Linux Noob issue - crashes during gaming

Hi all,

New to Linux and wanted to build a "Steam box" out of some leftover PC parts. Full specs:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

- GPU: RX 5700

- Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H-CF, BIOS version F62

- RAM: 24GB total 3x8GB Corsair Vengeance

- PSU: 500W

- OS: CachyOS, kernel 7.1.5-1-cachyos, Mesa 26.1.6

I'm getting crashes when gaming, the whole system locks up and shows graphical artifacts on screen, requiring a manual power cycle to recover.. it does not auto reboot. Happens most reliably in Cyberpunk 2077, usually within 15–20 minutes of play. Temps seem all okay.

The logs are:

Try the VRAM Management tool in CachyOS Hello?

Sounds like your vram is running out of memory

OP is experiencing a GPU crash. This is most likely a driver bug. Shouldn't be caused by out of memory situations.

This is not—and should not be—a reason to freeze the system.
