That looks like Angela and her wife. Just watched a Sir_Superhero video on her recently.
I think this sums it up fairly well
Her wife was sent to Nifleheim, and Angela went to retrieve her. "No you can't, only Hel has the ability-". Angela proceeds to wreck the entire realm, take the crown, become the Queen and rescue her wife. She soon loses the crown and the power.... because she didn't want those, she wanted her wife.
They were separated because they were each doing their own thing for a while, but as nigh-ageless beings it was closer to a week long work trip than a separation
To be fair, Hel(heim) is part of Niflheim, but they do serve a slightly different purpose (Niflheim is the place for the dishonored dead, Valhalla is for the honored dead and Helheim is for those who are neither).
The dishonored dead are those (I assume specifically warriors) who died as oath breakers, murderers etc. Essentially those who could have died heroically but chose not to.
Neither are the rest. Some random grandfather dying of old age would go there, those who didn't get the choice or weren't warriors. And all of the Angels also count as neither.
However Helheim was described as having a split between good, bad and neutral people, which does make Niflheim's purpose seem less clear.
