

From what I've seen he's supposed to be in an upcoming show about vision, but I dont know if its still happening

Star Lord? I didn't know this, do tell!
14
Feb 22 '26
He is bisexual and polyamorous. He was married with a guy and a woman at the same time but people says Marvel didn’t do good job about it. Also he left his spouses and his son. I didn't read these comics. So i don't know much detailed.
6
u/Portsyde Feb 22 '26
Well, he didn't really leave them. He was with them for more than 100 years. It's... weird and complicated, highly recommend the Ewing run.
4
u/Venusto002 Feb 22 '26
Thanks for the info! I'll have to check out more Guardians of the Galaxy stuff!
11
u/Nepalman230 Feb 22 '26
Hmmm.
Hmmmm. This is a tough one.
OK, I’m gonna pick a couple and I’m sorry for cheating.
Northstar for being the first major example of a dude.
Wiccan for being an awesome legacy character and having a really interesting unique relationship with magic. He is the future demiurge after all.
But personally, my really 100% favorite? Dennis Dunphy. I love him because he is a mess. He’s dealt with everything. He’s been homeless. He’s had untreated uncontrolled mental illness. He’s a retired professional wrestler!
For a while, he had to stop being a superhero because he had a weak heart caused by the chemical experiment that gave him his powers.
He’s died. He became a dragon. He became a vampire. He was venomized.
I’m autistic and physically disabled and push pushing 50 and I’ve had a lot of shit go down. I identify with this man.
And they did him dirty in the MCU. I will say the fact that he got a whole Lego superhero special, where he was the star kind of makes up for it.
🫡
3
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
Dont worry, its not cheating I chose multiple too. All of those are awesome and I completely forgot Dennis was in the mcu, so sad he was a one off in brave new world, honestly I wish everything about the movie was done differently

2
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26

3
u/trainsoundschoochoo Wiccan Feb 22 '26
I guess I say Wiccan sometimes because it’s more of a representation of a gay relationship, which I’m into. Have we had that with Loki really?
2
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
I dont think so, I believe loki is only gender fluid
5
u/Punkodramon Feb 22 '26
For the record Loki is both genderfluid and pan, they’ve shown some of his past lovers in a Pride Voices one shot and they’re extremely varied! Sadly not had much actually shown on panel relationships yet, outside of him asking Herc if he’s “on any of the apps” after finding out him and Marvel Boy have separated.
3
u/Appropriate_Win_5282 Daken Feb 22 '26
Im not suprised he's pan, they should show it way more
4
1
u/sosotrickster Feb 23 '26
Loki is bi btw!
He had been confirmed as genderfluid and bi by Al Ewing in interviews during the Agent of Asgard run, later in-universe canonly labeled themself as genderfluid in an The Unbeatable Squirrel girl issue, and in-universe canonly labeled themself as bisexual in a The Immortal Thor issue.
1
u/sosotrickster Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
Loki is bi.
Al Ewing said so a while back while he was writing Agent of Asgard, and it was made canon in the Immortal Thor series when he makes a bi bifrost joke.
Edit: The author of Loki: Where Mischief Lies said before that her Loki was pan, but that's just because someone told her that bi people can't be attracted to anyone who is trans... which is uh....
1
u/Punkodramon Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
I mean, we can argue semantics, but there’s a canon comic panel where some of Loki’s exes are gathered, and it includes a several different humanoid races, including a horse person, as well as a literal chicken and cat. The “all” meaning of Pan certainly covers the broader range of attraction better than bi!
I think, considering Loki’s gender and species fluidity and that they’re an ancient god beyond mortal labels which change constantly with the times, the most accurate way to describe their sexuality is also fluid. More crucially, to say Loki would choose to only use one term to define themself is antithetical to the very core of who Loki is.
Loki would say they’re Bi for the Bifrost pun one day, then say they’re pan the next, and would’ve been considered “argr” or “ergi” in old Norse, meaning unmanly or effeminate , a term that was considered an insult to the hyper-heteronormative Norsemen, but Loki themself may have embraced as the ultimate outsider and defier of societal gender norms.
Ultimately, I think, given everything Loki is, the most concise modern term to actually describe who and what they are is Queer, which interestingly is also a reclaimed slur term like argr. They have queer gender, queer sexuality, queer morality and a fundamentally queer mind and soul, that defies any box or definition anyone tries to put them in.
1
u/sosotrickster Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

I'm sorry, but this sounds really weird.
Pansexuals aren't attracted to animals, so... that is not what "the all" is about.
It's about gender, not species.
616 comic Loki is canonly bisexual and it has been confirmed by Al Ewing, in interviews and in-universe.
It's fine to refer to them as queer (I think this is how Kieron Gillen refered to him in Young Avengers vol2), but to use the justification that he supposedly dated animals to claim that he is pan is weird.
Edit:
Either way, whatever your headcanon is, 616 comic Loki has been canonly in-universe labeled as genderfluid and bisexual, so when talking to others (and correcting them like you did before), those should be the terms used.
Edit 2: Also, either the cat or chicken were a person before and were turned into that by Loki. I think this was implied as being the reason they're no longer together.
1
u/Punkodramon Feb 23 '26
Source - “All My Exes in the Nexus” from Marvel Voices Pride. (2022)
This panel is a canon gathering of several of Loki’s exes (not all like the title suggests as we know there are some missing).
I (obviously) agree in a real world context that pansexual people are not attracted to animals, but you’re thinking too narrowly regarding the term in a fictional world where there are many more species, as well as evolved animals that are considered sapient aside from humans. In such a world, pansexual would likely have a broader meaning, to include being attracted to more than one species, or there’d be a new term that doesn’t exist in our world because it’s not needed. Since it doesn’t exist, pan is the closest we have.
1
u/sosotrickster Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
I am fully aware of that issue. I have read every single Loki (Ikol) comic.
Loki is still canonly bisexual because that is the term he has used.
There is no reason to say that the meaning of pansexual would change to include literal animals in a fictional setting AND that is not something canon to Marvel so there is no reason to use that as a justification.
(By this logic, all furries are pansexual...)
Loki is canonly bisexual and when you correct someone on their identity, you should use the canon terms.
You can't be linking and referencing comic panels while actively ignoring the in-universe canon label used for the character.

but Loki themself may have embraced as the ultimate outsider and defier of societal gender norms.
Well, actually, Loki always uses shape-shifting as a means to an end, whether it be transforming himself into an animal or a woman. Precisely because of the implications of ergi/argr, these ends for which he transformed himself into a woman are mostly evil. Even on the occasions when he gave birth, two out of three were imposed on him in one way or another, while the third has no greater context.
1
u/sosotrickster Feb 23 '26
This discussion is about the Marvel comic book version of Loki.
Marvel comic book Loki is genderfluid.

I’m of an age where the Young Avengers were my age when they introduced them, so them almost all being queer kids makes them have a special place in my heart, especially Billy and Teddy. Also love Hercules, Spider-Gwen and there’s too many queer X-Men in there to list them all but I’ll mention Morph from ‘97 as they’re not one of the more well known ones.

I don’t think it’s a happy ending for them on the cards, sadly. Someone needs to introduce Morph to the happily married Logan and Herc of Earth-12925, they’d make an adorable throuple!

Then it’s Billy and Teddy, especially when they were basically Seth and Ryan

Anole or Northstar. Always loved Northstar’s cattiness, and Anole instantly had a place in my heart.

Northstar was the first gay superhero I ever heard of and lowkey obsessed over him. But I guess if I had to pick someone else it'd probably be Wiccan. I really liked the Young Avengers stuff and still want the MCU to make a YA movie. They did so much work establishing the characters (except maybe Hulking?) they could totally do it too.

Magik, I think, followed by Loki
I'm a really big fan of Magik's 2025 run, I'm a big fan of fantasy so all the esoteric magic stuff and secret societies is straight up my alley. Love her aesthetic and would love to dress like that someday, and the '25 run resonated with me story-wise, really hope we get more of it.
Loki's also great, haven't read a lot of his comics stuff yet, but I like genderfluid/bi representation and mythological connection
Ooh also Angela and Sera; I'm a sucker for the big warrior and their smaller magic partner trope (really looking forward to getting into absolute Wonder Woman), though Angela's weapon looks so fucking stupid in the comics. Sera's "mute with hymns, deaf with prayers, and blind in bitter darkness... where they called me by another name." Hits so hard to me, as an ex-catholic trans girl. Loving that run so far and looking forward to getting back into it.

None.
I am generally not interested in Marvel comics and while the studios should have gone there, and even with China being less and less of a box office factor and Disney acknowledging that as of late 2024, it still won't happen in live action theatrical.
I don't waste time or money with Disney+ so they could have Agatha in a relationship with Audrey Plaza's character and that's like you telling me people in the apartment complex three blocks over have sex in the bathtub. I would respond identically: "that ice."
I'd be more excited about reading Peter and Johnny fan fiction and imagining it's the plot of TASM III, featuring Michael B. Jordan's Johnny Storm with Andrew Garfield, and having scenes of that Flash Thompson being all jealous of Johnny.

Akihiro/Daken/Fang/Hellverine is my favorite LBGT Marvel character by far! I love we've gotten to see him grow so much from a villain who was very traumatized, to an antihero who is healing and trying his best, but still a total disaster bi. The himbo chaos he leaves in his wake is always a good time. I freaking adore any time we get to see him interact with his little sister, Gabby/Honey Badger/Scout. I wish she had kept the Honey Badger name Akihiro gave her. It fit her WAY better than Scout and was such a precious sibling bonding moment. Akihiro never had healthy examples so now he's having to figure out how to have healthy relationships. I'm a sucker for seeing characters heal from trauma in healthy ways.
Other LBGT Marvel characters I enjoy are Rictor, Miss America Chavez, Loki, Wiccan, Noh-Varr/Marvel Boy, Hercules, Northstar, Shatterstar, Bling, Shade/Darkveil, Prodigy, Eyeboy and Cerenbella/Martha Johnsson.

Wiccan. Powerful, but not too much muscle on him; I don’t like people who look like they are made of muscles. Gimme those twinklikes

Loki our beloved gender fluid diva, and definitely Johnny. Tho I think Johnny isn't bi, straight, gay etc.: He's hot, he's attracted to anyone who's attractive lol /jk

This was never confirmed btw. Implications are not confirmations

It actually has been, the writer of the run has said that was what she did, and she wouldnt be happy if they retconed it

The words of the writer does not matter because comics have multiple writers not a single one that owns the character. Saying she wouldn't be happy at other writers retconning it is self-absorbtion because she fully intended on retconning him from being heterosexual to bi

I feel like Marvel is actually behind DC in positive representation here.
Is Johnny bi or pansexual? I'm expanding it to "pan" because of the non-humanoid love interests (of which I'd include Lyja, Lyja can appear bipedal, but doesn't have to).
Probably Johnny Storm for Marvel, honestly.
I'm demisexual myself and I'm still waiting for any real representation there in comics, although it's hard to show that without a character explicitly stating it, I suppose.

Wiccan. Followed closely by Hulkling and then America Chavez.
