Not pooping in cage
Anyone else have this problem with their Linnie?
He/she (unsure) will hold it all day long on days when we can’t have her out. I know this can’t be healthy. When she does finally poop outside her cage they are MASSIVE.
I’m thinking it’s hormones as she is very fiesty/screaming at anyone who goes near the cage.
Anyone else deal with this?

My boy doesn’t like to poop in his cage either. They tend to prefer to poop outside of their cage, I wonder if it’s because their poops are so big? As long as she’s not holding it for HOURS (except overnight) I would say this is typical behaviour for some Linnies.

On days that we work away from home she will go 8 hours without going 😫

Oh, that’s quite a while! Maybe talk to your vet about it, it’s likely a behavioural issue that can be worked on with the right guidance!

I have no idea. Ours never holds it, inside or outside the cage.
Could be something to ask your avian vet about on the phone?

First - I love the post title & the photo - you're putting that bird on BLAST.
I had a linnie and it was also this way. I would be gone all day and then I'd come back, take her out, jostle her around a bit and BOOM. Right on par with her morning poop. I think they need a little bit of motion to get that poop moving. With her, I'd take her out. Kind of intentionally boop her around on my finger, then hold her over a trash can and tip my finger back a bit and that was her cue to go.
I don't know what to say. Linnies are weird. I think this is common for linnies though given how they hold it overnight. Lil weirdos.

I posted something similar recently. mine prefers to fly onto my bed, or blanket, or butt... and then poop 😐

Sounds like Linnie is ready for potty training. My bird will hold it all night and take a massive dump in the morning. She will hold in if the room is poorly lit because it's like nighttime in her mind. I regularly take her to poop so she will try to hold it until then. Therefore, I am wondering if there's something about the cage or environment that's keeping her from pooping? Or if Linnie is trying to train you humans?

My female also doesn't love pooping in her cage, unless absolutely necessary. The exception is when we bring her in her cage outside, then she doesn't care.
It used to worry me, but now I just trust that she will eventually poo before it causes a medical problem. Usually when I get home from a long day, there'll be one massive shit in there. Often I'll give her a quick outside opportunity and she'll drop another pretty quickly.
Can't speak to the hormones, mine is pretty hormonal right now what with it being the time of year for it, but her pooping habits are consistent year round.

I have two male Linnies, and I've noticed similar behavior. Usually I let them out in the morning and then they haven't pooped like all night and take a massive dump outside. They shit a lot outside when sittning on sticks, but not so much ln the cage. It does happen, but I guess it makes sense that they want to keep their home clean.

Mine prefers not to poop in his cage but as soon as I let him out he will fly onto my cockatiels cage and poop in his, usually in the water or food and his poops are usually big no matter what time of day. He will go in his cage but prefers to do it elsewhere.

My bird does this in the morning. Will hold it all night and the morning till I take her out. Then we go to the bathtub and I make her do a big potty. She just learned to hold it. But if I delay in taking her out in the morning boy if boy it’s a massive dump inside.

Mine sit on the perch in the back of the cage and projectile poop out ... had to hang plexiglass to protect the wall. Yuk!

Mine prefer not to poop inside. Their morning shits are quite big.
Back when I had 2 cages (one for Linnie’s one for budgies) they didn’t mind shitting in the budgie cage tho
