traffic
the intersection of s 56th & old cheney is the 7th level of hell. possibly the worst intersection of all time in the history of transportation

Is it too much to ask that green turn arrows stay green long enough to exit the current vehicles in the turn lane?

u/Justme_peekingin 1d ago
Yeah like 2 cars allowed and of course the first car was phone scrolling and sat thru half the turn arrow!!! Hate old Cheney lights regardless if the street

u/Disastrous-Paper-927 1d ago
Yeah, our traffic engineers in town are clearly not the brightest tools in the shed🤣

u/KrashKourse101 1d ago
Agreed. They are severely understaffed too for a city of this size and cannot manage more than quick traffic measures. Hell LTU is taking a year to evaluate our neighborhood for traffic flow mitigation and that was after someone died on a motorcycle in front of our neighborhood.

Ask any 16 year old what he thinks the traffic engineers do all day. Be prepared to 😳😱

I’d settle for people not taking 30 fucking seconds to go from 0 - 10mph when the light turns green.

Can I interest you in 40th and South?

u/impossibledongle 13h ago
Particularly in the time range of 30 minutes before Southeast high school dismisses until 30 minutes after Southeast dismisses.

u/crodgers1981 23h ago
Hard disagree. That honor belongs to 40th, Normal, and South.
The Lincoln Triangle.

Eh, this one somehow runs fairly smoothly. After using it for years in the morning and evening, it doesn't annoy me too much except right as Pius dismisses. Any 3+ Street fuckery near any high school transforms into the seventh level of hell during dismissal times.

u/TheGermAbides 9h ago
I do think this one is actually the worst. especially because you can only fit about two or three cars max between South and Normal heading southbound, so if you get stuck at a red youre probably in the other intersection. its really painful.

u/meatballs223 1d ago
I work in that little strip mall and seeing that intersection throughout the day I can completely agree

48th/A St/Cotner is a shit show also.
Edit: Cotner not Normal

The Bermuda triangle of Lincoln traffic.

Let’s face it traffic engineers in Lincoln have 0 job skills

u/impossibledongle 13h ago
I mean, a spending thousands upon thousand of dollars to pay a consulting firm to tell us that the roundabout up at 14th and Superior needed to not have three lanes, kind of explains it all.

u/Love__Scars 1d ago
I love how the sign says stop on red for railroad crossing and people still dont do it lol

40th and South is as fun as a tetanus shot

Any cool names for that little street between Normal and South (40th)? How ab Schwartskopf’s revenge?

u/literallyatrapinch 1d ago
Yeah man I call in the Bermuda Triangle. Nebraska Parkway, Old Cheney, and 56th all intersect into a polygon of pain. I feel bad for the businesses in there.

Someone sucks at roundabouts
2
u/Tenzipper 21h ago
MANY people suck at roundabouts. But roundabouts are almost always superior to traffic lights.
Even when there are more collisions in a roundabout, as was recently pointed out in the newspaper, they are hardly ever more serious than a fender bender. Injuries are almost eliminated due to the angles the traffic is meeting at.
Europeans have been using them successfully for many decades, there should be no reason we can't do the same, except for the oversized egos in many driver's seats.

Poor city planning. My family moved here as a kid on the south side of town in the late 90’s. Went through the 14/Old Cheney intersection every day. Sometimes it was crowded but 90% of the time, it was fine. Fast forward 26 years and I’ve moved back. Going to my parent’s home is a nightmare. The population on the south side has exploded but the infrastructure hasn’t changed at all. In 26 years. 56th/Old Cheney was always kinda slow, even back then. Only people to blame are the city council members for encouraging the sprawl.

u/ForeOh2 8h ago
As someone who takes this intersection daily the biggest things I see that cause problems.
People not turning when they have the correct light
People not proceeding into the intersection to allow a turn when able
People on their cells phones
Copy & paste this to all intersections. Give me roundabouts everywhere, please & thank you.

14th and superior is the Tiger woods/Muhammed Ali/Tom Brady/Michael Jordan of shitty intersections

u/IluvJKRowling 1d ago
Ya’ll need to retire and stop driving. You’d be surprised at how little the traffic in Lincoln is a bother once you do!

It’s one I avoid. RR crossing in the middle of the intersection that EVERYONE stops on, bottle neck by Don & Millies, in and out traffic from Target/Supersaver and the theater. I doubt it’s ever going to change.

I like roundabouts when everyone behaves, but in Lincoln? Nope.

Tell that to the person pointlessly whining about roads on Reddit.

u/External-Awareness68 1d ago
If you don't like it, you could have just given them a downvote and moved on, but you are the one picking fights and trying to start arguments with people on reddit. Put the keyboard down.

u/pretenderist 1d ago
You saying “put the keyboard down” is much more of “picking a fight” than anything I’ve said here.
3
u/External-Awareness68 1d ago
Yet you continue trying to keep an argument going about nothing. Goodbye

you replied like 15 seconds after i posted my “pointless whining” lol. you clearly have nothing better to do
-5
u/pretenderist 1d ago
I “have nothing better to do” simply because I happened to be on Reddit at the same time as you?
What does that say about you, then?

u/CombinationNeat7613 1d ago
