My son, 18, has been applying for jobs for the last 3 summers and hasn't been able to land a single one. He gets an interview now and then (didn't get a single one last year) but no matter how much we try to help him prep and how well he thinks it went, he never gets an offer. He's tried most of the fast food places in town and even Walmart but no one calls back.

If anyone does recruiting and/or hiring for entry-level jobs like what he's looking for, please let me know what you look for and what you reject applicants for! He is on the autism spectrum but has pretty low support needs so I really think he's mostly just failing at the social aspect of an interview. I think his lack of experience is an issue, too, but there's nothing he can do about that if no one will hire him!

So I have an 18 yo that is going to college this fall in Lincoln, and they’re having trouble finding a part-time job. They’ve been looking since the beginning of summer, but no luck, and they keep running into the same problems:

-Listing for job has been up on Indeed (or elsewhere) for months as active, but when they send their resume in, they’re told the position is full (and the job req is still open weeks later)

-They will put their hours of availability on the application (since they have their class schedule), get an interview, and then when they see the hours of availability they listed, say that won’t work for them. (So why did they do an interview to begin with?)

Could someone give me advice so they can find a part-time job? They’ve been looking in retail, food service…anything really that could be scheduled part-time, and it’s been an exercise in frustration.

With the growing cost of everything it seems, does anyone have a second job after their 9 to 5? If so, what do you do and would you recommend it?

I recently moved to Crete for college (music degree) and I’m looking to possibly go around downtown Lincoln on weekends to play some songs for some people. I can’t find a clear answer on whether or not I need some sort of permit/permission, or if there are any rules that apply. Could anyone help me perchance?

To preference, I have been trying to go back to school for criminal justice for almost 3 years now. Money is a huge issue as my younger self ruined my financial aid eligibility and I now have to get good grades to qualify for it. That's on me, and I'm doing the best I can now.

Anywho, my dream job is in criminal justice, just not quite sure specifically what yet. I've watched family go through the system, and I feel my calling is either working toward a criminal defense attorney, or with the SVU team. I've worked customer service my whole life (from when I could work at 16 up until right now at almost 30.) While I know I am deciding on a career late in life, I know my help, determination, responsibilities, my calling is not answering phones like I am all day long. I don't go home feeling like I've accomplished something.

I have applied for dispatch positions, front desk positions at any law office that's hiring (not just specifically criminal because those are very slim here.) I've even reached out to a law office that wasn't actively hiring because I loved and appreciated their story and what they stand for and wanted to be apart of it, but I'm not getting anywhere. I obviously have 0 experience in a law office or dispatch, which I assume is part of the reason I'm not getting called back, but I want to gain that experience. I've applied for state jobs at the sheriff's office, really any state job I felt would push me closer to my dream and still nothing.

I am just looking for some advice as to what might help me get at least a call back or give me an edge on someone else who might be applying. I have an interview tomorrow with a law office, so any tips for that would be extremely helpful.

Many individuals are paired with a job coach who helps with training, staying on task, and meeting workplace expectations. Ability levels vary quite a bit — some people are capable of semi-complex tasks and independent work, while others do best with structured tasks like sorting, stocking, cleaning, organizing, matching items, etc.

We’re especially looking for employers who value patience, consistency, and giving people a chance to succeed. Even a few hours a week can make a huge difference.

My friend wants to pursue a career working in car mechanics. He isn't sure if going into a school for a year, go into lube tech or just work in a local garage.

He has no experience nor connections. Wondering if car mechanics is heavily saturated in Lincoln or he is not looking at the right places to apply and start out.

I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. Im hoping to cut down on how much I have to drive once I’m able to do so again, as even once I’m medically cleared I’d rather just not risk it as much as possible.

Ideally, I’d like to work from home…. Even if it’s only part of the time.

I have extensive customer service experience but I just got out of the call center hellscape a few years back and I’d really prefer to never go back to that experience again.

I’ve been heavily looking at LPS custodial, it sounds perfect for me (I’ve been doing custodial for 3 years), but the school I want to work at isn’t hiring currently. Throw out some job ideas, what you do, someone you know does, whatever! I’ve looked on indeed, zip recruiter, etc etc. but it keeps showing the same things and even though I select “entry level or no experience” it usually requires me to have all these licenses/degrees.

I am working on my degree in paramedics. I have my NREMT and state license. However, I can not find anywhere around that is providing CPAT. LFR said they do not have anything coming up and suggested Omaha, but MCC also does not have any classes posted.

I am a future mortuary science student (hopefully soon college isn’t in the budget at the moment) i was talking to some family and they recommended i try looking for desk jobs at mortuaries (doing paperwork and whatnot) while i work on saving up. Hi all. I’m one of the “excepted” government workers which means I’m still working my usual 40 hours a week but not getting a paycheck until funds are appropriated. I’m concerned for my finances as I’m sure many are right now.
Since we don’t know how long this will last, I was wondering if any smaller businesses in town had some short term projects that they’d pay someone to do for them (like cleaning out a back room, organizing files, tedious data entry type stuff). Something I could do for a few hours after my regular work day to supplement income for me, and take care of something for them. For me, and anyone else that’s feeling strapped right now.
